Style | ABV
Maibock / Helles Bock |  8.00% ABV

Availability: Year-round. bottle (249), on-tap (68), growler (8)

Notes:
Andygator, a creature of the swamp, is a unique high-gravity brew made with pale malt, German lager yeast, and German Perle hops. Unlike other high-gravity brews, Andygator is fermented to a dry finish with a slightly sweet flavor and subtle fruit aroma. Reaching an alcohol strength of 8% by volume, it is a Helles Dopplebock.

had this from a 22-oz bottle...first time having this bier.

A: Pours a nice golden yellow that is a tad cloudy. Looks like an IPA. Nice fothy head that dissipates after a few minutes and leaves minimal lacing. A good looking bier.
S: Mild sweetness hits the nose immediately. Nothing pungent and no acid odor.
T: Sweetness that almost reminds one white chocolate...mild hops and mod malt leaves a full bodied taste that is actually really good.
M: Rich taste, rich feel...
D: Due to the higher alcohol content, I could easily have 3-4 of these at a time...it is easy going down and smooth.

Overall, I really enjoyed this bier and do recommend this to anyone. The helles doppel is a different style for me, but one I will go back to without complaint. Have one for me. Prosit!

This was a 22oz bomber from Evergreen Liquors ($4.99).

Look: Had a light golden color - bordering on straw colored. Very clear with good carbonation. The head was a thin coating of foam that managed to stick around the entire time. Lacing was minimal.

Smell: Super sweet nose with some skunk and grainy cracker. Similar to a malt liquor.

Taste: First off was a nice rich malty sweetness that moved into an alcohol burn followed by some cracker and biscuit. The middle was a bitter note that faded into some grainy sweetness. Some grassy hops were noticeable. Mount feel was very thin, again – like a malt liquor.

This was certainly a smooth brew with a very thin consistency. It was rather light on the palate and had slightly more character than a high gravity malt liquor like St. Ides or a Steel Reserve.

LOOK: Clear golden color, but lifeless, fizzy white collar dips out quickly.

SMELL: Grain, yeast, buttery toffee, dough.

TASTE: Sweet cereal grains, table sugar, light hops. Faint grapefruit and herb notes with some biscuit and crust. No real alcohol flavor, besides a small estery fruitiness. Malt and rice are detectable. Basic strong lager.

FEEL: Medium bodied, well carbonated. Opens up almost dry but midway through the bottle that notion is lost.

OVERALL: Ok brew. A bit sweet, could find many better examples of the style. With a few tweaks, not too far off from being a contender in the imperial helles category. As it is, more like a clean malt liquor.

Poured into a glass from a bottle.

A - Pours a light straw yellow, forming a 1/2 inch head with light lace on the glass. Looks like a macro lager.

S - A bit grassy and grainy aroma. Also smells a bit like a macro lager.

T - Light malty flavor, buscuity, with the hops creating a grassy finish. Very simple flavor but full.

M - Medium bodied, high carbonation and suprisingly smooth.

O - For a very unique style, a Helles Dopplebocks, I think this fits the name. Just like a Helles on steroids. Highly drinkable.
