Small bar in the back streets of down town florence. Super friendly folk who are passionate about beer. Their english was better than my italian, though we did a lot of motions to talk about the beers, but the passion was there let me tell you! Love the seats and barrels outside, felt like home in the backyard in that way. A dozen taps and a couple casks, no macro crap which was a rarity in florence. Would come back when in town again

King Grizzly is small but comfortable with a kind of English pub meets German lodge feel. The bar is wood, the floor is wood, the stools are wood, and the back bar is wood. If that's not enough wood for you they've used some old barrels as tables. There are 11 taps, 2 casks, and an assortment of bottles to choose from. There's no food. I really enjoyed my time at King Grizzly and I plan to get back at some point.

On a recent trip to Italy with my wife and another couple, I wandered into this place and immediately knew that the hype about the growing craft beer scene in Italy was true.

This place is in a very tiny, hard to find little square called Piazza De Cimatori, which is located between the Ponte Vecchio and the Piazza del Duomo. It is not far from the Duomo, so if you are visiting that gigantic church (a must see by the way) then you are about a 3 minute walk from this place. It is basically at the intersection of a few alleyways. Don't look for a sign in front of this business, there isn't one.

The bar itself is nice, with good woodwork and a cozy atmosphere. Because of the shape of the building, there are doorways in three of the barroom walls that lead directly outside, and in warm weather they leave these open creating an open air feeling.

This is a beer bar, not a brewery, but I would say 80% of their taps were pouring beer from a nearby brewery in Tuscany called Free Lions. Their beers were solidly good to very good. They also had taps from a few other places in Europe...even a very nice kriek beer from Belgium.

The prices were average and fair for the area - 5 euros per beer. The service was good, but could get a bit slow at times because there is only one employee on duty and they stay behind the bar.

If you are in Florence, and have the time, this is a must visit place.
