Like the Saxons themselves, this beer has suffered from misunderstanding and prejudice. And if Saxony can produce the likes of Bach, Wagner, Neitzsche and Luther then it stands to reason that they shouldn't have much trouble making a quality pilsner. And they don't because this is it. The first German brewery to exlusively make pilsners, Radeberger continues to make pure unchanged archetypical pilsner to this day. I've had it numerous times over the past twenty years and I remain struck by its consistentcy.
Foamy from the first pour there is no need to give the beer any force as the head, supported by a cornucopia of fine beading everywhere, gives nothing less than a 2 inch head throughout every sip. Not exactly sparkling in its pale straw yellow colour and the nose hides the drinker from what awaits them but...
Some slight bitter fizziness to start followed immediately by a firm medium solid body where the malt supports and allows the hops to dominate giving it a long involving chewy lingering bitterness. This firmness is especially noticable in the middle and although its intensity diminishes by the time you swallow it is persistent and builds with every drink. There's no doubt in my mind that this is one of Germany's finest pilsners.
Too bad so many here just don't get it. I'd like to believe it has something to do with the condition and age of bottles once people in the US finally get this beer but to be honest its probably because most BAers can't tell the difference between a quality pilsner and a quart of Olde English 800.
Watch out. This is a werewolf in sheep's clothing.

Crystal clear golden color with bright white head that recedes to a thin lace quickly. Sweet grainy breads and herbal hops on the nose.
Very nice, no astringency or off putting skunk flavors I normally find in the style. On the heavier side of being light bodied, creamy carbonation. Initial bready sweetness. Sweetness through off by nice brisk carbonated bite and a spicy and earthy hop character. Bitterness is moderate and the beer is more balanced then anything. Flavorful and very drinkable.

S: Nice mild aroma with hoppy hint.
T: Light with a grainy sweetness and a hoppy bite.
M: Above average, nothing to brag about.
O: This is one of my favorites, can drink it everytime; seems to be the beer of choice for "Two and a half men" (meaningless fact)

Radeberger is one of my favorites in the German Pils category. Having originally tasted it while traveling overseas in 2003, I am glad it has hit American shores. I can't believe I am just now reviewing it...
Radeberger pours a brilliant, crystal clear gold, with plenty of carbonation. A pure while head rests on top. While big and billowy at first, it quickly descends and leaves just a 1/8" covering. We do see some nice lacing, though.
The aroma is soft and floral, consisting of juicy pears, white pepper, and sugary malts.
Upon tasting, I am also picking up apple, and a very slight herbal hint, (perhaps rosemary). 'Bready' is a very apt descriptor here, and the hopds are almost lemony. The mouth feel is light and crisp. Overall, very refreshing and refined!
