I made a day trip to Boulder and went to Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery for lunch. Arrived there shortly after they opened around 11:30 AM after walking up and down Pearl Street, checking out all of the different stores and finding myself in complete awe of the magnificent beauty of the Rocky Mountains that serve as a backdrop.
There is a good amount of seating and the brewery tanks can be found in the back. The service here was outgoing, friendly, helpful, resourceful and very attentive. Staff here appear to "pitch in" in all facets of serving and food preparation, which is a rather unique approach. It clearly works and is quite effective. Things started to get really busy as we were leaving.
The vibe and atmosphere here is laid back, as is most of Boulder. They have some board games like Trivial Pursuit, Connect Four, Scrabble, etc. to help pass the time.
The beers are awesome and super fresh. I started out with a Java Stout that was tasty. There was about 15 or so draft options that include F.Y.I.P.A., Annapurna Amber, Colorado Kind Ale, Java Porter, XXX Pale Ale, Blackberry Ale, Quinn's Golden Ale, Illusion Dwellar IPA, Lil Williy, Smoke Screen Porter, Old School Irish Dry Stout, Cleveland Brown, Swan Song and Old Skippy. There are also three "guest handles" too like Avery Maharaja.
Food was really good. I started with the Spinach Soup and got the Spicy Pollo Asada Burrito with green chili. All of the food I sampled was flavorful.
You have the option to order beers in either 8 oz, 16 oz and 48 oz. I always like to see this at a brewery.
What else is there to say about this place? I really enjoyed my visit here. Definitely recommended if you are in Boulder.

Pretty much a restaurant with a small bar in back if you want to order a beer while you wait for a table. Went during dinner, big mistake, long wait, long enough that I sampled two beers (porter and a pale ale which were both forgettable) while waiting and ended up leaving. It was just a table for 2 which shouldn't have taken so long. Let's also add that I tried to go for lunch the day before but they were closed for a company party. Just a poor experience overall and I was quite excited to visit because of the quality reviews and the fresh food that was advertised on the menu.

As first timers to the area, we weren't quite sure where to go for a good brew and some good grub. Someone we met on a hike mentioned we should stop here. It did not disappoint. Good beer and good food. Their porter was surprisingly refreshing, and just what we needed after a long hike. Will definitely make a return trip.

I regularly hang here. Great beer, good food, and amazing service, never pretentious and always let you sample beers. If you are visiting Boulder this place is a must! If you live here you already know this place. I also love Southern Sun and Under the Sun. Ask about the Karma Envelope...

Hmm, a hippie place in Boulder? Go figure. I stopped and did a flight and all were decent with the IPAs being the stars of the show. Place had a laid back atmosphere and service was good, selection decent. Consider the broad range of beers listed I might have to stop again and if you're in Boulder it probably doesn't hurt to stop.

Went on a recent trip to CO. Went to Avery before and some people suggested this place for dinner. Place was busy on a Tuesday but got seated after about 10 min wait. They had app 20 diff. drafts all brewed in house. I got an American stout and a very good burger for about 13 bucks. Best part was the service. About every 5-10 min our server brought over a free taster of a different beer. Great experience and vibe. Would love this place in my Hometown.

Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery was a great spot to meet up with friends and grab a cold draft. I visited during Stout Month and was able to taste most of the stouts on draft. The beer prices are comprable to other places and the staff is friendly. I would recommend.

Tried this brewery/restaurant on a friend's recommendation from his last visit to Boulder. The place is small and the tables are packed a little tight. The place seemed to be very popular because even on a Sunday night it was packed. We were the last groups to get a table without a wait. The beer selection is decent, but not huge. The beers themselves were not bad. The food was good, but nothing that would blow you away. Our server was pleasant but a little slow. May have been due to how busy the place was that night. Overall a decent experience at reasonable prices. Not sure if I would go back, more because there are so many places to try in Boulder than that that I did not like the place.

Visited on 10/10/12. GABF Week.
We had stopped in Mountain Sun to meet up with friends for lunch before we started brewery hopping.
A: The place has really laid back vibe, great homey mellow feel to it. Its a lot more brewpub than brewery as the bar area only had 5 stools but many tables for food/beer patrons.
Q: The quality of the beers were decent, no one had any complaints and while some beers were good,, most that the group tried were acceptable.
S: We had gotten there right before noon and the place was easily 3/4 full but our servers were very friendly, prompt, and knowledgable about the beers.
S: Selection was very good, had almost 20 taps of in house beers that offered a wide selection. It was pretty impressive especially after seeing their small brewing system. Also offered other selections from local CO breweries too.
F: Food was really good, nobody had any complaints at all. Had a burrito which was not only made with fresh flavors but worth the 8 dollars they were charging.
V: Half Pints/Pints/Flights were all reasonably priced as was the food too.
Overall, this is a place that does well with the locals and I can see why after having visited. Definitely a stop worth making when in the Boulder area.

love this place. always crowded and chaoticly buzzing. not at all relaxing, but a nice spot for a meal and a few brews. huge rotating selection of beers for such a small place, and they are all pretty darn good. service makes this place, smoe of the happiest staff of all time, happy to take time detailing the beers and the food menu. we even got plenty of free beer samples without asking. neat crowd too, always someone keen to chat about anything in there. looks like a pretty small operation, you can see the kettles from the back near the restrooms. they do a really excellent business.
