A: Kind of ugly caramel brown color body with 1 finger head. Lots of lacing.
S: Wow. Nice. Tropical fruits, orange, sweet malt. Not much rye tone noted.
T: Very well balanced. I get the spice from rye towards the mid-end. Tropical fruits, tangerine, citrus, grapefruit, a bit of piney bitterness towards the end. A tad bit of alcohol notes.
M: Very smooth. Alcohol heat can be noted but not overpowering.
O: This one was a surprise, didn't know what i was getting into. Quite nice brew from a new local brewery (for me anyways).

From 22 oz bottle via Letspour.
Poured in a medium Duvel tulip glass.
Pours copper with small head and significant lace.
Aroma of grassy hops, sweet malts and floral hops.
Moderate carbonation and mouthfeel.
Flavors of grassy hops, white unsweetened grapefruit juice, cream of tartar, robust malts, rye. Overall quite flavorful, lots of malt body, significant bitterness but good malts to balance this fine brew. An interesting dry and sweet finish...tasty.

Thanks to ijaap for this bottle in a NOOBs BIF.
Poured from a 22oz bottle into a Fremont Brewing Snifter
A: Murky copper, dark orange color with an initially thick eggshell white head that quickly dissipates (no surprise with it being over 8%).
S: A lot of grapefruit, orange, tangerine notes. Lots of citrus coming through with some dankness. Also getting a bit of malty biscuit aroma
T: Lots of bitterness, citrus flavor. Oranges and pine. Mild spice from the rye
M: Well carbonated with a dry finish. A tiny bit of alcohol burn at the end of the sips.
O: Very drinkable DIPA. Lots of citrus notes (assuming some Citra hops used) and balanced enough where the hops aren't over powering this beer. I would definitely have this one again

A - Pours a hazy very dark orange-brown with floaters. A one inch off-white head with good retention and lots of lacing forms.
S - Hop pine and fruity. Sweet malt with some orange citrus.
T - Bitter pine, orange peel. Odd finish.
D - Good carbonation with a medium body.
O - Lots of bitter hops and lots of malts. Odd finish and bitter throughout.

Pours a medium golden amber with a one finger, bright white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of orange citrus, light citrus hops and faint rye. Very interesting flavor of bready malt, orange and other citrus, other undefinable, but pleasant fruit juice, citrus hops and rye spiciness. Finishes with nice citrus, lightly pine hop bitterness. Medium bodied with light creaminess. The aroma and initial taste were slightly dissipointing because of the lack of intense hop flavors up front, but the excellent complexity, off-beat fruit flavors and rye combined into a delicious pale ale. This is unusual and very pleasurable to drink. The second of their first batch of bottled beers I've tried and they live up to the hype they have generated locally. Glad they started with a batch of rye beers as this style is uncommon and welcome.

I had this beer on-tap at WABL Belgianfest 2013 in a snifter taster glass.
Appearance: light amber hue with a large amount of haze and a pretty sizable ivory head and a good level of retention. Impressive considering the context! I like it.
Smell: very fruity, alcoholey, busy, spicy, peary, appley, tangeriney aroma. It's a great mélange of hop, yeast and rye contributions. Messy and busy, but alluring nonetheless.
Taste: flavor is similar to the aroma, but much more rye-centric. There's quite a bit of spiciness to the flavor, along with a bizarre strawberry-like character that I have noticed in a lot of rye beers. Quite good.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and creaminess. I like it.
Overall: tasty and unusual, and I tend to really like unusual and novel beers. I would definitely like to try this beer again; it's worth having if you come across it.

Had on tap at Reuben's. Review from notes.
A: Pours a hazy golden/orange with a small white head that lasts for a long time. Nice lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Lots of citrus, some orange, tangerine, and a bit of orange peel, it really smacks you in the face. A little bit of spicy rye.
T: Again, tons of citrus, rather intense. Mostly orange, with some tangerine, orange peel and zest, and a little grapefruit. There is a nice spicy rye component and some pepper that balance nicely with the fruity hops.
M: Medium-full bodied for style with moderate carbonation. Slight hint of alcohol, but drinks rather nicely.
O: A very nice DIPA, would happily drink this one again.

on-tap, at the brewery
I've enjoyed this ale a number of times on past visits to Reuben's - a nice glowing orange body with a nice white froth. Bitter, citrus peel, candied orange. The rye provides nice spice, additional bitterness, and a nice compliment to the grapefruit-y hops. Dig this stuff - glad the source is only a few blocks from my bed.

A: Poured a burnt orangish color with a small white cap, decent head retention leaving some faint white lacing
S: Tangerines, rye bread, orange peel really shine here. There is a little booze sting on the nostrils. This smells promising.
T: Promising. Initial rye punch to the taste buds, boo ya! Orange peel and tangerines come into the picture and really provide a nice bitterness balanced with a little bit rye pepperness. The finish has a pronounced booze sting, dry, lingering bitterness and loads of IBUs!
M: Definitely a fuller bodied IIPA. Just the way I like it. Bitter, loads of promising citrus and rye really crash the taste buds. Party in my mouth.
O: A very fine Imperial Rye IPA! I would highly reommend this for any hophead or rye beer nutjob.
