Presentation: Green 1 pint .9 fl. oz. Old fashioned medicine style bottle with a quick blurb about the beer on the back label as well as a “best before” date.

Appearance: Nearly black in colour, more of a extremely dark brown, and still holding some ruby highlights. Pours rich creamy tan lace that leaves trail of web like stickiness.

Smell: Dark unsweetened chocolate or carob, light musty buttery yeast nose, lemony twang from the hops and some charcoal tie things up in the aroma.

Taste: Strong medium body, sturdy smoothness and a dryish mouth feel. Carbonation is mild and very appropriate. In your face coffee and carob flavour with a small and quick yet rounded sweetness. Hop bitterness flares in to a happy medium to bring a perfect balance. Earthy dry. Musty buttery yeast hits middle to end to add a lustful character to this ale, touch of astringentcy towards the end from the roasted malts to stop with a dry finish.

Notes: Old style porter to say the least, A blend of old and new beer. A very well structured beer with lots of flavour going on … a sharp cheddar and whole grain crackers pairs extremely well with this one.

Poured into a perfect pint.

3.5 A: Clear dark amber brown color. Just over one finger of frothy/creamy beige head. Retention is a touch below average, but a decent sized ring of lacing is left.

4.0 S: Roasted barley with toastiness and a heavy graininess. Under that there's a doughy neutral sweetness. Dry with chocolate and caramel. Mineral with hints of coffee.

4.25 T: Taste is like the nose, but a little less dry, which makes for good balance overall. Roasty toasty malts, big graininess and doughiness. Chocolate, caramel, neutral malt chewiness. Mineral, coffee, and biscuit.

4.25 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Chewy without being sweet. Pleasantly creamy.

4.0 D: Another winner from this brewery. A very good option if you are in the mood for something English.

Pours a clear dark reddish brown with a frothy cream colored head that slowly dissipates to lots of sticky lace. The aroma is a bit vinous with some dark fruity aromas. Burnt sugars, light chocolate and coffee playing supporting roles. The flavor is a touch lactic with vinous and dark pitted fruits melding into toffee, caramel, and a hint of smoke. Medium to thin body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet burnt mouthfeel. Interesting beer. This is not really what I think of when I think porter, but it was good enough to keep me interested through the glass.

Poured from a 16.9 oz bottle.

A: The pour was a smooth pour with hardly any head to it. Dark color that cast a dark amber hue in the light. Small bubbles produced a great lacing down the side of the glass.

S: Smell starts with a sweet mineral smell that lingers in the nostrils. Deep and dark aromas that leave a deep sense of a rich butterscotch.

T & M: Taste reminds me of a rich butterscotch pudding that lingers on the palate. A slight brown sugar taste finishes out the profile and leaves a warm sense to the mouth a and throat.

O: I have always been a fan of a good English porter and was definitely was not disappointed by this beer.

St. Peter’s Old Style Porter has a thick, beige, spongy head, thin lacing left behind, and a clear, reddish-brown appearance. The aroma is of medium-roasted, sweet, tannic barley malt, and the flavor is of the same, with some chocolate notes and an underlying and pleasant bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium, slick, and smooth, and St. Peters’s Old Style Porter finishes semi-dry, refreshing, and highly drinkable. Overall, this is excellent.
