Poured heavy handed to get a head and did so lovely sudsy big bubbled thick head with cola brown body.

Really lovely aroma, brewers mash and vimto.

The taste is a real treat big roast flavours hints of coffee but without the bitterness hints of fruits also a real treat for the togue.

Good mouthfeel not at all thin perfect low key carbonation.

Right up there, reet good!

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Feb 2012. Comes in an interesting oval bottle that is unique to St. Peter's - I love it.

Poured into a Guinness pint glass. A dark brown hue - although a deep ruby is revealed when held to the light. Carbonation level appears to be low. Yields a thick, creamy head of light-brown foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding. Aroma is quite subtle; sweet dark malt with notes of chocolate and vanilla accompanied by faint hints of roasted grain (this improves as it warms).

Tastes of slightly sweet dark malt with considerable bitterness. Notes of roasted malt and coffee dominate, with hints of chocolate and vanilla in the background. Hops add bitterness to the finish, along with the roasted malt. No hoppy aroma is discernible. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, but rather thin and watery. Aftertaste of bitter roasted malt.

Tasty, but more bitter than I expected. I admit not having a great deal of experience with this style, but I anticipated a sweeter, maltier character with a less pronounced bitterness. The body is also a bit insubstantial. Overall, pretty good and flavoursome for a low ABV ale. Worth trying...

Poured a murky dark brown that showed ruby highlights when held to the light. A nice moderately dense head that lasted quite a while.
S- Roasted nuts, cocoa, toffee and roasted grains
T -Dry Cocoa nibs, bitter coffee, tobacco, and roasted grains
M -Med bodied, smooth, soft on the tongue well carbonated with small bubbles. Very clean dry aftertaste
Overall, a good beer, better on cask. Went very well with my Thai green curry

My first Mild ever to my awareness and my impression is that of a mild Stout with little hop bitterness and some bitter dark chocolate malt. The appearance is beautiful chestnut with a dark ruby tinge against the light.

The taste is good malty with dark chocolate but the smell is too faint and the mouthfeel is too thin and flat to be really that enticing...

Will not actively seek this one out again

Newly issued in the bottled version (I believe), this beer also comes in the hallmark flask-shape green bottle of St. Peter's; BB 16/04/2010, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass.

A: pours a deep dark mahogany hue with fairly good clarity, added with decent streams of fizziness and a light beige
S: chocolate malts, lightly roasted nuts, melted black sugar, licorice, and a touch of sour-sweetness as of dried Chinese longan-fruits and dried dates all spring to mind - all pleasant in a rather "neat" manner; hops are indeed suppressed, but the main theme of dark malts does get an extra touch of complexity from the lightly sour edge of dark fruits. Decent.
T: a light-bodied foretaste of chocolatey dark malts with a mild edge of black sugar is closely followed by lovely herbal bitterness and chewy-bitter nuts that linger with a wee bit of sourness from maybe roast barleys/malts, in line with the kind of sour-bitterness rendered by roasted/burned barley as in an Irish Dry Stout... The palate turns semi-dry and increasingly bitter in the end, as a vivid witness to both roast malts and earthy hops and just about right to provoke more thirst (more in the "Bitter way")...
M&D: semi-fluffy on the texture due to the light yet constant carbonation, light-bodied, but full of flavour for a Dark Mild, while the texture never for a second falls thin, which is quite unusual for a light drink as a Mild. I guess the secret lies in the roast malts as well as an actually good amount of hops used in the brew, which balances off the sweetness overall but never at the cost of the overall weight/body. For a Dark Mild, this one certainly is much less a (more traditional?) semi-sweet example than a modern interpretation that adds more bitterness to the performance, which I certainly welcome whole-heartedly!

Cask conditioned at the Great British Beer Festival (GBBF) 2008. Black coloured beer, dark brown in the highlights, low head. Moderately roasty aroma with some winey notes. The flavour is smooth and moderately roasty, with a moderate bitterness in the finish. Easy drinking, a quite nice mild this one.

Jerusalem Tavern in London...

A: Rich red-brown body with a sizable tax head...

S: Chocolate and malts.. some other fruit like aromas come through

T: Lovely chocolate/malt blend that is rich yet smooth

M: Velvety. Nice from the cask.

D: Can put a few of these back before getting bored.

On cask at the John Hewitt Bar, Belfast

Pours with a dark chocolatly body, some ruby highlights when held up to light. Thick light tan head with great retention, thick patchy lacing up and down the glass

Smell, thick chocolate roasted malts, a little bit of vanilla, some burnt sugar and toffee. Few notes of dried fruit, prunes and figs.

Taste, roasted malt, thick drinking chocolate, cloying vanilla and chocolate. Malty finish, smooth creamy cask mouthfeel

A fantastic mild, so drinkable its unbelievable.
