From the brewery: Battlefield Bock is a smooth and creamy Bavarian Style Bock Lager. It is brewed with our proprietary blend of Bavarian Dark Roasted Malts giving it a distinct taste with hints of coffee and chocolate. We add Noble Czech Saaz Hops to balance the flavor of this rich full bodied lager. Battlefield Bock is slow cold aged for a minimum of 8 weeks.

on-tap at the brewery

Appearance is a very dark brown with a beige head,. Smell is lightly roasted malts and that unmistakeable lager smell. Roasted malt comes out again in the taste with the lager following up and finishing with some bitterness. A hint of alcohol as it warms. Mouthfeel is medium-heavy a bit creamy, and dry.

An obvious graduation of the brewery's other beers: darker, heavier weight, more flavorful... Not a bad bock at all but also not the best.

Poured from a 12oz can into a Willi Becher glass

The beer pours a dark brown color with a moderate amount of off-white head that quickly recedes, leaving behind very little to no lacing.

The aroma is sweet and bready, with notes of caramel, chocolate, and nice underlying spicy and roasty notes.

Like the aroma, the flavor is bready and sweet with notes of caramel, and chocolate. the spiciness is a bit more prevalent than in the nose, and the roastyness is nearly lost in the sweetness, Medium bodied and moderately carbonated.

Overall this is a good beer that I look forward to trying again

Drinking this at The Red Oak Brewery.
On tap poured into a pint glass.
Appears dark brown, nice head and lacing.
Smells spicy and sweet, definitely chocolatey.
Taste follows the nose nicely, malty upfront.
Mouth feel is medium for the style.
Overall a very good Bock that I would definitely order again.

Enjoyed an evening with this brew a few years back at a bar in Winston Salem. I cannot remember the name, but I see the place clearly. Sucks to get old. I'm partial to Red Oak products as they are local to the Triad and I've been downing them for well in excess of two decades. Looks like chocolate, tastes like chocolate, smells like chocolate and satisfies like chocolate.
