A Slightly cloudy amber color. Nice creamy light tan head
S Malty with fruity sweetness
T Malty up front little hop bitterness following with a subtle malty fruity aftertaste. Very delicious!
M/F Rich, finely carbonated. It is a very smooth beer.
D - This is a great drinking brew. I am so happy that I came across it. Will definitely seek out again.

Half litre measure in a Krug at Kachelofen in Bamberg

A - Hard to denote colour but looked to have excellent clarity. Average head retention and lacing.

S - Biscuit malt, faint pepper, vanilla,lemon zest and floral hop all noted.

T - Malty biscuit note throughout. Slight hop bite comes through in the classic keller semi dry finish.

M - Low carbonation, medium mouthfeel

T - Tasty and refreshing. Was excellent with my schweinhaxe, cut through the fatiness of the meat superbly.

Half litre bottle, dark amber colour, clear, medium tanned head. Very nice hoppy aroma, detected what smelled a bit like Styrian, Golding or Fuggles. Tasted hoppy and spicy, had a nice balance, really reminded me of an IPA. Not much carbonation, smooth mouthfull, slightly thick body. Even if its not an IPA, it seems to have the characteristics of one. Top beer.

St. Georgeenbrau's keller bier was my first foray into the zwickel/keller style, and the first time I enjoyed it, it was very fresh (at least from the distributor). It's since largely disappeared from the shelves in the Chicagoland shops I typically visit, until I found a huge cache of them in Peoria, though they looked quite old. The beer was a bit as I remembered it, but a bit muted due to age. There's a great yeast, bread, malt, and hop interplay here, at least from the German perspective. If you are open to that, and find a non-old looking bottle of this, I suggest you try it right away.

Pours a 2cm head of fairly clean white color, made up of large and medium-sized bubbles, which has fairly poor retention, dissipating in just a minute or so to a thin cap atop the glass. Leaves little lacing, mostly just scattered spots around the perimeter of the glass. Body is a cloudy copper orange color, with minute levels of carbonation rising from the sides of the glass.

Aroma is of pale and lightly toasted malts contributing a sweet and bread-like scent. Inhaling more deeply brings in some fruit-like esters and a bit of herbal hop character to the beer. Pleasant, but underwhelming (again, maybe due to age, but without a bottled on date I have no idea).

Opens on the tongue with a yeast-meets-minerals-meets-bread concoction that is surprisingly satisfying. Front of palate continues the initial flavors, but ups the bread and sweetness a bit. Mid-palate is full of bread-like maltiness, with hints of caramel and slightly spicy hops. Back of palate brings on subtle bitterness to temper residual sweetness and bread-like flavors. Leaves a lingering bitterness with slightly iron-rich malts in closing.

Beer is medium bodied with fairly low carbonation, yielding a mouthfeel that is very smooth and flowing, making this quite an easy sipping beer. Closes dry with a slight bit of stickiness from residual sugars.

A: Pours clear warm copper with a rather large off-white kind of airy head that sets into pretty nice lacings.

S: Dark rich malt with a bready backbone. Rather modest grassyness. Hoppy, but mild.

T: Zesty, with quite nice balanced hops, mainly bitter. Malt is obvious, sweet and bready. Very nice.

M: Kind of metallic feel, not bad though. Bitter long aftertaste. Body is a bit fuller than usually. Carbonation medium.

O: A nice well balanced Zwickel.

A clouded amber beer with a warm off-white head leaving good lacing, some curtains.

A fruity, apples and pears smell, some bread.

Tasting of sweet grains, some fruit nuances, ripe apples, a slight bitter lemon peel finish.

Little carbonation, smooth and refreshing, a nice smooth dry finish.

A very drinkable yummy kellerbier.

The colour is deep amber-gold (35 EBC), the liquid cloudy. The two finger head is airy, uneven and warm beige. It sinks slowly leaving lots of beautiful lacing. The beer is (of course) bottle conditioned.

The smell is smooth and quite strong. Fresh flowery-grassy hops, smoked hints, dry malty bread-like notes. It is overall unpolished and unclean in a good way. Hints of delicatessen, metal and ripe apricots.

The taste is fresh and refreshing. Some quite clean earthy-yeasty notes give an interesting complexity and depth to the flavours. Fresh medium bitter flavours with hints of hay and dried flowers. The aftertaste got a growing dry bitterness and tart hints of tree sap and fresh flowers (Dandelions?). Some lightly roasted malt and a touch of rye bread. The finish is dry, complex and medium bitter.

The carbonation is medium to light, the few medium sized bubbles very fresh. The liquid is dry.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Jan 2012. Picked up cheap from Beeritz in Leeds.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A hazy orange-amber colour with good carbonation and plentiful floating sediment. Yields a large head of white foam that lasts for a minute or so before collapsing to a surface layer. Aroma of yeasty malt with faint hoppy notes and a background hint of cardboard. Could be better.

Tastes of caramel malt with a distinctive bitter twang. Notes of yeast and faint aromatic hops. A subtle, spicy bitterness. A background hint of wet cardboard and tart apples. Mouthfeel is smooth and prickly, with mild astringency. Coats the palate slightly. Aftertaste of harsh bitter hops and a stale note.

An OK beer, but I strongly suspect that it's too old and the flavour has deteriorated. The malt is quite good, with depth provided by the yeast and a hoppy bitterness, but the stale notes take away from the pleasure of drinking it. I'll have to re-review when I have a fresher bottle.

500ml bottle poured in a mug.

A: Pours an reddish amber color. Bit cloudy. Head is white, small and bubbled when poured. Retention is not bad with some nice lacings left

S: Dominated by caramel malts and bread. Yeasts and grassy/earthy hops

T: Follows the nose. Caramel malts, bread, yeasts and hops. Reminds an English bitter or even an APA. Dry on taste with a nice flowery hoppy bitterness

M: Extremely light body. Medium fizzy carbonation. Moderate bitter aftertaste

O: The first Keller I've ever had and it was quite a surprise. I was not expecting such a light bodied and, at the same time, quite hoppy beer from Germany. Recommended

Pours somewhat hazed (not nearly as cloudy as expected, indicating filtration to at least some degree) light-amber body, topped by dense, medium sized beige head that last and finally forms thick, firm cloth.The head sticks to the walls and
each swirl weaves very stable lacing on the sides. Aroma is nut-like maltiness and Munich malt sweetness with accompanying melanoidin qualities. The expected German aromatic hops are virtually non-existent.
Low, fine carbonation typical of the style results from maturation in unbunged casks. The rather non-sweet, nut-like malt flavor gets balanced towards the surprisingly clean, dry finish (a result of cask maturation) with a pronounced bitterness and mild hop-spiciness. The suspended yeast adds earthy touch to the flavor. Aftertaste is bitter with slight nutty astringency. Medium bodied with a soft motuhfeel. (500 ml, BB date reads 02. September 2011, into the mug.)

It is the most rated Keller Bier yet yesterday was the first time I had ever seen it on the shelf.

It pours a hazy reddish/brownish/amber with a dirty off-white head.

The smell is of dark bread, honey, and dark fruits, there is some raisins and prunes and some purple wine grapes. There is a slight bit of earth form the hops.

The mouthfeel is pretty carbonated. It is thick and malty with some dark fruits and bread. It has a subtle hop bitterness in the finish which is nice.

This really is a nice one, I don't know why it isn't widely distributed in my area.

Bottled 26th December 2010, nice and fresh.

Pours a darkish amber with loads of carbonation. A nice light head, a bit too slippery for lacings.

Not a particularly pleasant nose. Bit of wet grain up front with fleeting caramel notes.

Sort of a slow starter. Muddy malt up front gives way to just a touch of caramel and a hint of roasted malt. This is pushed out of the way by some pretty serious continental hopping with a nice bitter edge. Drawn out finish brings to mind bread pudding, nice sweetness but some real heft too.

A nice smooth moutfeel, easier on the carbonation than the appearance lets on.

Give me a beer garden and a sunny day and I would happily drink this all day. Nice to have a good bottles Keller.

Regret doing this because I've had good bottles of this in the past but this was just tired. Slightly cloudy faded amber to look at with some loose fluffy head this both smelt and tasted tinny and slightly cabbagy. Don't think this was a storage problem as this was a very recent purchase apparently from a new shipment but...

Poured from bottle medium bronze, with a decent lively head. Aroma heavy with the malts, though not sweet, and a slight 'grassy' freshness. Initial taste is of the roast malts, but dry, and - for a German beer - a quite pronounced hop bitterness in the finish - though mixed with a roasted malt flavours. Very tasty.

Light easy drinking texture, best served slightly chilled, a very enjoyable beer.

Have also had this on tap from a wooden barrel when in Bamberg Germany, and also enjoyed it very much there too. I would be hard pressed to say which one was better - though I think the on tap from barrel was less carbonated and thus slightly softer in texture.

Quite bitter amber beer.

Nice creamy head and pleasant carbonation. No yeast in the bottle. In the glass it's a clear coppery amber. Metallic odor and a hint of sulphur. Reminds me of an English bitter from the Midlands with the distinctive sulphury hints. Doesn't do this beer any good since it is so bitter. Sourish hints with little evidence of malt. Date is 7.11.10 so it must be in proper condition. I've become a big fan of Kellerbiers, but I don't think this is a particularly good example.

Label has been updated since the photo was taken: now it's a nice Medieval brewery scene with a very small Saint George logo.
