So I'm stuck in State College and check the internet for bars and up pops Otto's that claims to be a brewery. Well I had to try it but did not harbor high hopes; after all, how many brew pubs fail to meet expectations? I was happy to find my apprehension entirely unfounded. Otto's makes good beer across the board. This double IPA is a great example. Overall take-away: it's super hoppy bitter, maybe lacks the finesse and depth of the leaders, but this is no impostor. Pours a syrupy, murky orange-amber, almost no head or lacing (as if that matters much?) moderate carbonation; I let it warm up a little before tasting and the carbonation dissipated. Aroma is fairly typical citrus-pine thing, quite a lot of aromatics. On the palate it is pretty blunt, reminiscent of Hop Mouth of recent memory, not a lot of sweetness or fruit up front, but a potent bitter (like black tea) lingering finish that lasts a long time.

I tasted the draft version and it was comparable.

22 oz bottle. Pours orange with a short lived white head. Aroma is of citrusy hops, orange marmalade, pale malt and ripe fruit. Body is full and tangy. Citrusy, herbal hops, caramel malt, and ripe fruit fill the mouth. Finish is long and very hoppy. Very nice IPA.

Bought a 22-oz bottle while in Williamsport, PA. Cost approx. $3.50. No freshness or bottled on date can be seen on bottle.

Pours a clear copper color with okay head that thins to a lace. Good carbonation evident. Smells American hop citrus & pine upfront with supporting malt sweetness to back it up. Perhaps a little too much sweet caramel malt in the nose. Tastes hoppy upfront with a nice firm bitterness and a lingering resiny hop flavor. Malt is there and supportive, and does not get in the way of the hop notes. Mouthfeel a tad too heavy due to the perceived sweetness. Tastes dry yet sweet.

Overall, a very decent double IPA. Would drink again, especially for the price.
