A relatively new establishment right in Corn Hill Landing in Rochester NY. This is what is supposed to be the higher end sibling of the Tap & Mallet by the same owner.
Located in a little plaza right off of Exchange St overlooking the Genesee River, the T&T is in a decent neighborhood. There are a fair number of parking spaces, although we went at around 4:30pm on a Wednesday, so it certainly wasn't a dinner rush. I can see this place getting really busy on a Friday or Saturday night and having difficulty finding parking. Anyway, when you walk in, there is a small foyer area where coats can be hung and the walkway splits to go up a few steps or if you go to the right you can find the restrooms. After a few steps up, there is a nice open dining area adjacent to a pretty long, well-stocked bar that extends all the way down the room. There are at least 15-20 taps, although I didn't stop to count. There are tables and booths in the dining area, which is very roomy with large windows so you can see out to the river. There is also an outdoor patio where I can see being popular in the warm season. I see an additional level up above where possibly private events could be held. The atmosphere is one of a dimly lit pub with lots of deeply-toned finished wood furniture, fit for anyone from yuppies to your local townfolk. There were maybe 4 other customers in the place at the time.
The tap list was pretty nice. A decent selection of local breweries, US breweries, and imports. I didn't notice any macros on the list, but they do serve some in bottle form I think. Examples of beers on tap at the time: 3HB The Kind IPA, JW Lee's Vintage Harvest Ale aged in calvados casks, Evil Twin Lil B Imperial Porter, Amager Bryghus Batch 1 barleywine, Captain Lawrence, Heavy Seas BA Below Decks, and a bunch of other good crafts. You're looking at no less than $5 per drink, and of course the price goes up with rarity/abv.
We went for dinner so I didn't see the lunch menu. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive. We were able to sample beers before purchasing, which is always a plus in my book. My fiancee ordered some sort of salad and I got the burger. There were things on the menu like duck, quinoa burger, water buffalo meatballs, gnocchi, salmon, chicken breast, salads, and pork belly. Pretty interesting mix of food on the menu. However, the least expensive dish is around $10 and it goes up from there. The pork belly dish is $17, salmon is $22, and $8-12 for the appetizers. My burger's bun was burnt and I had to scrape off the black stuff so I didn't feel like I was eating ash. However, the beef was cooked to my liking. Their fries are kind of like those Belgian style frites, super crispy.
Overall, I'd say this place would make for a good evening out, especially in the summer where you can see the river. I think the craft beer selection is very good and there is something for every palate. However, there is something to be said about properly toasting your bread so it doesn't end up being charcoal. The food is a little above average at this point. At this point, I would say that the food value is skewed towards the pricier side. I'm hesitant to order anything pricier than $10-12 for an entree, but I think I may revisit the food in the future.
