A: Black as the witching hour with just a bare hint of light through the edges. Poured out a big sudsy tan head that didn't hold, but collapsed down to just a thin cap.

S: Dry bitter chocolate with acrid coffee and just a hint of background note of roasted pumpkin. Molasses maltiness also present in the background.

T: Big malty notes with coffee and bitter chocolate. Earthy vegatative notes in the background -similar to a roasted pumpkin. Maltiness sucks onto the tongue and holds there leaving a chocolatey smokey malty after taste.

M: Some minimal fizz upfront but over all smooth and medium body.

O: Great drink that presents strong malty chocolate notes with smooth coffee taste. I struggled to find the pumpkin, but enjoyed the brew for what it does offer. Paired excellently with chocolate cake for a terrific night cap.

Parallel 49 "Lost Souls" a Chocolate Pumpkin porter @ 6.5% , served chilled from a 650 ml bottle ,
A-pours a very dark brown , with some orange hues along the glass edge , nice size tan head that slowly dissapates leaving some fine lacing along the stein
S-more chocolate than pumpkin , not much in spices
T-more chocolate than pumpkin , as a chocolate porter smooth & creamy tasting , picture 'Terrys Chocolate Orange Bar' , this version is Pumpkin flavor
MF-medium body , ok/good carbonation
Ov-not a great beer , but certainly a good and decent addition to the west coast Chocolate Porters(Phillips-Longboat,Lighthouse-Dark Chocolate) come to mind , pity it's only a seasonal

cheers LampertLand

Appearance. Lost Souls pours a deep dark brown with just a little reddish light getting through at the edges. It's capped with a finger of thick, light tan head.

Smell. Chocolate fudge with a little nutmeg-type spice. There are some roasty malts in there, but the chocolate is up front.

Taste. Creamy dark chocolate and some nice dark roasted malts. Maybe just a little roasted pumpkin in the background but I probably wouldn't have picked it out if I wasn't looking for it. Really nice stuff nonetheless.

Mouthfeel, Medium body, creamy below-medium carbonation.

Overall. Just a fantastic porter with a little extra. Really enjoyed this one.

A: Slight tan head over black/cola coloured liquid.

S: Pumpkin, roasted malt, spices and yeast.

T: Sweet pumpkin, bakers chocolate, spices, and roasted malt with bready yeast in the finish.

M: Medium viscosity and a medium level of fine carbonation.

O: A number of different flavours here that don't exactly integrate.

Parallel 49 continues to create huge buzz over their beers with two new Fall releases. One is the Pumpkin Okfest called Schadenfreude and this beer which a Chocolate Pumpkin Porter called Dead Souls. It comes in a 650ml bottle with a cool comic book influenced picture of a reaper raising his fist in front a wall of fiery lost souls : way cool .

The beer is a huge taste of lots of chocolate with the pumpkin staying in the background. The beer is so well balanced and not austere like some porters. I loved the way the finish goes on for quite awhile tasting both chocolatey and malty at the same time. Parallel 49 could get my vote for BC brewery of the year against very heavy competition.
