A pint at the Underground. Always nice to see a new Canadian brewery's wares available.
This beer appears a hazy pale golden blonde hue, with one thick finger of foamy, puffy ecru head, which leaves some random mitochondrial lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.
It smells of bready, somewhat biscuity cereal grains, a mild orchard fruitiness, middling yeast, and some earthy, leafy hops. The taste is grainy, kind of pastry-like malt, a pleasantly muddled drupe fruitiness, and earthy, weakly grassy hops.
The carbonation is quite tame, the body medium-light in weight, and really rather creamy. It finishes off-dry, the biscuity, bready malt lingering more so than the opposing noble hops.
A tasty, agreeable blonde, sort of a rare species at this time. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

A: Minimal white head over straw coloured liquid with excellent clarity and minimal carbonation.
S: Yeast, sweetness and the slight smell of grass and earth of noble hops.
T: Not exactly tightly constructed: flavours of barley that tastes like sweet corn, as well as yeast and grassy and earthy hops go off in different directions leaving a less than pleasant aftertaste.
M: Syrupy medium viscosity and low carbonation. Somewhat dry.
O: A gift from my father when he visited Powell River, its doubtful that I would revisit this one again due to its less than favourable drinkability.

Had the beer on tap at Biercraft on Cambie. This is a creamy ( almost nitro tasting) Golden ale that has enough hops to make it interesting but not enough to scare off the craft neophyte. Pretty tasty patio beer that is on par with Saltsprings Golden ale ( one of my fave local examples of the style). Most BC brewers have a lager as a gateway beer but kudos to Townsite for producing a style not given the respect it deserves.
