This raspberry lager pours a bright red with some scary pink carbonation and no lace.

The aroma is an olfactory-pleasing raspberry, so not bad there.

Taste? First, this isn't beer in any way I can detect. I get a heavy-flavored soft drink with 8% alcohol. It's super-sweet and artificial-tasting, with no trace of hops or grain. Avoid this awful travesty and don't look back.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass..big pink head went to nothing in 30 seconds, looked like a cherry soda minus the ice cubes and a straw. Smell showed Raspberry and sour candy hints, no Lager smell at all. Tastes like Raspberry pop with real fruit juice added, I feel this is a little to close to a wine cooler type drink to be taken seriously as a Premium Lager....but really who thinks that's what Anheuser Busch was trying to do?
Mouthfeel was thin with slight fizz at times and flat other times, overall this is STRONG on the fruit side of a fruit beer and is easy to drink...just not so much if you want to enjoy a beer...can't taste that here...at least for my tastes. Glad I tried this and the sister Wild Blue Blueberry Lager as singles...no harm no foul and increased my taste range to the fruit extreme.

I bought this out of an inherent sense of curiosity while visiting Highland Pizzeria on President's Day. Hey, when singles are available, I will try anything once.

Wow, this is a beer for Pink, the Pink Panther, Pinky & the Bean and anybody else who has an affinity for that color and variations on shade. I started out with two fingers of cotton candy-colored head that quickly fell to wisps. The color of the beer reminded me of clarified beet juice. Very clear and very purplish-red. The nose was really sweet, more so than I might expect from natural flavoring. You wouldn't be cheating up on us, now, you rascals?!? Mouthfeel was slightly effervescent, but I was troubled by the taste. Raspberry naturally lends a slight (or greater) tartness to alcoholic beverages, whether beer or wine, and this was more like candy. Better living through chemistry? There is no naturally occurring ester that cannot be recreated in a laboratory and I have a feeling that this is what was done here. For shame! Finish was sweet, just sweet and cloying. I felt like I had been drinking perfume. Ugh.

APPEARANCE: Sickly fizzy clear light pink. Looks like a wine cooler.

SMELL: Rasperries and stale, left-in-the-glass-overnight merlot.

TASTE: Raspberry flavoring leaving a slick coating on the palate. Wine cooler like taste, this should be called " Sea Breeze Raspberry Mixer". Like in medieval times, maybe urine could have been added to balance. It's not far off in its current state.

FEEL: Overcarbonated sweet cloying mess that really sticks with you. Oof!

OVERALL: Fizzy fruity berry. Not beer really a shame it boasts itself as one. Money was never exchanged but trust me I paid for it.

12 oz twist-off bottle poured into a pilsner glass.
8% ABV, 12086 printed on label.
(Reviewed 06-24-12 - from notes)

A - Deep ruby pink in hue, the color is so rich it's frightening. A fleeting light pastel head drapes a few fingers of lace on the glass before collapsing to next to nothing.

S - Thick raspberry fruit puree is reminiscent of sugar-laden IHOP syrup, though not as inciting. Grainy pale malt barely makes it through but it still features a crisp lager finish. While it smells artificial, I can't bring myself to say it's offending but maybe that's my love affair with raspberries coming out.

T - Abundantly sweet, cloying, completely fake raspberry flavor overlaps the generous helping of cheap malt liquor flavor behind. It's not pleasant at all.

M - The 8% doesn't hide well here. You can just feel it's warmth on retronasal breathing. Thick and cloyingly sweet with a moderate carbonation level and grossly grainy finishing.

O - A poor substitute for a wine cooler, Rascal's Wild Red is sickly sweet to the point a diabetes warning should be included on packaging. It's like mixing IHOP syrup with half a can of Steele Reserve. Avoid this one.

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass

A: Hey who put cool-aid in my beer... Poured a blush wine color with a little pink head that disappears more quickly than it arrived and with not lacing at all.

S: Sweet, tart raspberries wine with a hint of alcohol.

T: Sweet right up front then the tart raspberries kick in. Hardly any any note of alcohol in the taste. Very clean finish.

M: Light bodied, wet with a crisp carbonation.

O: This is more like a wine than a beer... But for what it is it is spot on for the style. If you like raspberries this might be for you.

Doesn't look like a beer. Yeah, it's liquid and has a head, but that's it. It's a reddish burgundy pour. It's got a large pink head. Mix cranberry juice and 7Up, same thing.

Offensive smell of raspberry juice...from across the room. I give it an extra half point because I like raspberries.

It's terrible. Tastes like an extremely bad kriek mixed with too much raspberry juice.

It was actually painful going down. Due to overwhelming carbonation, it actually burns the whole way. Far too sweet.

Overall, it's shit. It's really not a beer. While I actually kind of liked Wild Blue, this was a disaster from start to end.
