For Rye PA, our unique twist on a pub staple, we added malted rye to the popular India pale ale style. The rye malt gives the ale a distinctive malt profile with a hint of spiciness.

The beer pours an amber color with a thick frothy white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is decent. It has a nice pale and Carapils malt scent along with a light rye spiciness. The hop character is mild at best. The taste average. It has a weak and watery pale, crystal, bisquit, and rye malt flavor. It's bitter, but nothing over the top. The mouthfeel is average as well. It is a low/medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a pretty good try for AB, but they need to be a bit more adventurous.

This beer set it off for me on the hunt for RYE IPAs. Not that wasn't already looking for this flavor for a while. I bought this at a flea market, maybe not the best place to buy. I was aged. It had a long time to sit where it may have been sitting till I rescuced it, HA! Lets being, off the bat it had the smell of time on its hand. You can taste it a little of it too. The body was a great color of amber and it was cloudy. The head was great lacy rings, After each drink a ring.Nice.
I have to have one that has not sat there like this one did, becuase I think I would have more to say. Very good beer.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. There appears to be no freshness date only an odd bottle number. (09217 VC74)

Appearance: The body has a bright or new coopery color with good clarity. Its head is bright white and of an average two finger size. The head has good retention and make for some cool sticky lace rings on the glass.

Smell: Its aroma is very bready and spicy (rye like) with a light citrus hop aroma.

Taste/Palate: There is a good medium body on which there are notes of bready and light caramel maltiness. The rye does add its own touch of spice as well. This is all backed up and balanced by a modest addition of citrus hops and bitterness. Its carbonation is active and gives the texture a nice drinkable and cleansing feel.

Notes: There's not much I can say, other than it's a good solid and quaffable beer from Anheuser Busch.

I thought this was an impressive beer, not even because it was an offering from Michelob, this beer holds it's own against any quality craft micro-brewed beer, but what a great combination of flavors as well. The color is an inviting orange/light copper hue and it retained 3/4 of an inch of thick head with some nice lacing to boot. The smell is herbal rye, citrusy and hoppy with slight caramel malt. The flavor is big in this beer: light caramel and resinous hops in the fore front with some citrus-hop like nuances mid swallow and ending with a complimenting, bready rye finish. Over all a really solid beer. Really enjoyed this one. Keep up the good work Michelob!

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light coppery brown color, with a large off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a spotty lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of light caramelized malts, some citrus, some spice and a little bit of hops.

T: The taste starts out bready with flavors of rye malts and grain followed by mildly sweet flavors of caramel, spices and a little citrus. The hops presence is notable but it's weak for the style. The malt character is hearty and there's a decent balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

D: A little tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, not the best representation of style, it's not a bad beer but there are several other beers with rye malts that I would choose first.

Very nice looking beer. A copper coloured, deep copper. Tons of lacing down the glass. Smells of some type of minty hop, not overwhelming, but a bit noticeable. Very spicey taste..cannot quite pinpoint it. Taste is good but flavor a bit off. An interesting beer, nonetheless that I would like to try again.

A - Poured out a slightly hazy, amber-orange color with a small, thin, off-white head of foam. It left little to no lace.

S - It smelled of biscuity malt, caramel and some spice.

T - It tasted of some sweet bready/biscuity malt and rye. It had a mild citrusy bite. The heavy dose of malt makes it taste like a hoppy amber or malty pale ale.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light to medium bodied ale with a dry finish.

D - This is a nice brew. It has some hop bite and a good backbone of rye and malt.

Acquired this from TheManiacalOne so a big THANK YOU goes out to him!

A: This beer pours a nice deep, dark, clear amber color with a one finger of offwhite creamy head. Head retains nicely and leaves wispy lacing on the glass.

S: Nose is of light citrusy hops, rye, and some bready notes.

T: Taste starts with a hint of caramel malt that lends to a mixture of rye and bready notes. Finish has a bit of citrusy hop bite to it.

M: Medium body, medium carbonation, creamy body.

D: This is an ok beer. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. This would be a nice alternative when out at the bars where only macros are served.
