Notes:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

During even the coldest of weather, warm up to the smooth, robust taste of our Winter's Bourbon Cask Ale. Full of rich aromas that you find in the winter months, hints of vanilla and flavorful hops, this is a beer that is great for pouring into a large tulip glass and enjoying with friends around a fireplace.

A - Pours a very nice mahogony body with a fluffy off-white head that retains very well. Quite attractive.

S - Definitely get the vanilla bean aspect in this beer right away. Vanilla and sweet dark malts, no real hop presence. Slightly oaky aroma but I don't really get the bourbon... just strong vanilla extract that gives it that alocoholic smell.

T&M - This was a mess. At first sip I thought this was decent, then it went downhill. Tastes like a very unbalanced doppelbock IMO. Strong vanilla extract taste with boozier alcohol than expected. Very fizzy and sweet on the tongue with a disastrous aftertaste. This left a terrible taste in my mouth after each sip.

D - This ended up in the drain. I think this is my first drain poor... maybe my second behind MGD. I just couldn't put this down. A few sips was more than enough for me and I think I'm very optimistic about beers and rate them highly in general. Absolutely will not try this again. Period.

Anybody who gave this a rating below 4 is dead wrong. This is a smooth, thick, smoky, vanilla-y beer. A fantastic combination of flavors, extremely well executed by AB. I would challenge anyone to taste this beer blindly and rate it below a 4. Stop discriminating based on its macro maker. I rated this a 5 as to cancel out at least one of the low ratings. This beer is probably right around a 4 or 4.25. Everyone who has an opportunity should try it this winter.
