Had tap at the Solemn Oat beer dinner at Wild Monk. Served in a pilsner-esque taster.
A: Pours a clear golden color with a thin whtie head forming on the pour. It recedes to a thin ring and it leaves some sticky lace down the glass.
S: Some light pear, stone fruit and yeast all show up in the nose. The yeast is slightly peppery and phenolic. Some light cracker malts are present as well to give it a litte edge.
T: The taste follows the nose. Nice stone fruit and pear flavors mixed with some spicy, peppery yeast. Lighter malts show up on the finish.
M: Light to medium bodied, this is definitely heftier than most other saisons. Nice medium carbonation level with dry, almost chalky finish.
O: I actually really enjoyed this. The 6 oz. pour I had was perfect and I'd definitely try this again.

Draft at FatPour, served in a tulip glass.
Hazy orange body, saturated color, copious foam that spilled over the rim of the glass. Great retention, some delicate lace formed in the glass also.
Fruity and phenolic aromas, spicy along with some light banana eaters.
Flavors of pepper and clove spice, some tart citrus and banana. Spice seems to dominate and the alcohol is somewhat present. Effervescent carbonation, creamy feel with some residual hop bitterness in the aftertaste. Overall it's pretty interesting, nothing too wild but worth a try.

Served in a shaker pint glass at Hopleaf.
Finishing off my successful first visit to Hopleaf with a new offering from the Naperthrilling folks at Solemn Oath. It pours a slightly cloudy sienna-ish-amber topped by over a finger of lightly off-cream-white foam. The nose comprises black pepper, clove, Belgian yeast, light toasted wheat, and light orange peel. The taste brings in more of the same, with more orange peel than before and some sweet caramel tossed in for good measure. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a dry, prickly finish. Overall, a nice little saison-like thing; nothing to get excited over, but a generally tasty brew.
