I am continuing to empty my refrigerator of bottles from various sources. It is my intent to get back to The CANQuest (TM) soonest.

From the bottle: "A deep Stowe, Vermont heritage, this small batch classic now makes its home in Middlebury, Vermont."; "Brimming with citrus hop aroma, this IPA inherits its complex flavor from ample hop additions throughout the entire brew."; "Born in Stowe, Vermont, at the legendary Shed Restaurant & Brewery. Moved to Middlebury to raise up a family of Vermont ales."; "Brewed since 1995 Established in Stowe, Vermont"; "a hoppy good ale".

The label also read "Unfiltered" so I went with a medium-handed pour, not aggro but not gentle, either. This resulted in at least two fingers of dense, tawny head with great retention. Color was a deep amber with NE-quality clarity. Nose was redolent with grapefruit-citrus hops and my mouth was watering as a result. Mouthfeel was very soft, allowing the citrus hops to really shine. Finish was definitely dry, but not so dry as to leave me gasping for air. I did an agitation for my second pour and released the lees as a result. I guess that it depends on what you like. Personally, I do not mind the lees and like them as a separate/final pour. No problem there. One final thought - I am unsure that this is an EIPA. It tastes more like and AIPA.

This is a decent average ipa with noticable citrus tones with a hint of earthiness and almost a soil kind of thing. It's smooth on the feel. Pretty easy to drink, but more of a mass appeal ipa instead of something bringing some punch. I can dig it though.

LOOK: Awful looking beer with large chunks of sediment in a burnt orange body. The highlight is about two inches of soapy foam.

AROMA: Stewed hop aroma of citrus, pine and wood.

TASTE: Mild cascade like hoppy ness with some pine, citrus and floral notes. Just enough raw earthy hop flavor you would expect from an unfiltered beer. Bitterness wins out over the bready, toffee like malt character. Oily hop resins steal the show, and the flavor is good overall.

FEEL: Medium bodied, medium low carbonation, kind of chalky feel.

OVERALL: Tasty beer, suffered a bit from caked yeast in the bottle. Would love to try it on tap sometime, as this has some potential.

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden orange color…not overly transparent, I can see a bunch of sediment and a few bubbles floating about…just off white head formed and remains at about a pinky finger thick…stays fairly frothy throughout…(4/5)

Smell: Light, fresh hops, mouthwatering really…orange, lemon, grapefruit and some mild piney bite up front…though very hops heavy, it’s a light, crisp smell, dominated more by airy citrus aromas rather than earthy or woodsiness…malts are sweet and pale with a touch of caramel, very much in a supporting role…I have to say, the more I smell this thing (and as it warms), the more I get that piney resinous bite…very nice…(3.75/5)

Taste: Hmmm…very balanced flavor, not what I was expecting…toasted/caramel malts mixed with earthy/piney hops up front…there’s the noticeable piney bite, but there’s not an extreme citrus bitterness that I was expecting from the nose…I do get some orange, lemon and grapefruit, but they are definitely complimentary…the bitterness that does come is very dank pine and that doesn’t come until late…it’s a fairly straight forward flavor, finishes basically as it begins…as it warms, more and more piney bite hits the tongue…(3.75/5)

Mouthfeel: Medium body with medium carbonation…it fluffs up bringing light flavors of caramel malt and piney/earthy bitterness to the palate…brew really comes in and out without leaving much trace on my tongue, though there is some piney bitterness lingering in the after taste…(3.5/5)

Overall: This is a solid brew…the flavor has a fantastic bite and is surprisingly balanced…super drinkable with light enough body, I could enjoy a couple in one sitting without feeling heavy…while it’s not mind blowing, Shed’s IPA is worth seeking out and scooping up…thanks to my boy Chaco Taco for hooking me up with this one…if it were sold around me, I’d buy it again…(3.75/5)

A-Pours a hazy orange with a moderate head. Some good lacing too.

S-Modest hoppiness. Semi-bitter citrus. Sweet undertones with light piney hops.

T-Candied citrus and pine. Flavors are biting. Also decently balanced. Sweet malty breads.

M-Medium bodied. Dry and sort of bitter.

O/D-Not a terrible IPA. Doesn't 'wow' you at all. Tasty enough.

Picked up some Shed in an Easter beer swap. Beer and Jesus go together like cocaine and waffles.

Dark gold, hazy with lots of floaties. Perhaps one of the floaty-est beers I've ever laid eyes on. Heady with lots and lots of rings.

Grapefruit and caramel with a "neutral" leafy, bag o' hops hoppiness. Smells "bright" according to common consensus.

Grapefruit over caramel soaked bready malt. Full and a little juicy.

A solid IPA. I could never see myself seeking it out but wouldn't kick it out of my cooler either.

I didn't much care for this beer at all.
First the batch I got was or had to be contaminated because there was an aweful lot of floaters which looks unappealling to see the lest.
The aroma was mostly biscuit malts and not very hoppy. Even though this is an English style I would still expect to smell something.
Taste was very sweet and malty.
No this thing needs some help.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a cloudy orange/brown color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of hops, a touch of citrus. Taste is well balanced hops and malts, a mild bitterness, very easy drinking. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall I enjoyed this beer, but if you are looking for a hop bomb, this ain't it.

I'm not sure if I got a fluke 6 pack - but after I poured this beer there was a good amount of floaties all over!! Does this usually happen to unfiltered IPAs? I'm trying to get over it but for some reason its leaving me with a queasy feeling...

Other than that though, the color is beautiful - a autumn sunset orange an perfectly white frothy head.
Smell is also lovely, although it pales to the upfront spicy earthy hops when you take the first sip.

I've had this beer many times before, so I'm trying to take into account those times as well as this weird floaty experience. I think its a good all-around IPA, I would definitely recommend it. If anyone knows why I would get the floaties, please message me, I'd like to know why...

Had this on 2013-03-13 in Columbia, PA

A - Hazy amber-orange with a 1.5-finger pillowy white head. Looked nice at first but there are some big-time floaties in this brew.

S - Toasted bread with orange marmelade and light floral. Pretty mild.

T - Citric hop forward, orange tea, mild toasted malt, grapefruit flesh and zest. Dries quickly and finishes with some tart orange and lingering bitterness. Tastes good.

M - Light-medium body and medium carbonation. Prickly, crisp, lightly resinous. I could feel a few floaties going past the back of my throat. Other than the particles, I liked the feel.

O - Well, if it weren't for the floaties and the mild aroma, this beer would certainly have scored higher since I liked the flavor. I'm going to try look for another bottle to try; hoping the particles and light aroma were the exception rather than the rule.

A: Pours out a very hazy amber color. As the bottle states, it is clearly unfiltered. One finger of off-white head. No lacing or retention to speak of.

S: Mild smell of grapefruit, dank pine, and breadiness.

T: Similar to the smell with some floral tones in there as well.

M: Medium light body with medium carbonation.

O: Meh. A real typical, traditional IPA. The killer is the quick dissipating smell that was already weak to begin with. It almost felt like an overly bitter pale ale. I won't be going back for any more of these.

Unfiltered caramel color which looks great for an IPA. Floral and citrus aroma. The aroma continues into the taste. The floral and citrus notes from the aroma really shine with a more bitter hop centered taste. The classic IPA bitterness coupled with the grapefruit citrus sweetness makes for a really refreshing beer for the summer. Finishes on the bitter side.

Appearance: Cloudy and hazy copper with brassy hues. On top is two fingers worth of a very frothy head that as it thins out it leaves behind thick lacing.

Aroma: Grapefruit, caramel malts with a light breadiness. Biscuity and floral hop dryness.

Taste: Citrus fruit in the front, grapefruit, lemon notes. Semi dry mouthfeel. Malts are bready with some caramel sweetness.

Notes: Very drinkable with a nice dry finish. Cheers.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on December 22, 2012.

This looks like a typical IPA with its medium amber pour and moderate off-white head. It is slightly cloudy and the head lingers.

On the nose the aroma is vibrant with floral hops to the point that I feel like I am standing over a Vermont flower garden in June. Pale malts are secondary.

The body is smooth and about medium.

The taste has a quick burst of pale malts but then the floral hoppy character takes command and leaves a moderate bitterness on the tail end. People who love their hops will find this to be a delight.

Poured into an imperial pint glass. Color was a medium burnt orange color with numerous slow small streams of bubbles rising from the bottom. Nice full thick head that clung extremely well, but thinned out fairly fast. Aroma was a floral slightly sweet hoppy smell. Nothing over bearing or unpleasant. Flavor was a bit thin and watery. A piney hoppy finish, with a bit of kick, but not much. Felt good in the mouth, coated ok with a a tad of carbonation. Overall a solid IPA, but nothing spectacular.

A - Pours medium gold with the frothy head dying quite quickly, mild carbonation, and alot of "floaties" even after pouring carefully.

S -Toasted caramel malt, light lemon, grapefruit, and a little grainy.

T - The taste is dominated with toasted caramel, grainy malt, with pine, grapefruit, and zesty grass coming in slowly at the beginning and ending strong with a lingering and bitter bite. The beer is only 6% but for such low alcohol, it's coming through slightly.

M - Thick for a single IPA, would be more appropriate in a D-IPA but since I love D-IPA's I have no qualms about the thickness. Leaves a coating in the mouth of grass, pine, grapefruit, and bitter lemon peel.

O - A decent IPA that sits on the lower end of middle in the IPA pack. Pro's: personally enjoy the thicker texture and is generously hopped for an English Style IPA making it more American than English, no complaints here. Cons: grainy and low alcohol coming through. The aftertaste is what I would consider the most enjoyable part of this beer because the malts kill the hops during the experience but afterwards when the malt is gone, the hop residue gets to shine through a little more.

Poured from a bottle into a tumbler pint, the beer is a bright, slightly hazed, goldenrod coloring with little to no head. Aromas of grapefruit, light toffee, and floral hops. Very smooth and well balanced nose. Flavors of roast toffee initially, immediately followed up by floral and bitter hops that completely take over the palate. Cedar, cut grass, and sap all blend to represent the hopping in this brew, and the citrus tones shine through at the end of the palate to add some tartness to the bitter aftertaste. The malt profile literally disappears by the aftertaste. Light, crisp mouthfeel, with a bitter, slightly drying finish. Solid brew, with flavors stronger than the looks and ABV would lead you to believe.

Poured a murky copper hue with a three finger frothy white head. There was very good retention and sticky lacing.

The smell featured a light piney hop with a grainy pale malt aroma.

The taste consisted of moderately toasted malts with herbal and piney hops.

The mouthfeel was round and full.

Overall a tasty and well balanced ale with a fresh hop bite.

A- Bottle poured into a pint glass with a hazy, golden-orange body. A white cap forms to about a finger in size and has frothy texture. Retention is lackluster and the head falls to a small ring and dusting atop the beer. Spotty lace around the glass.

S- On the lighter side with hints of citrus zest, grapefruit, caramel, floral yeast bread and even some nutty cracked grain notes. Not getting a ton to talk about.

T- More hop-centric here. Hops lend nice notes of lemon/orange zest, grapefruit, floral, herbal and pine hints. A balancing force is provided by caramel, yeast bread, spice and fruit hints, seems to be a decent yeast influence in the actual flavor. Exhibits a lot of citrus peel flavors.

MF- Light end body with a creamy overall feel. Carbonation is on the high end which is perfectly fine for a beer with this type of flavor. Fairly bitter in the finish.

More yeast and malt influence than a lot of IPAs today, which is maybe why it is considered an English take on IPA.

I saw this in bottles recently at my local, scratched my head for a second wondering how a now closed brewpub was releasing a bottled version of their IPA. A kind shop owner informed me that it was now being brewed at Otter Creek and it was more of an English style IPA.
Pours a slightly hazy medium golden color with a decent sized white head that quickly drops to a cap. Smells of citrus and earthy hops with some bread and caramel maltiness to provide balance. A hint of mineral water and a touch of orange and lemon round out the nose nicely. The flavor is a bit more focused on the malt than the aroma lead me to believe. Sweet bread, cracker, and caramel malts countered with earthy and citrus hops. Long lingering hop bite at the end of every sip. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a bitter slick mouthfeel. I'm pretty impressed with this bottled version, its been years since I enjoyed any of the beer I've had at the brewpub. This is actually a pretty good gateway IPA.

Picked up on my last trip up to northern VT.

Pours a nice fluffy looking 1.5 finger head, that fades semi slowly with nice soapy lacing, over super hazy sediment laden bright orange honey colored beer.

Nose has lighter hops, little grassy and floral, hint of citrus, a touch candy orange peel as well, light bready reddish malts underneath and hint of yeast.

Taste starts with a light bready malt base, some toasty reddish, with a little sweetness and hint of a yeasty flavor as the bottle conditioning seems to have take off. Sweetness leads into a light candy flavor, candied orange peel hops, which also transitions to more hops, a mild bitterness, hint of citrus hops, somewhat floral and candy almost earthy hops. Finish ramps bitterness as it dries and loses the malt balance, light lingering reddish malt flavor but mostly hops, grassy slight earthy and little citrus hops lingering for a while.

Mouth is med bodied, little fluffy and airy with plenty of carbonation.

Overall pretty good. Nothing crazy, and more of a pale ale than IPA, but decent profile. Decent malt base that balances but stays out of the way of the hops. The bottle conditioning seems to have taken off and added it's own mild profile, but gives the beer a nice robustness. Drinkable and doesn't offend on any account.

Hazy orange glow with 1/2 finger white head which dies quickly. Very mild nose, a little soapy and piney. Some clean caramel malt comes through as well. Touch flowery.

Very clean and crisp english style IPA. Good bitterness but not overwhelming. Dry biscuit malt with a touch of caramel and butter on the mid-palate. Piney and floral bitterness on the back end kicks the brew up a little bit. A very bold but drinkable English IPA with decent balance, pretty good.

A: cloudy orange, trace khaki head, spotty lacing

S: lemon peel, lemon grass, orange marmalade, mild pine

T: lemon peel, grassy, earth biscuit malt, pine slow bitter finish

M: med body, smooth/hint of oily mouth

O: Wife surprised me with this today, solid English IPA.
Might grab this one again, love supporting regional craft breweries
and English IPA is not very common in USA.
Would try more of their beers and recommend

12oz. bottle served in my SA Perfect Pint. Pours a dull, tangerine hue with a slightly hazy clarity and a dense, creamy, three inch, cream-colored head - this beer looks great in the glass. Nose expresses citrus rind and an earthy character. Taste follows nose; however, there is a pleasant, toasted malt character. Citric acid is interspersed throughout the flavor profile and finishes with a slightly earthy bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium-light in body (but closer to light) with a lively, almost prickly carbonation. Acidity lightly stimulates the palate and sides of the cheeks. Overall, a pretty drinkable English IPA. Looking forward to trying more offerings from these guys. I'd love to see this on-cask.

Pours a very dark garnet-y color, kind of a burnt-amber. Head was fine. Smell is of malt. Taste is of malt, with just a touch of hops. Mouthfeel was fine. I can't quite understand how this can be called an ipa. It's a dark-colored malty ale, with very little hop character. It's not "bad" per se, it's just not what you're looking for if you ask for an ipa.
