Hazy red-brown colour with a smooth, light tan head. Fair head retention.

Big fruity aroma. Lots of malt which then flows into a sharp hoppy aroma. Citrussy and crisp. Nice.

Big malty flavour that bags up with bitterness, yeast esters and hop flavour. Lovely balance. The citrus works well here. The bitterness is lingering.

Medium body with moderately-high carbonation. Good.

A really solid beer. Nice balance of malt and hop that is intense, balanced and delicious.

Jeffo gave me this. Thanks man.

Poured into my snifter. Great looking dark amber beer. Nice 1.5 finger head.

Smells like an overripe mango that's hanging from a pine tree. It's that nice.

Bitter hops with a nice balance between what the nose promised and the sturdy malt profile

A medium body with a good amount of carbonation

This is a strong ale that wants to be a double ipa. It's awesome and I want more.

Jeffo, you are pretty much the bomb.

Got this one at De Bierkoning in Amsterdam. A local brewery that is defintely making some noise around here.

From a bottle into a snifter
Bottled at De Molen on 30 October 2012

APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, thicker looking, cream-white head with good retention. Head fades to a thin wisp and bubbly ring, sticking to the sides of the glass. Maroon red, opaque, with no carbonation evident. Splotchy wisp and some decent lacing is left down the glass. Good looking beer.

SMELL: Hoppy nose with floral notes, light orange peel, mango, and some pine. Caramel and pale malts in there as well. Bold and hoppy nose for sure, with notes of fruity cantelope and honeydew melon. Good stuff.

TASTE: Piney and floral hops up front, with caramel toffee and some booze through the middle into the swallow. Bold and lingering aftertaste of floral bitterness, pine, as well as some orange peel and mango sweetness. Some piney and grassy hop bitterness and a touch of alcohol lingers. Solid again.

PALATE: Medium body and carbonation. Very creamy smooth on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes slightly sticky. Oily body with some lingering bitterness. Good feel.

OVERALL: These guys have done a great job so far. This is a flavorful, hoppy, and well executed beer. There is not much of this stuff around and some of it is being cellared, but I'd beg to have it drunk now, as the hop presence works great in this one right now. Very impressed with the beer and with Rooie Dop in general so far. A welcome addition to Dutch beer culture.
