12oz brown bottle with a freshness date.

LOOK: Dark chestnut brown, two fingers of head stays for a while

SMELL: Caramel, cake batter, toasted bread, ripe peaches, dired grass, faint alcohol, wild flowers

TASTE: Toasted grain, smooth, semi-creamy, dried grass, slightly roasty, bitter hop, dried plums, warming alcohol, brown sugar, faint hop spiciness, roasty semi-dry finish.

A solid winter seasonal, hits all the right spots ... warming alcohol, toasty-roasty character & a kiss of complexity. No spicing and pretty damn drinkable.

I favor the malty beers so I couldn’t wait to try this. Pours chestnut brown with red highlights and a frothy tan head that lazily fell off to a thick cap and some big splotchy lace. With this beer the nose finds you. Exciting with a bit of pine up front, ripe fruit, orange, bread and caramel. Malt is very round and approaches chocolate but artfully stops right before. It intrigues. Opens up sweet with plenty of toffee and grain but never becomes chewy. Hops are gentle but firm with light floral and the very faintest hay and dank. Taste is big crusty bread, so much malt but so damn smooth and the sweetness downplayed on the palate. Hops are gentle and give their touch of herbal and bitter then leave crisp with plenty of dryness and bitter in the finish. This was a very impressive seasonal that was gracious and engaging. Vivacious with malt character it let the hops ride in the backseat and completely won me over with every sip.

Wasatch Winterfest has a thick, frothy, tan head, a clear, reddish-brown appearance, bubble streams, and a lot of heavy, splotchy lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of fruit and brown bread crust. Taste is the same, with caramel, toffee, and a very nice, pleasant hop bitterness coming in at the middle and staying through the end. Mouthfeel is medium to full, and Wasatch Winterfest finishes mostly dry, smooth, and delicious. The alcohol warmth kicks in in the throat and stomach as one drinks it down. This is the best winter seasonal I think I’ve ever tried. I rate it quite high. Get some!

Poured from a chilled bottle into a snifter glass. Clear mahogany, with a moderate, loose head that faded fairly quickly. Pronounced, balanced aroma with resin and malt evident.

Piney-citrus hops overpowers the malt at first, surprising for a winter ale. Malt shows up at midpalate, but IBUs prevail at the finish. With 7% alcohol, it's definitely a winter warmer.

I would have liked a more velvety mouthfeel from this beer. Also, the hops were a little over the top; I checked the brewer's website, which said the ale used Columbus and Amarillo, apparently a proprietary strain. They're tasty, but I wish they had played more of a supporting role.

This was pretty disappointing. It's like they took a dark beer and tried to spice it like a pale ale or something. Weird herbal hop flavour a over a moderate maltiness. I don't know what to say about this except that the flavours didn't mesh well at all. I thought it bordered on abysmal. Couldn't think of any food to enjoy it with either.
