Beer #24 in my great Utah Brew Hunt.
This is a pretty nice amber. Nice consistent tones to it. Nothing really showy or overly ambitious, but it works. Especially for an organic ale, which for some reason usually come out not so well. But this is a pleasant ale. I can dig it.

Dark amber in the glass. Some head at first but it fizzles to nothingness quite quickly and of course no lacing. A little spritz on the tongue.
I can't detect much aroma. There is a hint of grainy flavor. More woody, some cereal, some bitter earth. The barest hint of malty sweetness. A little beery with some hoppy bitterness, but not much in the way of aromatics. Finishes with a hint of yesterday's coffee grounds in the aftertaste.
On the whole this is barely average, even with the Utah low-alcohol handicap. Nothing really wrong with it, and it's drinkable for those who like a watered-down version of the earthy hop style. From the 12 oz bottle bought at Emigration Market in Salt Lake.

This brew is not discontinued. I buy it at the grocery store in Utah all the time.
It's really good. It is indeed amber. Blast of hops at first taste then bready malt. Little bit a lacing. It has a great mouth feel, I think it being Organic really helps in this area. Slightly stingy carbonation, but not as bad a typical macro. I drink this one all the time as it is very drinkable, tasty , and satisfying.

the better of the two ambers at squatters. pours a sexy red shade of brown, moderately hazy, fluffy white 2 inch head into a pint glass. smells very rich, caramel malts dominate the nose. much more hops in the flavor, of a pine tree tone, balancing out and making it crisp and refreshing at the end. this is a major session beer, complex, delicious, and easy down. medium body, great carbonation. this would be excellent with anything from the grill, i wish this one was available in colorado.

Does organic beer taste better? Depends on who is making it. But there are plenty of other reasons to drink organic, not the least of which are the effects the pesticides and chemicals used in producing the hops and grain have on those who grow and tend them. As well as those of us who enjoy the finished product.
Squatters Organic Amber pours a nice auburn-caramel color. There’s some thin foam that disappears rapidly. Very, very, very mild aroma. A light caramel-malt flavor on the palate. Not a malt bomb, more like one went off and cleared out the grain bill—there’s just not a whole lot going on here. As it warms I pick up more of the biscuit-malt aromas and flavors I caught in their blonde ale. I thought that flavor profile worked better in the blonde. Here it just… is. Maybe it needs a thicker, fuller mouthfeel to make it work. Otherwise it’s pretty one-dimensional. Clean finish, not a bad beer, just doesn’t do much for me.

The Organic Amber was by far my favorite beer brewer by Squatters. The appearance was a deep red decent white head that laces nicely. The scent had a good malt character with a slight kick of hop. The taste was very light with a body to match. The great taste was bolstered with fresh hop that started the beer then followed by good malt finish. Absoluetly recommend this beer!!! Teh mouthfeel was perfect for a session.

On tap at the Squatter's Pub in the Salt Lake City airport.
It's a typical looking amber... normal amber color with a small white head.
The aroma is mostly malty with a hint of hops... good blend. The flavor is similar, but weaker and a little watery. There is a bitter aftertaste on the end but it's still a decent easy to drink amber ale.

This one may become one of my favorite "local" brews. I picked-up a growler of Squatters Organic Amber a few days ago and forgot about it. Sweet that I was reminded as I was brainstorming bbq/dinner ideas! So...keep in mind that this one was bottled-up a few days ago; bonus that, according the the gal in the store, it was kegged last week too;) Oh, wait...that was the Devistator that was bottled last week which is yumm too;) So, my comments may not match my thoughts on the bottled version. That being said...
Nice nose. Great amber color - copper. Head went quickly leaving slightly more than a trace, but it did pour nice and fluffy with a brown hue to it. Slight lacing, but not much to it. Smooth drinker. Not too hoppy; almost a lawnmower beer for a craft ale. Yumm;) Cheers!

Originally reviewed on 03, 08 - 2008, moved here from incorrect listing under brewpub:
Thanks to Wasatch for including this in a trade:
Pours amber with a slowly descending white head. Some traces of lacing stick.
The smell is of caramel and pale malts with herbal and light citric notes.
The taste is caramelish with plenty of pale malt. Herbal hop presence restrained, but enough to give some balance to the sweetish finish.
The feel is a bit on the weak side, with some fizz.
Overall - a nice, mild, amber.

Should probably just point out to everyone outside of Utah that this was brewed at the Utah Brewers Cooperative under the Squatters label. Yeah I know we are kinda weird.
A: Deep in golden color, with a touch of red.
S: Nice citrus hops pulling through (centennial?) followed by a great coupling of caramel malts.
T: Big on the toasted/caramel malts, the citrus hops pull through giving it the faintest of a lemon zest. Then it finishes with a different nutty? finish. Probably thanks to the chocolate malts used.
M: Medium body, medium carbonation, medium....medium.... medium.
Notes: I have yet to find an amber that just blows me away. But this one is pretty decent.

This arrived with a big, off-white head with good retention throughout. The color was a slightly hazy deep amber. The nose had a light malty sweetness up front, underlain by a light hoppy bitterness. The mouthfeel was medium with a mostly sweet presence on the tongue. The finish had a light dryness, but overall, I was not a huge fan.

Thanks wasatch for this one.
Poured into a pint glass, it shows a very nice amber color, with some golden accents, topped by a white head that quickly drops down to a collar.
Aroma is delicate, but noce, with malts dominating, particularly caramel, along with some hers.
It is medium bodied, easy to drink, but the taste is a bit too delicate, although nice, with some caramel notes along with spices.
It is a nice brew, but I can't avoid my politically incorrect impression that if it wasn't organic it might pack a bit more flavor.

12 oz, courtesy of Wasatch, I see a trend developing.
Poured a dark amber with some coppery brownish depth. Clean off-white head sits down quickly.
Nose is malty, lightly sweet and caramelly with plenty of yeast. Smells of crisp apple and slightly sour grains.
Taste is smooth and light. Slight sweetness in the easy-going malt, balanced with a clean crispness. Flavor recedes with a little yeast and soft bready flavor. Nothing bad here, just overall a bit watery and a little light on taste.
Feel is very nice, with a lighter medium body, rounded by tight full carbonation. Finishes smooth.
Overall drinkability is good. Very sessionable abv, and flavor. Lighter than expected but not a disappointment.

Bottle curtsy of a trade with Washash. Thanks!
A - Copper red with a white head. The foam quickly fades away so you can finish your pour. Not a hazy color.
S - Kinda sweet and malty(?) The smell isn't overpowering but isn't missing either. Kind of an apple- like smell.
T - Sweet and some bitter at the end. Not a huge hit in the face for this beer. Enjoyable but nothing big to it.
M - More of a light mouthfeel. No big aftertaste. Some carbonation and fizz in the feel.
D - Very drinkable and a good beer I could see being sessionable. I could see getting this in a bar out in Utah.
Not the style I drink most, but a good beer none the less.

12oz from Wasatch as an extra in a trade! Big thanks... Poured into my New Belgium snifter.
Aggressive pour produced a 2" head atop a crystal clear amber brew.... a very suprising amount of lacing.. Woo Hoo!
Aroma is hoppy citrus and a little bit less caramel malts.... sorta husky grains with a smidge of toastiness.
Flavor is big on the toasted grains (Victory?).. suprisingly larger malt profile than expected.. hops come into play mid palate with a shotgun of earth .. but quickly die off to more of a nutty finish... with a long lingering toasted biscuit finish... off the wall berry finish as it warms.
I have to be honest, I never expect too much from "organic" brews.. there are just too many restrains on ingredients.. AND.. over the years, I really have not expected too much from many Utah beers... But, in the last few years, the Utah breweries have really made good with what they can do... This is a very good beer and to make it organic makes it better in my mind.

Acquired via trade from Wasatch, so a big Thank You goes out to him. Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a deep copper color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is of caramelized malt, some fruit and a little hops.
T: The taste is decently balanced with flavors of caramel, tea and citrus. There's a good hops presence for the style. The malt character is hearty but not too heavy. The most surprising part about this beer is that it doesn't have any trace of the bite that I've typically found in nearly every other organic beer that I've tried.
M: Smooth and very crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean and dry.
D: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, I would put this beer up there as one of, if not the best organic beer that I've had. Overall, it's a decent beer to drink several of over the course of an evening.

12 oz. twist-capped bottle poured to a pint. No 'best by' date, but this came in December '07, via Wasatch.
A: Crystal-clear amber with a fair amount of carbonation. Off-white head builds to just under a finger but drops quickly to a star-shaped film and slim ring. A few broken lace bands.
S: Malty aroma of wheat bread and a touch of honey and caramel. A bit of buttered biscuits with a little earthy, mineral aroma.
T: Caramel/bready, but with a zesty tang of bittering, including a careful squeeze of lemon. Malts stay sweeter atop the hops, finish is milder caramel and a hint of nuttiness. A well-balanced amber.
M: Springy mouthfeel, notable carbonation despite there being virtually none, appearance-wise. An odd cooling sensation draws in the cheeks a little, a drying finish. I'd call this 'quenching', as this ends quite clean.
D: Very easy to consume and a total lightweight at just 4%. This amber would be a perfect session/lawnmower drinker. Satisfying - thanks, John!
