16oz can into a pint

A - Appears, wait for it, brown. Although it actually runs a little darker than that which might lead one to believe this is more black IPA than brown ale.

S - Strong hoppy aroma, lots of earthy dank hops - trademark OBs - I'm guessing a lot of summit hops.

T - Starts off with hops instead of malts, but a subdued version of what I could sense on the aroma. Mid-stream gets more nutty, toffee, with matching amounts of bitterness. Finishes with some retained graininess and a lingering bitterness.

M - Moderate body, creamy carbonation. No alcohol bite. Smooth and creamy - might be confused with a lighter nitro beer.

O/D - A worthwhile brown ale - just not sure I find it all that interesting. Not because of execution, but rather because that hopping up a brown ale just isn't on my radar. I think the name is somewhat ironic, because I find this to be the 2nd ranked colab with Sun King behind Chaka.

Served this 16 oz. cone top aluminum can in a Sierra Nevada Hops glass. No date. The body was dark brown with cola highlights. the head was medium tan leaving minimal lacing. A thin cap stayed throughout.

The smell was fresh and leafy. Bread crust.

The taste was earthy and rich. Reflects the aroma well. Fresh hops and bread crust. There was a gentle lingering bitterness. Easy to drink, this one disappeared quickly despite the fact that brown ales are among my least favorite style.

The mouthfeel was medium in body/density with a nice prickle on the tongue. Adequate carbonation. Overall very nice.

Review from notes. Pours a mahogany dark brown color with good clarity. A soft white head with good retention.

The aroma is more hoppy than malty. More citrus forward with tropical fruit notes. The malts have a bready malt with a hint of darker astringent malts. A big estery character that is more of a deterrent than anything.

The taste is on par with the nose. Hops up front with limited malt backing. Would like to see more balance. Citrus, grapefruit and pine. Some minor chocolate notes but hidden by esters. Tropical fruits and coconut.

The body is moderate but somewhat sweet in the finish. Carbonation is a bit much but ok. Overall a nice hoppy brown but would like less yeasty notes.

Brown bodied with lots of retained head. Creamy mouthfeel. Lace map. Hoppy aroma. Very citrus hoppy brown, a marriage of sweetish malts and a full IPA with IBUs to spare. Great drinkability. Hit the spot. Top notch American brown.Nicely designed can, looks like a waterbottle or sunscreen, or both. Thanks Jason Bach.

Ppours a deep amber to brown in color with a light tan head. In the aroma, fresh orange citrus hops. In the taste, big and fresh orange citrus hops and a note of caramel malt. A small hop bite and a medium bodied mouthfeel, with a dry, fresh orange citrus hop in the aftertaste. Big hops of orange citrus. Drinks more like an IPA than a brown ale.

16 oz can. Pours dark brown with a smallish creamy off white head that stays at a thin film and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is roasted chocolate malts with some rye notes and some piney hops.

The flavor is sweet chocolate malts with a lot of bitter roast, a little fruit, and a big piney hop finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low carbonation and a little watery.

Overall, similar to a black IPA, but more brown and sweet.

A friend in Boulder shipped this east for me. Heck of a guy. This isn't far from a Black IPA or hoppy porter. There's a lot of smooth chocolate and big biting citrus hops. The body is big and satisfying, but not too heavy or sweet. The aroma has a mix of roasted barley with more piney hops. There are some juicier notes in the flavor, but the beer finishes dry with spice and rind. Find yourself some.

Smooth pour from the aluminum wide mouth nets a very dark brown nearly black body with a tight two finger head that forms creamy bands of lacing on the glass, very attractive beer.

Sweet grapefruit, pine and a few tropical notes drift over a slightly charred and sweet malt profile. Hops dominant, while dark the malt seems rather dormant.

Malt is a very plain dry cereal malt with just enough roast to impart a bittersweet cocoa flavor and nice amounts of char and smoke in the grains as this beer dries. Tropical, orange and pine hop flavors provide most of the flavor profile and carry with a pleasant thriving bitterness. Very straight forward beer.

Creamy mouthfeel and dries really well. Carbonation is tight and dulled down almost a cask or nitro feel to it. Impressive.

A beer that has very little complexities or nuances, it's hoppy brown just as it says on the can. Malt keeps the alcohol at bay and the hops are sweet and juicy, combined with the smooth and creamy mouthfeel this really is an easy one to take down.

Introducing The Deuce, the second CANlaboration project to unite Oskar Blues & Sun King.

The aluminum pint conceals a deep, dark brown colored brew that produces a solid, off-white head and a decent amount of lacing. Hop flavors are strong out of the gate, with floral and citrus notes the most dominate. As the beer warms, sweet chocolate malty flavors begin to mingle with the hopped-up nose. The Deuce starts very hoppy on the palate, but quickly melds into a more familiar nutty, toffee, and chocolate flavors common to a brown ale. A slight bitterness lasts on the finish of this medium-bodied, creamy ale. Hopped Up Brown Ale is right!

Deep, dark ruby brown with a wonderful aroma of hops. It actually smells like that bag of Cascades which homebrewers love sticking their noses into. The foam is a perfect cap with lots of lacing-- it's quite a lovely sight in the Affligem chalice.

Hoppy in a fragrant way. Fairly rich with malt and some caramel. Crisp and flowery with a distinct bitter twang. Browned biscuits and dark malt flavors. A light pear nectar fruitiness warms up the bitterness a little. Definitely in the Oskar Blues mold, but it's less sticky and more quaffable, though still with some malty sweetness on the lips. A little on the dank side for my taste, but it's a nice alternative to the IPA field.

Stays nicely carbonated in the glass as you sip. From the Miller Lite Aluminum Pint bought at Bottleworks in San Diego. I also saw this at Best Damn in four packs.

Poured from can bottle thing into Duvel tulip. Let sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes before pouring.

A: Clean dark brown color with a small off-white halo of a head. Even with an aggressive pour, there wasn't much of a head. I'm ok with that. Looks pretty good.

S: A ton of hops right off the bat. As the beer settles, the sweetness of the malt starts to come out more. I'm picking up some citrus, pine, and chocolate primarily. Pretty nice.

T: The hops take the backseat once you sip. Sweet up front with a pretty solid malt backbone, as would be expected with a brown ale. A lot of the same chocolate with a little bit of that pine from the nose. Pleasant.

M: Definitely drinkable and hides the 7% really well. Could have more than a few of these.

O: Definitely impressed by this collaboration between the breweries. The hops are definitely in the same vein as other Oskar Blues brews, but I have never had a Sun King, so I can't speak to what they do well. That being said, definitely worth a try if you can find it.
