A- Clear copper copper body with a small white head that turns to a foam ring and leaves a light lacing.
A- Citrusy earthy aroma, light sweet malt.
T- Nice bitterness with a citrus grapefruit hop aroma upfront and some piney tastes as well. There is a pleasant malty sweetness, but it stays out of the way of the hops. Leaves a pleasant sweet bitter aftertaste.
M- Medium body, moderate carbonation.
D- An enjoyable IPA, it comes in a can, even better it comes in a tallboy.

Pouts a hazy amber orange color with a frothy white head that leaves a good sheet of lacing.
Smells of caramel malts with some citrus hops.
Tastes of the toasted malts with plenty of hops. Malts lead off with toffee and caramel notes along with some toasted bread. Decently sweet, but it is cut by the hops. A hop wave comes through and adds herbal, citrus, and pine notes. It really leads to a balanced profile overall.
Mouthfeel is medium with a smooth amount of carbonation.
Overall, this is quite a good IPA. I had been avoiding this for no reason, and I regret doing this.

Poured from a 16 oz can into a snifter.
A very thick over two fingers thick tan colored head with excellent retention. Super awesome lacing left by the head. Very sticky. Amber color with some haze. Very calm and without any bubbles. Translucent.
Aroma is good to strong in strength. Fills the nose from some distance. Earthy and ground hops notes. Some herbal and citrus flavors as well. A nice mix of malt and hoppy smell. A little bit of flower here and there. No booze. Strength fades away slightly.
Taste is extremely well mixed up. The hops flavors are lasting, mix and display really well intertwined with malt. Moderate grapefruit, very slight resin touch. Bitter malty upfront, similar middle and bitter towards the end. Finish is moderately bitter.
Mouth feel is medium bodied. Low on carbonation. Well balanced with the necessary tilt towards the hops. No astringency for an IPA. Decent alcohol warmth that is just enough.

Pours a copper orange with a nice white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is pine and citrus. The taste is like the smell, Citrus and Pine hops and Grapefruit. A malt backbone that balances it out. The bitterness is just right for this brew. I was recommend this one and I will now do the same.

Poured from 16oz tallboy can into Globe glass.
A. Pours 2 finger head. Color is dark orange almost brown. Good retention. Thick lacing.
S. Pretty hoppy aroma. Has quite a bit of piney hop smell coming from it. Pretty solid malt base lends some sweetness. Has a bit of alcohol resiny hop aroma. Smells quite a bit like Modus and Furious. 8% is in my mind on the border of IPA and DIPA, and this beer smells like it.
T. First thought is a really smooth beer. While I thought the aroma of this bordered on DIPA, i think the taste might verge on Pale Ale. Nice balance of hop and malt. Get the same piney hop flavor that was in the nose, mixed with some caramel malt sweetness. Bitterness is there, but low which makes me feel like the beer has some Pale Ale qualities. Regardless this is an easy drinking good beer.
M. Medium bodied. Medium carbonation. Finishes with some bitterness on the back of the tongue, and a touch of sweetness.
O. Good beer. Nice balance. If it wasnt for the 8% it would be pretty easy to put down a large quantity of these. Not a very hoppy flavor, but there is plenty of those beers to go around.

A - Slightly murky honey orange, off white head that stays for some time. Lots of cling lace.
S - Very hoppy. I get pine and citrus, with a very distinct malt core.
T - I like malty IPAs. I get my wish with this one. Strong malt center, effectively squashed by the hops. I think malt wins by a hair.
M - Medium to fuller body. Good carbonation. Creamy texture. Malty and probably could have used a little more bitter at the end.
D - I could session this one, no problem.

Purchased from Bine & Vine for $4.19. Poured into Hess willi becher glass.
A - translucent deep copper with a pillowy head that leaves nice sticky lacing
S - dank, caramel sweetness and pine resin.
T - upfront bitterness and pine that lingers and lingers. Straddles the line between sweet and bitter nicely. Grassy and a touch of onion just before the finish.
M - lively carbonation and resiny coating of the mouth.
O - my favorite of Oskar Blues' hoppy canned offerings. Solid change up from the more tropical/citrusy IPAs I've had lately.

Can: Poured a deep amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of floral and bitter hops with light pine notes is quite interesting. Taste is dominated by floral bitter hoppy notes with some light pine notes and clean semi-dry caramel malt. Body is about average with good carbonation and alcohol is well hidden. Not bad but I was expecting an even bigger hops assault.

Compared to regular Dales, the color is nothing new. Deviant Dale's is hoppier too. Color? Nothing new. This is supposedly hoppier.
Lots of citrus notes from the hops. It's what i expected. This isn't an ordinary step up.
Whoaaaa! Citrus overload. Grapefruit and mango are apparent.
Ditto in the taste. Citrus, citrus and more citrus.
Lingering citrus/pine notes. Bit. 'o buttery malt too. Mmmmm.
Fuck, this is Dale Squared. Shit. I love it.

tallboy into large short's pint. Bottom of can reads 'STANDARD OF DEVIATION'.
A- Nice head, thick and creamy, eggshell white. Beer is a bit hazy, burnt orange. Looks pretty good to me.
S- This smells like dank, wet pine and some papaya as well.
T- Hop wallop on the tongue, very lemony and a bit skunk-y (not lightstruck'd). Bitterness is impressive and lingers. Malt sweetness is not insignificant but it still falls to the rear.
M- Alcohol is noticeable, a bit hot. Bitterness is sharp- perhaps a bit too abrasive. Bordering on solvent-y.
O- Meh, looks ok, smells ok, tastes ok, but it's not for me. It's not a bad beer by any means but it does little to excite me. Did not finish.

Can poured into a chalice
A- Cloudy, with a fine, very thin head. Lacing is evident.
s- Tropical, sweet hop profile.
t- Dry, balanced, pine resin and grapefruit hop. Some dank, dark, grassy hops that have qualities similar to Japanese Gyokuro green tea.
m- Dry, full, and balanced. Excellent.
o- Well rounded and a very fine example of a great DIPA. This would rank with Sculpin, Hop Wollop, and Mahajara, but not quite Pliny or Hopslam.

A- Magnificent looking. Near two inch of white head on a ruby red body. Great head retention,
S- Tropical dankish fruits. Mango, maybe some pineapple.
T- Over-the-top "earthy herbal pine rind." Wow. Unmistakable hop presence. Low alcohol detected if only because the hops.
M- Medium mouthfeel, smooth carbonation.
D/O- Very low drinkability. I guess in a crowded field this one sticks out, if nothing else. Would not seek out any more but would drink again down the road. Not for the faint of heart.

Pours a beautiful golden amber with a fluffy off white head.
Nose is pungent citrus, very juicy hop presence. Grapefruit, guava, mango. Some pine underneath all of that. Nice floral finishing aroma.
Taste is exceedingly dank, it really takes over for the citrus notes. A flash of citrus peel in the finish is overcome by a crisp yet sweet bready malt presence that lingers with bitter vegetal hops.
Mouthfeel is pretty slick with a nice bite from the carbonation/alcohol. Medium full.
Overall this is an excellent dipa. love the contrast between the nose and the taste, almost like smelling and then tasting two different beers. Will seek more out.

16oz can
Canned on 4-3-2012 printed on the bottom of the can
A- Poured into a pint glass. Pours a copper color with an off-white head.
S- The aroma is malt and fresh resinous citrusy hops. Very nice, the hops are very nice in the aroma, I can definitely tell this is a fresh can.
T- The taste has some sweet malt and hints of caramel up front with a big dose of fresh hops and alcohol in the finish creating a lingering bitterness.
M- The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation.
O- Overall, Deviant Dale's is a really solid IPA. Glad to try another solid brew from Oskar Blues.

16oz can into Duvel tulip. Didn't check for canned on date (the beer just came out).
Appearance: Free pour yields a 2 inch fizzy, rocky offwhite head that leaves a couple swatches of lacing. Pours an almost clear light copper orange. No lacing to speak of.
Smell: Tropical fruit, with a lemon and orange citrus undercurrent. Much further in the background, pungent hops.
The fruit juice character of the nose is very nice, but I want profound, pungent hops from my hot shot DIPAs. Still gets a 4.0 since the fruit notes are pretty great, and the overall balance is good as well.
Taste: Whoa, there's the dank, pungent, Summit hop hit I wanted from the aroma. Powerful dank weed and melon hops, with a mild burnt toast malt backbone (somewhat high malt sweetness as well, but nowhere near, say, 90 Minute IPA sweet). Notably low bitterness. Subtle citrus flavor accenting the oniony, funky Summit.
Tastes like 1 part Dale's Pale Ale, 2 parts GUBNA, but less bitter. Honestly, I think it's a great combo, and the flavors are really well integrated. Could stand to have more bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and creamy. Low side of moderate carbonation. Slight dryness. Really nice, and a good vehicle for that dominant, marijuana-esque hop flavor.
Overall: I thought that GUBNA with some tropical fruit and citrus would be the best DIPA I'd ever have, but I was wrong. Regardless, Deviant Dale's *does* fix the problems of GUBNA (more palatable fruit flavors to balance the onion/garlic assault from just using Summit hops), and it nails "turn Dale's Pale Ale, with it's fruit juice melange of hops and high sweetness, into an IPA."
A good DIPA, maybe even a great one. Something lacking though... I think it needs to be dryer, and perhaps some more umph to the fruit flavors (they help, but they're also a little afterthought-y). Will buy again though if this becomes year round or more available.

A: Beer has a clear amber glow and a big creamy orange-tinted white head. A pretty beer. Sticky sheets of lace coat my glass above the thin white topping that remains once the head disappears.
S&T: Sweet pungent citrus, dandelions, candied pineapple, sticky pine resin, and hefty malts...bread grain, pizza dough, caramel. Really well balanced aroma and taste. Generous piles of malts and hops alike. A bit of a mouthwatering bitter kick too. Very simple, clean aromas/flavors in this, just in delightfully large quantities. No surprise that this was dry hopped with Columbus.
M: Feels smooth, a wee bit syrupy, soft and comforting, with prickly carbonation throughout. A nice sized medium body has a fuller feel to it.
O: I like it. Very pleasant and enjoyable. Everything comes together great in this. I would gauge this as somewhere between a regular IPA and double IPA... Plenty of hoppy goodness double or not.

Appearance-Orange with 2 finger head that very slowly recedes
Smell-Smells great. Pick-up on some citrus (rinds of oranges/grapefruits). Also, minor smell of grass/earthy hops.
Taste-Out of the 4-pack there seems to be some deviation between cans. Had 3 so far. Two cans were amazing. A very pleasant taste of citra hops/flavor of rinds that matched the nose. Only slight grassy/vegetal hops notes. However, one can was a mess where I picked-up on substantial garlic/onion notes that grew untolerable as the beer warmed.
Mouthfeel-Medium-some resin sticks to your mouth, but it isn't cloying or palette destroying.
Overall-Had I not had the one can that deviated I would provide a higher overall rating. With the price of this at $13.99/4 pack it is pretty well-priced. Also, as far as NYS there aren't alot of other above-average IPAs available in cans that are available in my local bottle shops.

A: Great clear amber color with small amount of white head and small amount of lacing.
S:MM Love this smell! Great cascade smelling citrus hops. Smells like it was quadrupel hopped with citrus hops and that there is pellets floating in the beer! Just my type!
T: Great taste of citrus hops, grapfruit and oranges. Almost a little too much of a bittery finish but all in all, good taste.
M: Mouthfeel is light to medium and moderately carbonated.
O: Overall, this is a good beer. Maybe a little too heavy on the hops - never thought I'd say that by the way.

16 oz can canned on 3-20-12, consumed 3-30-12.
The beer pours an orange-copper color with a medium-sized white head. The aroma is full of resinous pine with a little bit of orange citrus and a little bit of bread mixed in. The flavor is more of the same. I get a ton of dank resinous notes, as well as some orange and some strong pine notes. There is a little bit of bread and toffee, but this one is all about the hops. Medium bitterness. Medium to full mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Canned 4-16-13, so pretty fresh.
A--Light copper, translucent, weak head. Pedestrian.
S--Outstanding aroma of earthy Columbus hops and malt, seems aggressive and complex.
T--Very good but not as complex and interesting as aroma. Fans of balance may love this, the finish is impressive, and the bitter-sweet combo is pretty unique. Ultimately, however, it is not only too sweet, but the bitter and sweet elements combine like a simplistic dichotomy rather than coming together in an interesting way that brings me back for more.
As a fan of hop-forward brews, I prefer Dale's Pale Ale.

Huh... what a well-made, if not unique, IPA from Oskar Blues. I mean, being a malt fanatic, they really allowed a bold yet smooth, plump yet balanced malt body and flavor to stand up against and compliment the requisite citrus-bomb hops.
A: orange and mostly clear, tall off-white (vaguely canary-tinged) head rises high on the pour, coats the glass with broad, sticky bands of lace
S: pungent-spicy citrus-y hops, mellow cookie-ish malt, sub-medium perfumy alcohol... pleasant, but generic
T: surprising showing of wafer-y malt surging up and settling quietly on the palate after each smack of orange/lemon-lime hops - really the fruit flavor is great and distinguishable like that... the bitterness has the proper force (backed by the push of warm booze) yet its bite is only a threat.... if the individual flavors weren't so generic for the style, the taste would be amazing considering how expertly they rendered the ingredients and process
M: again, great balance between its smooth, dextrinous yet swift body and the mellow bite of the hops - it all rolls over the tongue before disappearing 3/4 through.... alcohol certainly factors in - superb comforting warmth without any ounce of bite or burn
O: well done OB! I'll be open to having it again when I'm craving the hops

Canned on 4/04/13.
Glass: Samuel Adams Perfect Pint.
Appearance: Clear orange golden color. A moderate pour produced about three fingers of khaki colored head. A ton! The head stuck around for a longgg time. Lacing coats the sides of the glass.
Smell: Pine dominates. A little grapefruit and orange citrus. Malt lingers in the background.
Taste: As far as a "balanced" DIPA goes, this one is certainly up there on my favorites so far. It has a beautiful sweet character to it, with malt hitting the tongue at first sip, followed by a wonderful hop bitterness that presents itself at first as pine, and then as a tasty sweetness that lingers long after the beer is gone.
Mouthfeel: The body is quite thick for a DIPA, almost syrupy. However, that is combated by the dry finish, high carbonation, and oily texture. Very good.
Overall: This is a great DIPA that strays a bit from the normal big hop bomb by having a somewhat balanced malt character, while still having an extremely tasty hop presence. My new favorite camping beer ... in 16 oz. cans, too!

Love the can art. Just looks mean. 16 oz. can into Good Nature snifter.
A: beautiful. I'm loving nearly everything about this pour. Copper color. Calm carbonation that consistently rises to the head. One finger head that lasts a while with lacing that coats the glass as you work your way through.
S: mild hops and citrus fruit. Nothing too bold or unusual for the style.
T: man Oskar blues just doesn't disappoint. Great balence of hops and malt. I could drink this for days. Very little citrus of any coming through, but that could be due to releasing a lot of the aroma during The pour (ill try it out of the can next time). bitterness that isn't overwhelming and lingers for a while. Resiny and delicious.
M: this beer shines in this respect. Medium amount of carbonation that is very refreshing. very drinkable even at 8 percent. Nice creamy head which works wonderful with the medium body.
O: would recommend, although not sure I'd seek out again. Don't get me wrong it's a great beer, but there are much better IPAs out there that I have yet to try and I know would topple this. Great beer at a fair price. Check it out

The colour is brown-orange-gold (15 EBC), the liquid is clear with some chill-haze. The two-finger head is compact and off-white. Good retention. It leaves lots of lacing, too.
The (almost dense) smell is hoppy and sweet with lots of citric candy and some resin. Grape fruits, lemon peels and tangerines. It is smooth without any harshness.
The taste is bitter-sweet with distinct notes of citric fruits (grape fruits, bitter oranges, lemons, limes) and pine needles and -resin. It is bitter, oh yes but without any sharp or harsh flavours. Full body. The focus in the aftertaste is more on the clean bitterness than the fruits, but the balance is intact. The finish adds some smooth alcohol and hints of minerals.
The carbonation is quite smooth with lots of small bubbles. The liquid is smooth and a bit thick.
A solid IPA with lots of juicy citric fruits.
