can poured in 16oz Goose Island Glass
Appearance: yellowish gold and clear with a chunky thin white head. The lacing breaks up rapidly.
Smell: The malt cuts through on this; corn, grain, breaddy, sweet.
Taste: The corn cuts through on this with a sweet pilsner malt. This is a unique distinctive pilsner. It's very sweet on the forefront, but the aftertaste is awkward,
Mouthfeel: light carbonation and thin bodied.
Overall, This is a good pilsner, but this is not my favorite style of beer. I would not buy this. I only had it because my roomate shared it with me.

bottle into pint glass
Appearance: Clear golden yellow, thick 2 finger white head, lots of lacing for a pilsner
Smell: corn, bread, slight earthy hops (in a pilsner?!?!?!)
Taste: Bready notes with an english malt backbone, subtle earthy hops, just enough to differentiate this from an adjunct lager. For a pilsner, it has a somewhat acceptable flavor profile, could use a little more earthy hoppiness to counteract the corn/bready notes though.
Mouthfeel: Medium to low carbonation, thin bodied
Overall: A very good pilsner, true to the Czech style. I would place this just behind Victory Prima Pils and Staropramen, my benchmark for the style, as my favorite pilsners. For the price, you cannot beat the quality of this beer, it's literally $.50 more than a Bud Light tallboy. Take your typical adjunct pils, and add a little more flavor complexity and this is what you get.

Need I say the color is yellow, but this Pilsner sets itself apart with a thick nearly congealed head.
The scent is quite weak but a bready cereal malt aroma does exist.
There's a reason why Pilsners don't line the BA top 100, as their not very complex.
So this Lil thing needs to be taken for what it is, a very good version of a rather benign genre. Sweet malts, cereal grains and a bready dough flavor dominate a smooth drinkability. Nothing more nothing nothing less.

From a 12 oz can (dated May 17, 2013) into a pils pokal.
A-The brew is yellowish-gold in color and clear. There is a fair amount of chunky carbonation visible, but the head starts thin and drops immediately to an off-white collar. A random finger of lace is left behind.
S-The smell is strangely sweet for a pils with flavors of sweet corn and grain. There is a bit of grass, straw, and a sweet, doughy malt base. Not very refreshing or crisp smelling.
T-The taste also has a pretty significant sweet corn component. There is a mild hop bite here, as well, that provides a bit of floral kick, but this brew is not crisp or dry by any stretch of the imagination.
M-The feel is more weighty and soft than many pils. The carbonation is mild and heft is noticeable.
O-I went through a phase in which I downed a lot of Yella Pils, but now I am not sure why. Consumed cold (at 38 degrees from the fridge), this beer was still not very refreshing or crisp in the manner I would expect from a pils. It is just too sweet and heavy for the style, which hurts in the drinkability category. On the plus side, it does pack flavor...even if the flavors aren't that great.

12oz poured into a shaker pint.
A - Almost clear golden color. Nice carbonation. Head dissipates quickly.
S - First nose yields powerful odor. Not pleasant. Second whiff shows a little more pils malt, but still not pleasant.
T - Starts clean, which I like. But quickly turns to that rough aftertaste. Very heavy in pils character, too much so.
M - Feels light and refreshing. Smell and aftertaste quickly ruin it.
Generally enjoy good pilsners and lighter crafts. Love OB in general, too! This one has high marks, but as my drinking partner says "it tastes like foot."

Reviewed from notes. Poured from 12 oz. can into a Coors Light football-themed pint glass.
A: Clear, brilliant gold to yellow straw. Huge, four-finger fluffy white head and lively carbonation.
S: Pilsner malt, light sulfur, lager yeast, and cracker malt.
T: Light pilsner malt, lager yeastiness, mild noble hop bitterness, and the light sulfur flavors. Clean finish, almost no aftertaste at all.
M: Light body, no alcohol presence, carbonation somewhat lower than it should be.
O: This has been available on the shelves around here for quite awhile and I just hadn't gotten around to trying it. It was good for what it is...though still not my favorite style.

12 oz. can purchased in the greater Washington D.C. area, unknown canning date, poured into my FFF Teku tasting glass , drank on 5/29/13 over an hour.
A: 4.25 - straw golden coloration, high clarity with slight haze when held up to the light, tight white rocky head subtle glass lacing, minimal alcohol legs --> the highlight of this beer for me
S: 3.25 - not picking up much at all...some Saaz/noble hop and slight bready/biscuity aromas are present but very subtle
T: 3.50 - again, not much going on here as well; mild bitterness on the front of the tongue with malt characters predominating in the middle of the mouth
M: 3.25 -light bodied (appropriate for style), 4+% is hidden; high carbonation (again, appropriate for style)
O: 3.50 - I unfortunately had higher expectations going into this pour based on the reputation of Oskar Blues; the greatest applause I can give this beer, unfortunately, is that its an easy-to-drink lawnmower beer; however, it looks better than it tastes, which is mostly bland; I wouldn't purchase this again and would reach for some of the American German-style pils instead

Canned on 04/23/13, consumed on 05/24/13. Nice and fresh!
A - Medium yellow, not much head or carbonation. Kinda disappointed.
S - Medium hoppiness, a little dank, pretty average.
T - Solid, nothing out of this world. Had the sweetness and overall flavor of a Czech pilz, but overall kind of bland. Did have some spice to it, which was definitely noticeable in the aftertaste. Black pepper maybe? That part I really liked. Also seemed to taste a bit better once it warmed up a few degrees.
F - Easy, couldn't feel much of the carbonation, but overall a good feel.
Sort of disappointed. Typically like pilseners, and I did like this beer, but it doesn't stand up to my favorite pils'. Tasted good, especially when it warmed a bit, but nothing that will make me rush out and buy it again.

Into a pilsener:
A: clear bubbly yellow body, bubbles really cling to the sides of the glass, two finger white foamy head rises and leaves a fair amount of nice foamy lacing in its wake and then gently falls
S: grassy, little bit of hay, corn and light hops, but a strong presence of malts comes through as well
T: all previously mentioned flavors combine in a semi-sweet sort of way but comes across fairly light, slight sweet corn aftertaste and a sticky malty finish
M: light, sessionable, carbonation seems really light (under-carbonated a bit, hmmm....unsure)
O: mostly average Czech Pilsener, nothing to scream about, but would probably have again perhaps with food

Had this on tap at Legal Harborside. This was a decent pilsner for a nice warm summer say. The taste was very crisp and light. The appearance was a bit hazy for a pilsner, but it still looked tasty. No real taste in my opinion other than a touch of malt, which is kinda nice sometimes. The scent was a touch dank, so not my favorite part of this beer. Not my favorite pilsner, but a nice effort.

It comes in a golden yellow color with a yellowish head.
The aroma has grassy hops and some lemon.
The flavor has a nice grassy flavor and slight bitterness. There's a bit of spice in there. However, there is a wheat or corn sweetness with the malt character. It's quite malty.
It does not have the cleanness as the Czech pilsners that I prefer. It's quite a decent beer, but lacks the lager cleanness that I prefer.

Had on tap in a pint glass.
Pours a clear medium gold with a one finger white head.
Aroma of wet grass and hay with a little bit of corn thrown in. A nice noble hop aroma is pleasant but a bit weak.
Grass and corn flavor with more behind it than the aroma. A nice sharp hob bitterness along with a nice cris clean mouthfeel and quick finish.
Overall, a nice but pretty basic pils. Really doesn't quite stand up to the likes of Pilsner Urquell or Budvar in my opinion.

on tap at a bar in a shaker glass. decent white head that stayed for a couple minutes then dissipated as drinking commenced. not much aroma, not much in the way of hops on the nose. bready, malty up front. not so pleasant bitterness at the end. It's Ok, but there are much better examples.

12 ounce can
Served in a Stange glass
A - Cloudy pale yellow with about 2 finger of white head. Average carbonation rising bottom of the glass.
S - The smell is very similar to most lagers but more prevailing with a slight citrus/lemony/apple aroma.
T - Medium sweetness with a taste of lemon with a slight pepper.
M - Moderate to thin but creamy feel. Dry finish.
O - This is a new style for me (unless you count the adjunct lagers from the BMCs in the past) so I don't know if this is a comparatively good version of this style, but I am very pleased with this beer.

Canned on 2/12/13. 12oz can poured into a flute. Pours a transparent pale golden, fluffy white head that sticks around and leaves nice lacing. The aromas are full of crackers and malts. There's a subtle floral hop aroma, but it's basically non-existent, which is to be expected. The flavors make sense, it's just a little safe. It tastes like your typical pilsener. There's hints of black pepper, giving it a decent spiciness. Very earthy. Mouthfeel is great, just like most of Oskar Blues' beers. It's light with active carbonation. It's also creamy and smooth, making for an easy drinking experience. Alcohol obviously goes unnoticed. This would hit the spot during the warm weather.
Solid pilsener. First time having it. Nothing mindblowing, but it serves its purpose.

Tallboy can. Kick. Ass.
A: Poured from 19.2 oz can into stemless champagne flute. Pale straw. Lightly hazy, with lively carbonation. Two fingers bleached white head. Fairly quick dissipation. Minimal lacing.
S: Malt dominant, with lightly sweet biscuity notes. Hops are clean. Lemon, herbal and noble, but not quite as spicy as most Czech pilsners.
T: Mildly sweet front of milled cereal grain. Mid palate of lightly honeyed bread. Rough, almost rustic finish of mild floral bitterness. Floral bitterness carries into the aftertaste to accompany the cereal sweetness. Spicy element is present as the beer warms, but it's a bit too subtle.
M: Runs towards the creamy side of pilsners. However, it does have a pleasing surge of carbonation on the finish to balance things out.
O: Misses the mark for me. The overly subdued noble spiciness and cereal like tones don't quite agree with my palate.

A - It is pale yellow in color with about one finger of white head. A steady flow of carbonation rises from the etching of the bottom of the glass.

A nice very yellow color, clear, a good head but it didn't last, and not too much lacing.
Smelled of a mix of grains, hops, and various malts.
Tasted pretty darn good, I like this stuff. A nice complex malt backbone is accented nicely with some tangy hops and citrus.
Feel is just what I like in a pilsner, light, easy to drink, and bubbly.
Overall it's a great beer for fishin' and pretty darn tasty stuff. Another good product from OB.

I picked this up at the Binny's store in Bloomingdale, IL as part of a build-your-own 6 pack for $9.99, making it $1.67 for a single 12oz can. No freshness date.
Other than being too hazy for the style, this beer looks pretty good. It pours a hazy pale yellow color with a big 4-finger fluffy white head that hangs around awhile and leaves lots of nice lacing.
The smell reminds me of walking thru the Budweiser plant down in St. Louis. It was like getting a whiff of the air around the brewery. Lots of cooked cereal grains and pale malt. Not unpleasamt at all.
Lots of grain and pilsner malt flavor with a touch of spiciness to it. The Saaz hops add a mild bitterness for balance.
Somewhere between light and medium in bidy with medium carbonation.
This is a decent canned beer.

Mama's Little Yella Pils doesn't fool anybody on the pour - bright and vibrant straw-yellow with a medium haziness to it. The white cap settles quick but leaves a few lines of lacing near the top of the glass. Pretty refreshing looking beer.
The aroma is actually a bit more sweet than bitter, typically not the case for "Czech Pilsners". Usually the musky and leafy hop aromas take over, but this thing is loaded with sweetness that smells an awful lot like corn. Yup, big-time corn presence. Kind of malty, but just a light sweetness from the pilser malts. Hops are there, but not really "out-and-about"... kind of just hidden a bit. Slightly musty and earthy. Definitely hops of the Noble variety, but perhaps not enough of them. Overall, a mild and quiet aroma.
Sweet corn also leads the way for the taste profile, hitting quick and fast. Hops come gliding in after the initial sip; earthy, musky, and surprisingly more bitter than I was expecting. The bitterness sits on the palate for a bit as it fades into the finish with a slightly corny and floral aftertaste. Lots of yeast is noticeable in the finish, as well, although it isn't incredible standoutish. Not exactly packed with flavor, but not bad, either. It's got a nice sweet-to-bitter gradient that plays on the palate quite nicely. Thin bodied, not quite full enough to be called medium yet, with lots of carbonation. Nice, crispy mouth feel that is expected of most pilsners.
Have I had better pilsners? Yeah. But this one certainly isn't bad. I don't know if it should be labeled a "Czech Pilsner", though. But it makes for a pretty damn good American Pale Lager. IMO, this is what New Belgium's "Shift" Pale Lager was trying to be. I'd take this over that one any day. Would be great for long, hot days out in the sun.

Pours a clear pale gold with many tiny bubbles ascending into a thick white head that settles slowly and leaves behind plenty of pretty white lace. Aroma is crisp and of sweet cereal and some faint hops in the background. Flavor is of crackers and a refreshing snap of bitterness. Mouthfeel is appropriately light-medium. This is what a bud or miller wants to be when it grows up.

12 oz. can, bottom of the can reads canned on 12/19/2012 @ 11:58, NO STEMS NO STICKS. Sounds like something I've heard before, but never regarding beer. Attractive plain simple styled can, and an attention grabbing name. Excited to try this beer, my third from Oskar Blues Brewing Co.
Poured into a Firestone Walker pint glass.
A - Moderately aggressive pour yields about two and a half fingers of fizzy fluffy doughy white head. Light murky lemon yellow colored body, with the tiniest amount of bubbles lazily floating to the top. Scattered spotty lacing.
S - Smells like malts and fresh roasted corn husk. Nothing complicated arising from this one, but smells delicious, and right on the mark. Authentic, natural corn kernel aroma, as opposed to sh**ty artifical adjunct ingredients.
T - Typical malty / corn pilsner type taste, although less bloating and carbonated than the typical swill that permeates the market. And a much more natural and authentic corn kernel type taste, as opposed to artificial adjunct crap ingredients. Crisp, clean, and delicious. A sugary, fruity green apple skin presence emerges as this beer warms.
M - Crisp, clean, smooth. Fruity apple / sugary type notes linger. Slight tart cheap champagne like carbonation, like most pilsners I have encountered. Highly drinkable stuff, though.
Overall, a beer I would definitely drink again. Not the most complex beer by Oskar Blues Brewing Co., but a fine representation of it's style. Crisp & clean, lightly bodied, and superbly well-balanced with a gracious 5.30% abv, a quaffable and sessionable beer.

I picked up a can of Oskar Blues Mama's Little Yella Pils last week for $1.69 at The Lager Mill. I'm still working my way through Oskar Blues lineup, I haven had a Pilsener in a while so this one seems like a good choice, lets see how it goes. Canned on 2/22/13. Poured from a 12oz can into a Pilsener glass.
A- I like the way this can looks, its got a nice clean look to it. It poured a nice and bright yellow color that took on a nice golden hue when held to the light with two fingers worth of of white head that died down to a thin ring that stayed till the end and it left some nice spotty lacing behind. This is a good looking Pilsener, there's not a thing wrong with the way it looks.
S- The aroma starts off with a lower amount of medium sweetness followed by loads of malts that impart a nice bready and biscuit like aroma that seems to stick out the most. Up next comes the hops which are on the lighter side and impart a grassy and slightly earthy hops aromas. The aroma was ok, it was pretty clean but the malts seems to be too dominate and the hops aromas barely came through, it's a little weak on the hops for a Pilsener's aroma.
T- The taste seems to be pretty similar to the aroma and it starts off with a lower amount of medium sweetness that had a real slight honey flavor to it followed by loads of malts that imparted lots of bready and biscuit like aromas with the bread aromas sticking out the most. On the finish there's a light earthy and grassy hop flavor followed by a pretty light amount of bitterness. I thought the taste was just slightly above average, the malts were nice but too dominant for the style and it would be nice if the hops imparted a little more flavor and some noticeable bitterness.
M- Smooth, clean, crisp, a little on the dry side, lighter bodied, with a nice amount of medium bitterness. The mouthfeel was very good and it was pretty true to style.
Overall I was little let down with this beer and I thought it was pretty close to being an average Czech Pilsener, the malts were nice but the hops were lacking in aromas, flavors, ans bitterness which made this beer unbalanced for the style. This beer had good drinkability, it was smooth, clean, and not filling, but the flavors didn't really hold my attention, I wouldn't want another one right now, but I could see this being a decent lawn mower beer in the summer. What I liked the most about this beer was the mouthfeel, it was really good, it worked well with this beer, and it was pretty true to style. What I liked the least about this beer was the lack of balance and hop character, more hops flavors and bitterness would really help this beer out and make it truer to style. I don't think I would buy this again, this might be nice to have a couple on the disc golf course, but at that point I would probably be better off saving some money and drinking an AAL instead, I can't say I really recommend this beer, but if I had a friend who wasn't that in to craft beer, I would offer him one of these. All in all this beer was a little bit of a let down, it just didn't have the bitterness and balance that I look for in the style. So far this is my least favorite beer from Oskar Blues, I just wasn't a fan of this, but I'm still hopeful that they make a beer that I will really enjoy, better luck next time guys.
