This beer was pretty awful. I was expecting something close to a Hoegaarden, but it tasted just like a Blue Moon. Very sticky sweet and way too fruity. The appearance and the mouthfeel were good, but that's about it. I did not care for this beer at all, and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Clarification: Label reads MaDonna White Beer, Traditional Belgium Brew. Great witbier, would make a nice summer session brew. Pours a nice pale golden color that appears to glow in my glass, minimal head and lacing. The beer looks thick and the bubbles take their time floating to the top thus emphasizing that this is a take it easy brew. There is a crisp floral aroma with citrus flavors of grapefruit and lemon along with an earthy tone. The flavor is remarkable and unlike any other Belgium style I have sampled. The first wave of flavor are the citrus fruits, followed by some well balanced wheat malts. The citrus notes come back again but bring a sour quality that really creates a nice easy flavor. The mouthfeel is crisp and full, the finish is sweet and sour. I enjoyed some of these during the early spring season and it really deemed itself as an appropriate beer for enjoyable weather. A Romanian beer with a different approach to the Witbier style that is well played.

Poured out a yellowish gold. Not too much of a head to brag about although I don't think this style of beer is supposed to have much head. Smell is pretty much average with hints of sugary lemon and citrus fruits. I'm pretty stern on this because Witbier is one of my favorite styles. To me the taste is off by a long shot. Maybe its's their interpretation from the brewer, but it has too much of a sharp lemonade taste like you get at the fair. Slightly medium mouthfeel. Not too drinkable in my opinion. You may like it you may not.

I had this at Brickskeller in D.C after my girlfriend ordered it and snubbed it. I too found it disgusting. Perhaps I am just not accustomed to this style (witbier) but this tasted like flat Mountain Dew. The colour was neon yellow and the head was ultra white, honestly it looked like a lemon meringue pie from a middle of nowhere greasy spoon. The mouthful was light and watery. Personally I would not recommend this beer to my worst enemies.
Slainte.

Edit: 30 April 2013, I have since had many, many Wit beers, traveled to Belgium and have vastly expanded my palate. I still find this beer gross. That is all.

Cheers

Had this at a tasting in DC. It's slightly hazy and bright yellow- too yellow. The nose is yeasty and lemony. Taste is way over the top on lemon. Not tart lemon, but sugary lemon. Maybe some apple and wheat in there too, but overwhelmed by lemon. It's not awful, just weird. Mouthfeel is actually pretty decent, but drinkability is limited.

MaDonna pours a hazy golden body beneath a short lid of creamy bright white foam that fades shortly and leaves little lace about the glass. The nose, however, is much more exciting with juicy, subtly-tart fruit and lightly sweet, wheatish malt backed by flowers and delicate spice. It's light, and gently crisp on the palate before smoothly sliding away. The flavor delivers everything the nose promises, with its sweet, lightly-wheatish malt and mildly tart fruit (citrus, apple, grape) working perfectly together. It's balanced by a mild bitterness, and it finishes dry with a quick flash of delicate tartness followed by some lingering, sublime spice. Quite refreshing!

A - Pours golden and cloudy. The head is puffy, white and dissipates fairly quickly.

S - Smells like lemon and dull yeast. A bit discouraging.

T - The taste is certainly different. Very lemony, with a wheat malt foundation. Has a sour kick. The aftertaste takes a while to kick in, but it's pleasant and almost candylike. Has more of a lemonade feel than other witbiers.

M - Light- to medium-bodied with good carbonation.

D - It's refreshing and I'd have another one, but some might be turned away by the prominent lemon.

I've had this beer sitting in my fridge for awhile and thought I'd give it a whirl. It's, uh, pretty weird. Tastes kind of like that cheese powder my brother puts on his popcorn. There's some spice in there, but I can't really tell what it is. Combine the taste with a dusky pondwater appearance and you have a rather unappetizing beer. I won't go so far as to say MaDonna is BAD, but it's certainly not to style and will probably scare your Hoegaarden-loving girlfriend.

Golden yellow color, expected cloudiness and a small lingering head. Decent lable art.
Spicy citrus aroma, hint of yeast.
Taste is high on citrus, no need to add a slice of lemon to this one. Light malt flavor and perhaps a bit of hops, but citrus dominates the pallette.
Drinkability a little higher due to the fact that there is nothing offensive about my bottle. I'd have it again.

Poured a xcloudy apricot color with massive white puffy head. Smell is very light with a touch of tropical fruit present. Taste is fruity sweet, almost like a Seagram's cooler. Refreshing, yet very unrewarding. Very easy to drink, like a glass of lemonade. Is this beer?

Vomit inducing. This was horrible wheat beer. Overly done citrus bomb with some sulfur for the all out hell effect. I poured after a gentle shaking as directed on the back of the bottle. The color was a cloudy white-yellow, with a fast dissapearing head. The smelled warned me with a big waft of sulfur and citrus. Bad yeast? Lemon pledge? The taste was just as bad I could get some wheatyness out of it and I finished half the glass with dinner, but I dumped it out after as the lack of food only made it worse. Well cross this one of the list for now. I really like Romania too.

Appearance: Very dissappointing for a Witbier. Instead of a wheat coloring, it almost looked like a pale. It was rather clear for a Witbier.
Smell: Lemon citrusy aroma- but not in a good way, almost smelled like lemon dishsoap.
Taste: Average at best. But overall weird for this style. I swear there is an initial presence of bitterness and hops, but then finishes with a strong lemon taste.
Mouthfeel: The hops presence makes this seem heavier than normal.
Drinkability: Not a chance of ordering another one after this. The weird combination of flavors os just not sitting right.

Pours a hazed pale golden color. Massive three finger head slowly sinks to a dense, creamy white cap and leaves spotty lacing. A citrus spice scent is prodominant here, more like fresh oranges than the rind, and some wheat and yeast aromas just pull through. Pale wheat malt and sweet citrus turns to an acidic grapefruit flavor in the aftertaste. Snappy and crisp taste, with a delicate balance, but becomes sour and astringent near the finish. This reminds me of a soda called 50/50, light bodied and moderatly carbonated, this could be smooth and refeshing if not for the nagging off-flavor.

Pours a pure white three finger head that goes slowly and leaves a good lace. Cloudy pale amber color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Nose yeasty and hoppy. Starts sweet and citrusy, the yeast is there, smooth, clean finish. 330ml bottle gift, available from Vintage Cellar Blacksburg, Va.

Bottle says to shake gently before opening on back label. That advice was followed.

The beer poured into the chalice lightly hazy with a low and very quickly retreating white head that lingered slightly at the edges of the surface of the beer.

The aroma was floral with coriander and chamomile coupled with a light orange and tangerine aroma that seemed almost soapy. Very similar to the artificial citrus aromas in household cleaners.

The flavor was intially sweet on the palate with a bit of orange and a low amount of coriander. There was some wheat present but it was low and in the background.

The finish was dry with a lasting pleasant orange citrus and very light spice. The body was just below medium. The finish and mouthfeel were definitely the best parts of this brew. The light citrus and spice that last long into the aftertaste were well done and something every wit should aspire to. The aroma was forced and the flavor lacking.

11.2 ounce bottle. Dating is code 405042.

1/02/05- Purchased at Girardelli Square in San Francisco, CA

Presentation- 11.2 oz stubby bottle with no date. Poured into a random pint glass.

Appearance- Big poofy white head that rapidy disintegrates. Decent lacing and a yellow-white pour.

Smell- Whoa! Lots of citrus fruit here. Maily lemon, lemon and maybe a bit of lemon?

Taste- Like a Hoegaarden on lemonade crack. Way to sweet. Maybe if it was 90 degrees outside and I had a pool, I would enjoy this. Not in 45 degree rainy weather. A bit metallic and medicinal at the same time

Mouthfeel- Very carbonated, but creamy and smooth at the same time. Still like drinking carbonated lemonade with extra sugar.

Drinkability- Why don't you just call this hard lemonade and sell the recipe to AB or something. There is something, though I don't know what, that I like about it.

This beer is a lightly hazy yellow color with a small and bubble white head that disappeared quickly. Nil lacing. Citrus and stale malt in the nose. Light-bodied and very carbonated, with flavors of yeast, lemon and sour grapes. Not really a great combination. The finish is lightly sweet and does not last. Definitely a below average Wit.

Belgian style Wit out of Romania.
Pours a hazy golden colour with a fairly white frothy head that sticks a bit then disolves into a white film on top. Aroma of citrus and solvents. Here is where things go wrong..

Taste.. What is this I am drinking!!! Lemon beer? This taste like beer with fake lemonade added. The citrus is so overpowering it is hard to take and adds an acidic sweetness to it that just overpowers everything. I know Wits have a citrusy note to them, but this was like someone squeezed concentrated lemon juice in my beer. There was none of the Coriander spice to note. My wife had two sips and commented that it was worse than Busch beer.

Mouthfeel- Decent carbonation and such, but the taste just leaves a nasty taste and film on the tongue and palate.

Drinkability.. honestly This is one of the least drinkable beers I have ever had. Maybe I expected to much but It was a drain pour. Halfway through I had to chuck it. The taste lingered in my mouth and in burps. Thank god I had a Stone Ruination to burn that aweful memory from my taste buds. I would avoid this like the plague.

I don't really know what to say about this beer. Is this a beer? It seemed like it was an overly tarty lemonade. No joke, straight lemonade. I followed the directions and shook the bottle gently. The pour was a lemony color with a good amount of yeast suspended in the middle of my drink. The taste had an initial sweetness but it soon turned into a strong lemony tartness. There was a mild yeast backbone to it as well. This beer had no spices which is odd for the style. It was quite refreshing as I drank it in the humidity and heat but I don't think I would like in under any other circumstances.

Appearance: Light colored slightly hazed golden straw color with a nice sized spritzy white head not much lacing to be seen here, first beer from Romania this ones for my Romanian aunt, Roxanna. Aroma: Very citrusy lemony with some mild spiciness and sweet wheat malts. Taste: Some tones of lemon zest finishes a bit tart but overall a nice take at a belgian style wit not bad at all clove and soft vanilla tones add to the sweetness. Mouthfeel: Light to medium body very spritzy carbonation tickles the palate. Drinkability: Decent I'm sure this one's a hit in Romania, but I wouldn't go through the extra trouble of hunting this one down I would settle for Hoegaarden.

This beer sports a hazy yellow color with gold/orange highlights. There are aromas of staled, ground coriander, lilac…Robust. Pretty. The flavors fit into a scheme of tangy orange candy and metal. Sweet, slippery texture. A little too sweet for me. Not quite sweet enough to cover the metallic edges.
