One of my favorite craft beer/ locally sourced joints in SD. If you are in the mood for some southern cooking, this is your place. Great handmade reclaimed wood bar.
Beer selection is always varied- they often have Cali beers sourced outside of San Diego. Think Temecula, Orange County, Kern River, etc. Usually one option on cask. Bottles are s$1-2 overpriced. Limited wine selection.
The food is nearly perfect- just a touch pricey, serving sizes not as big as I would like. But that might be me wanting more. Their beer dinners are immaculate.
Gumbo is highly recommend. All of the pizzas are incredible.

Located in a very, very gay area, didn't really bother me but it might for some. But the bar itself wasn't too bad. We went cause they had Double Coffee Speedway on cask as well as Tart of darkness.
It isn't a huge place, there are about 15-20 taps, a decently good selection too. Didn't see a bottle list but the taps were good enough for me. Had a slice of pizza and it was good.
The service was alright though the bartender busted like 12 glasses right in front of us. Prices were reasonable, a decent stop if you check taphunter and see something you like.

This is my favorite beer-related eatery in San Diego. They are celebrating their first anniversary June 29, 2012. The contemporary space in a Fifth Ave storefront is relatively quiet, pleasant, and comfortable. The bartenders are invariably polite, knowledgeable, and happy to share beer tips as well as provide tastes.
While the beer list is not gigantic, it's always well chosen. I have very often encountered lesser-known breweries and special releases. There is always something interesting to try. Focus is on California breweries include Craftsman, Cismontane, Bear Republic, Firestone, Drake's, Eagle Rock, Telegraph, Knee Deep, as well as locals Ballast Point, Hess, Manzanita, Bruery, and the usual bigger San Diegans.
They also host beer dinners with the brewers. We went to the one with Hess Brewing last year. A friendly crowd takes over several tables, several courses served with different beers, and the brewers wandering around to chat. These are quite elaborate but informal and well worth the price if you're able to spring for a special dinner.
The constantly-changing menu is Creole-inspired, so they often have gumbos with unusual ingredients as well as the popular oyster po boy. The menu includes oddball small pizzas and salads, plus interesting small plates featuring fish, shrimp, sardines, rabbit, pork belly, to name a few. Other items people order a lot are the braised brussels sprouts with mustard sauce and the mac and cheese.
It's really the only place for a beer in the entire interesting neighborhood of Hillcrest, but you're on your own for parking. The area is worth a stroll and you can ride the 3 or 11 bus from downtown.
