Left Bellwoods very thirsty and frustrated. Had a timeframe to shoot up there and grab a bite to eat and sample some of their beers which appeared to be off the beaten path. When we arrived we were told we would have to wait 5 to 10 minutes. Thinking, let's go to the bar I soon realized the bar itself had no room at all as it was about 10 feet long. HHHmmmm... Brew-pub with no where to drink a beer.... Then the hostess warned us to back up next to the entrance as we were blocking them from working. Had a fun time standing guard in the doorway and watching people drink. To seal the deal I looked right in front of me and ever so painfully watched some guy sitting at a table of four, no food, no beer, working feverishly away at his crossword puzzle. We left, I felt embarrassed as I with with company.
a. sell beer and ditch the restaurant - so people can actually walk in, stand there and drink it OR
b. open up a bigger place. or let me brainstorm, how about a patio - it was 65 and sunny. (or brew off premise)
It appears that they are truly trying to make a good product, but if people can't try it then all I can say is good luck. Are they a brewery or a pseudo hip urban bar?

Love, love, love Bellwoods Brewery.
Showed up on a Wednesday night to discover an all but packed pub. There was a really nice seating area outside, but it wasn't occupied save for two or three people at one picnic table. There were a few heaters out there, so it actually wasn't all that bad.
A spot opened up at the bar, so I hopped in, and started chatting with the bartender a bit. She was a very nice girl, who you could tell knew her beer.
The first beer I tried was their session stout. A dry irish stout pushed with nitro, that clocked in at a mild 3.5% or so. Very, very good. Some nice oat crispness, with a touch of roast. I liked that it was poured on nitro, as the nitrogen gave it some added body, as it could have come off a bit light I'm sure without.
I then started chatting up the young gentlemen next to me, and as it turns out, he was born in the U.P. of Michigan. Well hello. He was a total beer geek as well, so we ended up sampling some of the bottles from their reserve board. Excellent choices.
The Collaboration with Jeppe from Evil Twin was fantastic, No Sleep Till Brooklyn. A sour stout aged in thrid or fourth run Cognac barrels. Very little barrel character, all sour funky roasty goodness. A great choice.
The second was Three Minutes to Midnight...a barrel aged stout in Cognac barrels. Again, very good. Some real jammy notes from the cognac barrel.
The vibe of this place was fantastic. Stopped by two different occasions, and both were full of friendly, upbeat young people. I didn't have the opportunity to try any food, but heard it's good.
Again, a great new beer spot in Toronto. These scene is growing, and in a good direction. Bellwoods is an awesome addition!

Been a few times now, always been very impressed both with the quality of beer and guest taps. There beer is excellent and a fun outdoor patio setting that is always got a great buzzing atmosphere. Food is very high quality, with roasted duck hearts and other charcuterie and the sort, makes for a really nice experience. They just opened a retail store to the side and its a place I like to show visitors to toronto. Service is really good, prices are a bit much but what you are getting is really unique and two steps above most of the other beer places in the city.
