Served on tap at the brewpub

Hours very dark and black in the glass with a one finger brown head. The nose on the beer is strong of freshly brewed coffee. The beer is very coffee forward. It also has a massive roasted malt backbone which compliments the coffee well. There isn't any hop flavor but there is a refreshing bitterness that adds to the beers drink ability. A solid breakfast stout, won't be putting founders out of business but a great offering.

this one came across a bit thin to me, but other than that its a pretty tasty brew. the pour is plenty dark with a nice mocha head on it. the nose is straight drip coffee, bitter, especially with the dark malts in there and a dark chocolate essence. the flavor is all of the above, with the coffee being pretty intense all the way through. there is a strange acidity to this though that really makes it hard to have more than one or two of, but again, the flavors are nice and balanced. the feel is just too thin for a big stout. it is watery and undercarbonated, which really brings it down for me. it needs a nice fuller oatmeal body to cut down some acid and make it stick. still, the flavors are good and the caffeine hit is definitely there. a couple of these is plenty. maybe a nitro tap would help it also...

On tap at Freshcraft at lunch per recommendation of the server. Arrived in a pint glass. Deep rich black with heavy brown edges, a nice 1.5 finger mocha head with extremely impressive retention and lacing. Looks great. The nose is more mild than anticipated but good. Roasted malts with a kiss of coffee. Often these coffee stouts are too domineering with the coffee, not this guy, gentle. The flavor brings a bit more coffee but not too much just right. A nice roast base. Smooth and creamy and tasty! Good carbonation. Overall, very enjoyable. Not a punch in the face of coffee, perfect blend with the roast. Good stuff!

A - Pours pitch black with a tight mocha head. Retains very well. Sheets of lacing.

S - Roasted coffee, dark malt, toasted rye.

T - Follows the nose. Dry roasted coffee beans, slightly sour, toasted rye bread. Hints tang and dry on the finish.

M - Soft and super creamy, low carbonation.

Big time coffee flavors. A perfect beer for breakfast. Not super complex but very enjoyable.

A - Poured out a jet black color with ruby highlights. There was a very small, tan head of bubbly foam. It left little to no lace.

S - Not much of a shocker, this one smelled like coffee, tons of coffee! I couldn't catch much else other than delicious roasted coffee beans.

T - Strong coffee flavor with some toasted beadiness. There was a slight citrus bitter kick.

M - It was smooth and soft with a dry finish. A medium bodied stout that is a slow sipper.

D - This is a good breakfast stout. It doesn't pull any punches with the coffee flavor.

Holy crap! Wow, coffee much!? This is the stout that I've always wanted when I've purchased or tried anything that says 'coffee' on it. They seem to have put as much as you possibly can in this without over doing it. Very skillful.

A - Black. Long lasting tan head. Looks like a cup of espresso!
S - COFFEE
T - COFFEE. Sweet. Dry. Toasted bread. not super complex or anything, but has a full range of coffee. The coffee certainly dominates, but that's the point.
M - Clean
D - Good! I guess I could have another pint.

I had a pint of the Breakfast stout with my pizza which wasn't the best combination. But this brew probably doesn't go well with many dishes. This beer is the most coffee tasting beer I have ever had. And I don't see it pairing well with much other than maybe fish.

One of the selling points is the drinkability of this beer, where some breakfast stouts are too heavy, this beer is very thin and easy to enjoy. Which is good and bad I know, because this isn't the right type of mouth feel. This is more of a porter to me than a stout.

I know I kinda of knock this beer in the review but I gave it good marks. My reason for this is because I like the brew but I don't believe it is true to it's style.

Served on-tap in standard pint glass.

Poured bascially black, with a large, thick, creamy dark tan head that retained for quite some time. Pours a lot like Guinness or similar stout with the bubbles seemingly travelling down the glass.

The nose is dominated by a dark roasted coffee smell. This was so prevalent in this sample that I honestly didn't notice any other obvious smells.

Taste was the same, all about the coffee. Didn't notice any real sweetness...but some coffee and/or dark toasted malt bitterness comes through in the finish.

Not as full bodied as you would expect, certainly not heavy, which makes it the kind of beer I could at least have a couple of in one sitting.
