The cork broke while trying to open the bottle. I had to use a corkscrew to open. It pours a dark amber with plenty of cloudiness. Starts with a lumpy head that leaves some spots on the glass.
Malty with moderate brown sugar smell. Yeast and alcohol also waft up to the nose. Some light hop in the background.
Plenty of yeast bite up front on the taste. Reminds me of my high-alcohol homebrews. More malt than hop. Light smokiness. Highly carbonated especially for a Belgian style Dark. The aftertaste is a lingering blend of alcohol, light pepper and the aforementioned yeast.

First had: on tap at Night Shift
Brewed with cherrywood smoked malts (my favorite kind of smoked malts), juniper berries and hopped with Cascade.
Hazy mahogany pour with a healthy cap of off-white head; moderate retention and lacing. Pine and citrus notes in the nose, a touch of smoke. Good balance in the taste, bready yeast, smoked meat (not too strong), a tad citrusy and resinous, with the juniper keeping well enough in the background. Medium body, moderate carbonation. Not something I'd go back for, but overall it's good for what it's good for, and if the ingredients appeal to you, don't hesitate to try it.

Batch #1, bottled on 12/23/12.
A: Brown, hazy. Thick off white head.
S: A decent hop presence comes out in piney and citrus notes.
T: Again, it's hoppy but balance well with the malts they used. A slight touch of smoke from the smoked malts, but very far from a rauch. Some spice in there, I think they used Juniper.
M: Like most of Night Shifts beers it is well carbonated.
O: I was a little hesitant when I found out they used smoked malts but after tasting it I'm no longer scared. It's great. Loved the hoppiness of this beer.
