Appearance: Yellow-orange body, delicately hazed, with a moderately-sized, white head.

Smell: Faintly toasted white bread slices gently soaked in citrus juices with supporting notes of grain, caramel, and flowers.

Taste: Opens with bready pale malted barley with a thin glaze of sweet caramel. Floral, citrusy hops yielding tones of lemon, tangerine. Medium degree of hop bitterness. Drying and endearingly fruity on the back half and through the near-crisp finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-plus carbonation.

Overall: Reasonably malty, fruity hop profile, refreshing and nicely carbonated. If the Burnt Hickory Brewery was a country its chief export would be smiles.

16oz growler, kegged November 28, 2012. Served at around 45F.

Pours slightly hazy amber with a two finger white head that leaves impressive rings of clumpy lacing and holds a good cap.

Aroma is mandarin oranges, melons, fruity, citrus, a bit of banana, belgian yeast character, unique. Very good strength.

Flavor is more mandarin orange, citrus, belgian yeast, banana, melons, bready malt with a bit of caramel, mild alcohol, moderate sweetness, moderate bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, a little sticky, somewhat creamy, good carbonation.

Very nice Pale Ale, very unique. Is this fermented with Belgian yeast or just a very fruity example of the style? Dunno, but it’s good.

A - Deep straw coloe, white lace that recedes quickly to the rim of the glass

S - Grainy malt dominates with balanced (if slightly underwhelming) hop aroma with general citrus characteristics

T - Again, grainy malt hits first. There seems to be a slight astringency, possibly from grain, but feels more like alcohol, maybe a hotness... Hops really seem present just to balance the beer and not necessarily to play. A little sweet, but balanced but firm bitterness.

M - reminds me of SNPA, god weight, although can become heavy and slightly sticky. Again, there's a slight astringency that persists

O - decent pale ale, fairly clean other than slight, very slight astringency/alcohol heat issues. I would prefer more hops, but this is certainly appropriate for style.
