the appearance is ok, with and opaque golden color, two fingers of creamy foam and a ship and wheat in the logo;
the smell is citrus, some essences of wheat, banana and orange;
there's a lot of wheat in the taste and some banana also;
with a medium to high bitter in the mouthfeel, medium carbonation, left me very thirst when i finished;
in the drinkability very good!, preferably to enjoy without food

This sample was purchased in Berlin, Germany.
Comes in a cool looking 33cl mini-swing top brown bottle with a best before date stamped on the rear label.
Classic weissebier appearance; cloudy golden straw, with dark amber hues in the center, topped with a sticky, pillowy, white foam head with ample retention.
Aroma on this sample is a bit musty, yeasty, with clove underneath and strong wheat husk in the nose; slightly twangy.
Luscious. Sweet banana bread in the malt, smooth medium-body and mouthfeel that glides and coats the palate. Caramel undertones. Clove and tea-like flavours push through the banana character with notes of floral and herbal. Wheat lends a touch of sourness to the flavour, with a mild twang and upfront crispness; a bit dry, too. And a touch of lemony citric acid adds another depth to the hops, while bringing some refreshment to the palate. Coarse finish, dry with wheat tannins that linger briefly.
A pretty damn solid weissebier. Expected and welcomed.

A - 3" dense white head. Retains very well. Thick lace. Chill hazed, dull gold hefe. Good amount of visible carbonation.
S - Big bubble gum. Yeasty. Some clove.
T - Lots of wheat flavor. The yeast is secondary here. Just a hint of clover and bubble gum. Decent hops as well for a hefe. Some sweetness in the finish.
M - Medium body. Crisp mouthfeel. High carbonation. Very tasty and refreshing.
D - Good drinkability. Very nice hefe. Not my favorite style but this is a good one.

A cool little beer that seems true to its style. From its flip top brown bottle, it poured a hazy, cloud of gold with an impressive white head. The head was well carbonated and stuck its lace well to settle to a quarter inch and maintained from that.
The aroma was citric wheat malt and spice. The taste was that of banana/citric with a balanced hoppy malt.
A good Weizen, though not my first choice in style, but Flensburger stayed true and dose a very drinkable and enjoyed good job at it.

Appearance: Pours moderately hazy with a thick but active 1/4" of white foam on top. The head stuck around for only about a minute until it receded into the beer to remain a small ring around the top of the beer. A minute more, and the beer was pretty still looking with a few bubbles rising, but these didn't maintain the head. There was no lacing to speak of.
Aroma: Very mild fruity aromatics with a major compliment of the toasty malts. This is a little unusual for this style, but you won't hear me complaining. I get more bubble gum in the aroma of this beer than I do clove or banana. There is a subtle floral hop thing going on, but it is really reserved leaving the malt to be the main contender.
Taste: The flavor is really malt driven as well. There are a few phenolics, but for the most part this beer tastes like a Pilsner fermented with a slightly fruity ale yeast. I don't get a lot of dry wheat or a watery flavor like a lot of beers in this style give you. It is different, but pleasant. The flavor has a sweet aftertaste with some mild fruit that lingers for quite some time. The malt is in charge of this beer, and that doesn't change the entire time. The finish is pretty wet with a refreshing sweetness from caramelized malts to linger on the palate long into the finish.
Opinion: I like this beer quite a bit because it isn't your traditional weizen beer. It is much more malt balanced and I like this fact about it. I will have to ding it on a few aspects of the style because I have to, but I think that this is a really clean and well crafted beer. I am sure that I will be drinking it again in the future, but suffice it to say that this really isn't a good beer for someone wanting a weizen style beer. It is very different from the norm.

Poured into Weizen glass.
Different shades of transclucent orange, exquisitly chunky white head.
Smells of banana, melon, wheat cracker, and fresh fruity yeast.
A little thin in the taste department, a dry cracker type wheat flavor is pervasive throughout the taste timeline. Initial taste is of citrus, orange and, melons. Arid bisquity taste fades out. Relatively dry and somewhat grainy.
This beer looks and smells much better than it tastes. Not as complex as some of the better Hefeweizens.

12 oz bottle poured into wine glass. Bottle stamped 09.14.11
Appearance - White or barely offwhite half finger frothy head with low decent to low retention and good lacing. Cloudy amber body.
Smell - Strong banana and nut. Pretty malty. Deep smooth and sweet.
Taste - Slightly sweet. Alcoholic finish. Aftertaste is somewhat astringent and corny like an American Adjunct Lager.
Mouthfeel - Decent creaminess up front, medium body with a light finish.
Overall Drinkability - Enjoyable but has some small flaws that put a big damper on the beer.

This is the style of beer that I would never actually purchase, but the other 2 styles I had from Flensburger were pretty good. Not to mention they are reasonably priced (but thats not ever an issue for me.)
Pours a large almost 3 finger soft pillowy head that is eggshell. The color is a cloudy light golden amber. Head dies but seems to be retaining well but then eventually fades to thick bubbly layer. No lacing.
Fruity, light bannana and grassy hay/oaty. Rather light subtle flavor.
Corny with slightly fruity aftertaste.
Mouthfeel is very light. medium/high carbonation
Medium carbonation with light/medium body. Its light and drinkable.

Pours golden orange and hazey in color, with some chill haze. Off-white head of good duration and with very good lacing. Good visible carbonation. Spicey, pungent yeast and cloves on the nose, very pronounced. Notes of vanilla, and muted banana. Rich malt profile, seems about half-half, with lots of sweet crystal/pale malts. Smooth, rich, and very creamy on the first sip, coating the tongue. Mildly sweet, with light floral elements in the aromatics, and a subtle spiciness bubbling underneath. Light tangy sourness lingers nicely, easily cutting the sweetness. Medium-bodied but drinks bigger, albeit with excellent drinkability. I prefer a bit more acidity in the style, but it's hard not to love this brew for what it is. Also, while the spiciness in the nose didn't pan out in the long run, this would pair nicely with a spicey cuisine or a sharp cheese. I'll pick this one up again.
Served chilled in a weizen glass.

Saw a single of these at my local store and decided to pick one up.
Pours a pale yellow color with a large, frothy head, that fades relatively quickly.
Sweet bananas in the aroma with hints of wheat, obviously. Slightly earthy.
Earthy, bready, wheaty, and a hint of cloves in the taste.
Slightly watery mouthfeel, but not overly watery.
Very easily drinkable.
A good, refreshing hefeweizen. Glad I picked this one up.

Found in the "World of Beer" kiosk in north-central Moscow. I could have chosen the half liter or 1/3 liter bottles. I went small. Brown swing-top container with a yellow and gold label featuring a sailing ship surrounded by the name. Purity law applies, of course. Best before 9/8/05, I opened it on 7/23/05.
Poured a very cloudy orangish gold under a one finger white head that settled a bit too quickly, leaving just a few spots of lace. The nose is mild and very bready, with a touch of coriander. The mouth is very, very prickly and quite light, yet it somehow manages to be pretty sticky. Nice wheat flavor here, although a bit weak on the spiceyness. It is strong with malt, adding just a touch of refreshing hoppiness in the finish. There's a bit of fruit here, too, leaning towards the sour side. The strong aftertaste mixes bread, fruit and spice. A pleasant quaffer.

This weizen poured a bright white fairly long lasting head that rounded to a cloudlike bulge above the lip of the glass. Initially it was clear but after a little swishing of the beer in the bottle, I got the weizen cloudiness that had settled on the bottom.
The aroma was more cloves than anything else. Not overpowering.
The taste was more bubble gum than anything else. Nice and sweet. Again nothing over the top.
The mouthfeel was just what I expect from a good wheat beer. Medium light body with a lot of carbonation playing with the tongue and roof of the mouth.
A very drinkable beer. I saw this on the shelf of the liquour store and never had seen it before. Bought it on a lark and am glad that I did. I will certainly keep a couple of these around the fridge.

Poured from a bottle and into a Pilsener glass (I didn't have a Weizen glass)
Look - Kind of a deep golden color, murky, with about 2 fingers of off-white foam that dissipates somewhat slowly. Somewhat good carbonation.
Smell - Interesting combination of floral/earthy mixed with slight hoppiness and citrus tones. Also a short hint of a smokiness.
Taste and Mouthfeel - definite wheatiness to it, but without bitterness of hops, but the taste of the hops is there too. Subtly toasty. Texture is well-balanced.
Drinkability - Nice brew with interesting complexity. I wish I was more familiar with weizens to give it a better rating in regard to the style, but they seem to have done a good job on this one!

Tasted on 14th July 2005. A swing-top brown halb liter bottle, cost me 2.85 in Molloys, Dublin. Best by 06.01.05. ABV: 5.1%
Appearence; hazy amber body with nice white dense head. Classic weizen appearence.
Smell was almost nothing (very subtle, I mean!). I got a flashback of "old books" from somewhere.
Taste and Mouthfeel; quite surprising with an almost fizzy carbonation and a back-of-the-throat experience that was very pleasent. I expected a much blander sensation.
Drinkability; yes, I would certainly have a couple of these. This was a pleasent surprise.

Flensburger Weizen pours a hazy light copper color with a huge white head from a 33cl brown swingtop bottle. The aroma is more clove than banana. Flavor strikes me as having a caramel or toffee taste to it. Clove is definitely noticeable, but mild, banana seems to be missing altogether. Refreshing and enjoyable, worth a try.

Light gold pour, this one's filtered. Finger of white head.
Aroma, light malt, grassy hay. Only a little banana and clove.
Taste, definetely more banana and clove here. Usually I find the German Hefe's to have less of these, but not this one. Unfortunately that is not my preference either. Finishes with some hay.
Wheat is present in the mouthfeel. Light bodied, nice and refreshing. Reminded me a bit of my old steadfast hefe, the Widmere.

New brand for Texas, Just arrived in Dallas. Poured into a 12-oz stein type glass. Hazy yellow color, with a very substantial, rocky head. Lightly fruity aroma, with plenty of wheat malt. Taste has plenty of phenols, with some fruitiness but not identifiable vanilla or banana notes. Crackery malt flavor, with lots of wheat. Finishes with light fruitiness. Moderate body, carbonation a little low for the style.
Pretty refreshing and drinkable, but doesn't stand out among the excellent German weizens available here.

Thanks to jcwattsrugger for this one...
Flip-top bottle poured into weizen glass:
Pours deep gold with a creamy white head that thins and lasts, leaving some lacing.
The smell is of a caramelish wheat, clove, some sourish fruitiness, mild banana.
The taste is of clove, tangy wheat, sourish pear/apple with an underlying sweetness, and mild banana. Malty sweetness balanced nicely by a touch of sour and dryness in the finish.
It's smooth and crisp with a light-to-medium body.
An easy-drinking HW. It didn't rock my HW world, but it's a nice one, nevertheless.

Poured into a pint
A - Thick and creamy white head with beautiful lacing and decent retention. Extremely cloudy caramel body.
S - I was sitting a good two feet from the bottle when it was opened and I could still smell it. Rich banana and honey scent. Reminds me of banana bread with lots of sugar. Delicious.
T - Tastes like a banana flavored wine, if that's even possible. Aftertaste is a bit vinegary. Darn.
M - Not much carbonation, but I think it works in this case. Creamy and tart but still fairly smooth.
O - If you can get over the strange aftertaste, this beer is a pretty solid choice.

The beer poured into the glass cloudy pale golden with and almost white tall and frothy head which lasted to coat the glass.
The aroma was lightly spicy and with wheat through the huge head. The aroma contained a definitely clove spice presence and a soft wheat aromatic. The aroma was also lightly earthy in character.
The flavor was clove spice and bananas when slurping the overflowing head to prevent the desk from becoming a sticky mess. Wheat and a malty caramel when first contact was made with the palate, this was followed by a low bittering which kept everything in check. The flavor was lightly estery with some banana character at a very low level.
The finish was just dry with a lasting clove spice and low bittering into the aftertaste. The body was medium with a fairly high carbonation level, but a slickness in the mouthfeel. A run of the mill Weizen, nothing to seek out.
12 ounce flip top bottle.

I like the screw cap; ver old school. Features the requisite big, compositely, tight-bubbled head and orange golden hue. ditto the wheat and yeast nose with bbanana and clove notes with maybe a little citrus for good measure. Everything is falling into place thusfar.
Taste is clean and refreshing with bready, malty, chewy qualities added to the standard weisse ones. Clean in the finish. Texture is a bit thin for the heaviness of the taste but not terrible. A bit more malty than most of the style but a nice change of pace and recommended if weizen is your thing.

355 mL flip-top with a best by date of 01.14.11. Pours an extremely opaque gold color with a nice, large cap of white foam. Always good to see a wheat beer pour with a dense, creamy head. Retention is good and the lacing is nice as well.
Nose is a bit more bready and earthy with a more subdued clove presence than many other German hefes. Maintains a healthy amount of wheat tang and banana.
Taste follows suit with the bananas coming through and more of a focus on a rounded malty flavor. Bready and earthy with a dull hop bite on the finish. Carbonation is nice and soft and the mouthfeel is decently full. Not as bright and zippy as say, a Franziskaner or Weihenstephaner, but not a bad little brew that I am sure would be better fresh from the source.

Pours a barely fogged gold with a quite minimal. Typical yeasty, spiced, banana nose, but mild and a bit "dirty" it seems. Flavor isn't bad. Banana and bubble gum. Light and airy. Could use a bit more body on the liquid IMO and the carbonation is middle of the road. Overall a decent enough hefe. Could be amped up a bit, but it is what it is.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a stange glass.
A- Pours a cloudy yellowy orange into the glass. Makes a 2 finger head but doesn't last long. No lacing on the glass.
S- Malt, banana, spices.
T- Malt and bread, with some spice and citrus. Also some honey.
M- Mouthfeel was good, but a bit thin. Good carbonation level.
D- This probably isn't a hefe I'd search out, but it's not bad by any stretch. It's average, and there are many better choices available.

Appearance: A thoroughly hazy golden-amber body capped by about three fingers of dense, off-white head that fades slowly and leaves patchy lacing. Lots of nice brown sediment at the bottom of the bottle.
Aroma: The nose is a mix of mild vanilla and the traditional Hefeweizen banana and clove yeast over bready and almost burnt sugary malt. This smells a bit darker than the style standard (which is far from a bad thing).
Flavor: Mild hops and lots of Hefeweizen yeast up front, with a solid base of bready and wheaty malt underneath. Again, the malt is not exactly "dark," but a little more toasty than usual. Lots of wheat and yeast in the finish.
Mouthfeel: A smooth and creamy medium body with medium carbonation that starts off mellow but ramps up after a second.
Drinkability: Easily drinkable, as you'd expect from the style.
Verdict: Flensburger's Hefe is an easy drinking, solid, and slightly darker than average example of the style. Worth a try for fans of the style.
