This sample was purchased in Berlin, Germany.

Comes in a cool looking 33cl mini-swing top brown bottle with a best before date stamped on the rear label.

Classic weissebier appearance; cloudy golden straw, with dark amber hues in the center, topped with a sticky, pillowy, white foam head with ample retention.

Aroma on this sample is a bit musty, yeasty, with clove underneath and strong wheat husk in the nose; slightly twangy.

Luscious. Sweet banana bread in the malt, smooth medium-body and mouthfeel that glides and coats the palate. Caramel undertones. Clove and tea-like flavours push through the banana character with notes of floral and herbal. Wheat lends a touch of sourness to the flavour, with a mild twang and upfront crispness; a bit dry, too. And a touch of lemony citric acid adds another depth to the hops, while bringing some refreshment to the palate. Coarse finish, dry with wheat tannins that linger briefly.

A pretty damn solid weissebier. Expected and welcomed.

33cl brown reusable swing-top bottle with a drink before date on the back label.

Apperance: Hazy yellowish golden with a few yeast particles floating around. Cropped white head stays as long as the beer is around.

Smell: Fruity and estery with some phenolics and spicy clove, fruitiness is of vague banana and tart plum. That trademark fermented wheat malt twang is there also.

Taste: Solid malt base with enough phenolic and spicy clove to balance, minimal hopping. Fruity with a tart plum character and banana in the back, estery with some higher alcohols as well show some wild hefe yeast activity.Finishes spicy dry on the palate.

Mouthfeel: Very crisp with a well textured carbonation in the modestly sized body.

Drinkability: Good enough to stand on its own as a beer to quaff though the night and complex enough to pair up with just about any kind of food ... very versitile.

Poured from 33 cl bottle into a weizen.

A: Very dark golden hue. Pours about a half finger, foamy, white head. No real head.

S: Wheat, fresh tea, and cola.

T: Pungent wheaty tone. Heavy on the cola. A little...walnut in there methinks.

M: Light body, a little punchy. Slightly bitter finish.

D: Session style.

Atmosphere is decent. Dark hue, nice head, but no lacing. Nose is only slightly reminiscent of wheat, with this cola thing much more prominent. Also, cola flavor is the most outstanding characteristic. Not bad, just not really a characteristic weizen. Overall, this is a pretty decent quaff.

A: The color is slightly hazy pale golden while the enormously tall white compact but still light head settles after a while leaving nice lacings.

S: Ripe banana, but not overly sweet. Citric fruits along side with fresh cut grass. Yeast and a mild spicy smell completes the fruityness.

T: Surprisingly dry and bitter. Still very obvious a Hefeweizen with the ripe bananas and the spices (mainly coriander) as well as the yeast. A bit sour. Ripe oranges.

M: Aftertaste lingers with a bitter sourness. Body is on the thinner side and carbonation is rich - just as everything should be.

O: The germans sure know their Weizens. This is a nice north German Hefe with a little drier and less sweet feel.

Big blow-off when opening the swing-top. Settles down to a frothy light amber in the glass. Fairly spritzy on the tongue.

The estery flavors of banana and clove are in evidence. The clove seems to emerge more in the aftertaste after sipping a while. The body and general feel is pretty flabby. This seems rather sweet and bland. It seems to be lacking in the touch of sharpness that marks the Hefeweizens I prefer. Maybe it's all in the atmosphere-- a whiff of hot pretzels and some raucous singing might improve this. It's quite spicy in the nose but less interesting in the mouth.

The 33 cl bottle has the date of 11/08/13 on it. No alcohol content. Purchased at H and H Beverage in Abilene, Texas.
