500 ml bottle, at home, poured into a kolsch glass. ABV 4,8%.
Pale amber colour, with an off-white head on top, soapy, with average retention, leaving light lacing behind. Little activity in the glass. Very transparent.
Nice strong aroma of roasted malts and slighty caramel.
Quite bitter on the finish, with intense roasted malts taste and a light iron flavour.
Very thin on the body. Carbonation is light to medium.
At first I was a bit disappointed by its appearance but it turned out to be a very nice alt.

On tap from a local pub
A- Dark brown colour. Head is slightly off-white, not impressive but shows nice retention
S- Not bright for sure. Kind of a soft malty with a slight herbal background
T- Sweet malty entrypoint, though bitterness soon hits (and i mean hits by german standards) with a bitter herbs feel. Overall a nicely balanced mix of sweet nutty malts and bitter herbs. Slight fruity feel on the background
M- Medium body and carbonation. Decently good. Just feels good, nothing impressive.
O- Nice drinkability and overall balance. Enjoyable though not impressive at all. Not even close to alts like those from Uerige

330ml bottle, poured into Leffe chalice. Dark bronze colour, one finger head which didn't hang around very long, kept some lacing. Quite thick looking but not hazy. Initially there was no detectable aroma, some malt and vanilla came through towards the end. Tasted charcol and malt, was overly bitter in an unbalanced way that also killed all other flavours. Finish was bitter and slightly bready. Had a coarse edge, was well carbonated and the body was quite thick for the fairly low strength. Overall not one of the better beers out there, was just a bit unbalanced even though it mellowed slightly.

Got this beer on a short visit to Germany just across the border from Sittard in the Netherlands in an ordinary REWE supermarket. I visited the brewery in the summer of 2000, when I did an internship in Düsseldorf. I remember that it was not my favorite amongst the many different Altbier that I tasted in that summer.
In lack of a proper Altbier glass, I poured it into a tall Pils glass. The color is a crystal clear light amber. Only little carbonation visible. The 2 finger slightly beige head shows a good retention for such a beer type and leaves a nice lacing.
Smell is not strong but there is some roasted malt and hints of banana and bread.
Malty in taste but subtle, roasted malt mainly; some bitterness that seems related not alone to the hops but also to the roasted malt.
Foam is smooth and tastes pleasant
Runs down my throat like a medium carbonated soft mineral water. Still it is rather smooth than watery.
Very good drinkability, refreshing but with its maltiness also suited for the colder months of the year. I am surprised how much I like this. I think I have to go back re-exploring this style.

Russet brown with fluffy beige froth that settles to a film. Lots of toast and caramel on the nose with minty hops underneath - sweet and appetizing.
Baked apples, roasted peanuts and caramelized sugar with grass and herbal hops.
Danish butter cookie end and drying finish. Medium trending to light, slight cling, crisp.
Glad to try a another genuine Dusseldof Alt. Dark melanoidin notes, but all bright, nothing swampy, and a surprisingly hoppy ending. Nothing revolutionary, but a perfectly nice drinker, if a bit thin.

I drank this beer in a restaurant in Dreifelden, a tiny little place in Germany. The beer was served in the original glass which looks a bit like a small lemonade glass. Darkbrwon fluid with a broken white two finger head.
There is no carbonation visible and the beer has a malty taste with a sweetness. The hops are far away in this beer. Good to drink though!

Bronze color, quite dark. Beautiful light beige colored foam.
Full malty smell, caramel, very few hop.
The taste is again malty, but the hop bitterness is a bit more present.
Drinkable, as usual, with a more intense bitterness in the aftertaste, malty, with light notes of a quite dark caramel.

A: The beer is clear amber in color with a two finger high off white head that slowly died down leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface. A very light amount of carbonation is visible from the rising bubbles.
S: There is a light to moderate aroma of malts in the nose along with some hints of caramel.
T: The taste is rather strong and dominated by malty flavors that have notes of caramel. There is a slight amount of sweetness and no hop flavors are detectable.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and is rather smooth with a light to medium amount of carbonation.
D: The beer is very easy to drink and is quite sessionable.

Lovely sunny evening, what better way to start it off than with a large (500ml) bottle of Alt?
Poured into one of my strangely shaped 'Hannen Alt' glasses three times this beer looked good.
The regular Alt brown colour, with the normal off-white head that hangs around for a while before becoming a collar and semi-wisp.
The nose is mostly malts, lightly roasted, half-toasted, again typical Alt in smell as well as looks.
The taste is yet again mid-range Alt, nothing outstanding, nothing wrong. Malts rule the flavours but it is so-so in intensity and doesn't put this beer above the rest.
Mr Average in all aspects, I like Alts, this one is fine but not a classic in my eyes. Having said that, it is years since I was in Dusseldorf and I must revisit soon, the Alt Stadt is one of the best nights out in Germany!

The brown is brown with a hint of orange, an off-white head leaving curtains, but little lacing.
The smell is malty sweet and sour milk, toffee, dark bread, old sour cream and Sunday pot roast.
The taste has little sweetness, burnt toast and cereals from the malt going over in a sharp and distinct bitterness from the hops. Fresh pine nuts, bitter almond.
Medium low carbonation, a bit watery but mostly a definitive dry long lasting feeling.
A rather complex mixture of the spontaneous old odor and modern bittern feeling. Not bad, and probably very good to bratwürst und saurkraut.

A - Deep copper/amber. Medium off-white creamy head.
S - Roasted malt with slight caramel and nuttiness. A very slight hint of citrus hops. Mostly malt scents though.
T - Mostly roasted nutty malt. Some caramel flavor as well. There is also slight citrusy hops, that provide more of a bitter flavor than a citrus flavor. These are quite subdued though. Slightly mineral like. Mostly a malty taste, and somewhat sweet due to that.
M - Fairly light that starts to near medium body. Decent carbonation and slightly drying. A little watery (especially as far as flavor goes).
D - Not great, the mouthfeel allows for some drinkability. However, since it is mostly malt and not a lot of complexity and fairly sweet, I probably wouldn't drink these one after another.
Notes: Fairly good beer for what it is, I just don't think I am a big fan of the style. The flavors seem to not be all that strong, and maybe I would enjoy it more if they were a bit stronger.

A: This beer pours copper, with a medium large white head that's a biu uneven and disspiates rather fast leaving some lacings.
S: Smell of light roasted caramell malt, together with bitter hops and some citric notes. A metallic smell is also present.
Over all a not especially strong smelling beer.
T: A bit rough and mild at the same time - not very well balanced. Some fruityness and light roasted malt.
M: Short aftertaste with some bitterness. The body is rather light and the carbonation is moderate.
D: This isn't really my kind of beer. To little of everything - I can appreciate a lot of different things in this beer but all together it feels like there's something missing.

Pours a carmel color in the glass with a foamy lacing white head. It smells sweet and mildly fruity with a barely noticable hoppy aroma.
It has a nice sweet malty flavor with an earthy bitter finish. It has nice carbonation with moderate dryness. It goes down nice and smooth, but I could see the sweetness becoming a nuisance after a couple of these. Very tastey if you are only having a beer or two.
