I am a aventenus fan. But this is right there. I will buy another 4-pack.
The one I had, must have been very fresh.
Taste . First sip, Bach. As it sat in my glass for awhile, jut as good 10 minutes later.
Mouth. I like a dat.
Over . My go to Bach.

330 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly cloudy deep reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, raisin, apple, toast, toffee, molasses, brown bread, light roast, floral, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt notes with light hops. Taste of big caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, raisin, brown bread, light roast, floral, light pepper, and toasted earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, molasses, toffee, raisin, toast, dark bread, light roast, floral, light pepper, and earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and balance malty flavors; with a light hop balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent doppelbock style. Very nice complexity and balance of malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Nice brown reddish color. It made barely one finger of off-white head with low retention.
Malty aroma, raisins, booze, strong licorice and earthy hops.
Sweet malty taste, booze, brown sugar, pepper and earth hops. Dry and mild bitter aftertaste.
Full body with low to medium carbonation.
A bit too sweet and apparent booze, but still flavorful and warming.

Pours a dark-brown, cola colour. Head fades away quickly, leaving some sticky lacing behind. Smells of toffee/molasses and a note of real liquorice. Taste is semi-sweet molasses, with a mild hop bitter, along with a coffee-ish bitter flavour in the finish. Picking up up some notes of fig preserves in there as it warms up. Body is between medium and full; carbonation is barely detectable. As I expected, another finely crafted beer from Schloss Eggenberg.

From bottle into a Delirum tulip glass
Visual (4): Dark ruby colour with a good clarity. Robust, pillowy off-white head settles slowly to a single finger leaving a nice lacing on the glass. A stream of bubbles dance through the body.
Aroma (4): Malty and boozy. The nose tells of toasted biscuit, molasses sweetness, and a real boozy, alcoholic backbone. The aroma gives a bit of a smokey character.
Taste (4): Predominately sweet, with a bit of acidic/alcohol warming on the finish. Mirrors the smell with caramel rich sweetness, toasted biscuit and dark molasses. Rich in taste and boozy on the finish.
Mouthfeel (5): Medium to heavy body with a real silky smoothness. Very light carbonation with a lingering, mouth-coating alcoholic numbness
Overall (4): A real model of the style that does a lot of things very well. Good balance in the malt flavours, with strong but not overpowering alcoholic lingerings. The mouthfeel is really solid complimenting this robust, but smooth, beer.

doesnt eggenberg make samicluase too? and isnt samiclause a dopplebock also? interesting. and i have a dunkel samiclause ready to go in the frig....
pours dark ruby, small head.
smells sweet, chewy.... toffee? caramel? i havent had a sami in YEARS but it brings it to mind...
taste is... sweet, but funky sweet.... what IS that i'm getting?? says 'coffee' and toffee on the website.... and some beautiful women on the website also....
the taste is bringing back memories of a certain pub in the mall in las vegas called DER BARON's.... i cannot place the taste, but it is familiar. i am wondering if it is the sami....?
anyway, overall, this is an interesting brew. i need to do the sami now to see if it is the brewery which produces this peculiar taste or if it is the ingredients. or the region? i want to say i like it. it's certainly a HEAVIER doblebock than the typical german variety and very sweet, still... i give it a 4.5 overall simply for the memories... but it rightfully deserves it.

An agreeable - no: perfect - accompaniment to heavy Austrian fare. Poured into a pretty Eggenberg glass, tall and slender, like a pilsner.
A long, thick head that dissipated rapidly with nary a trace of lacing. Dark brown, but still admitting light: I could still see through it, a pretty root-beerish transparency. Nose was clean and predominantly malty, with a note of coffee candy.
A foamy mouthful, tightly carbonated. In fact, at the pour, tiny beige bubbles swirled in the dark brew, forming into a rising head. Like watching the formation of stars. Pleasantly burnt malt in the mouth, with notes of dark-chocolate-coated espresso beans. Slightly hoppy at the finish, tasted like "I'll have another, please."
Very satisfying.
Bottle was 11.2 oz.

Appearance: root beer brown; clear; minimal head; induces salivation!
Aroma: crisp wheat/malt and mild hop - similar to a lager, but with more caramel and roasty hints
Taste & Mouthfeel: great molasses, burnt caramel flavours - it's actually tasting like root beer too with a hint of earthy spice; crisp and clean, very well balanced to make an easy drinking beer that could have mass appeal; as warms get more yeast character with some more spice and dark fruit (cherry, raisin)
Overall: complex and fun flavour for an easy drinking brew; balances everything perfectly, from sweet to bitter, crisp and smooth, complex and familiar

A: The color of this Doppelbock is dark brown with lots of red hues. The head is beige, rather thin and sinks instantly, leaving only utter faint lacings.
S: Raisins galore! and loads of other dried dark fruits. Notes of bread and flowers is present but way in the back compared to the fruitcake and syrupy sweet doughy buns. Just the way I like it.
T: Sweet bready malt is way overrepresented in this style, and this Austrian product is truely no exception. Besides the malty flavours there is also rich notes of molasses and dried fruits, like raisins, dates and figs. In the back, there's some bitterness which adds to the complexity.
M: The first thing that hits you is the recemlance to dark syrup - thick. No surprises when the carbonation is non-existant, not that you miss it though... The aftertaste is short, but there is a lingering dry feeling in my mouth.
O: A nice Doppelbock, but not quite up there with the most complex Bavarian ones. I had high expectations on this Doppelbock from the brewery of Samichlaus, but yet again - the complexity is not what I hoped for, rather than expected.
