Notes:
Hops and Robbers was formulated with two great friends who share a passion for Craft beer, conversation, stealth missions (Finding great beer on tap) and travel. Nathan and Claude have always been looking for the next big score for IPA’s, so we decided to produce our own beer for the local market that had a great balance, aroma and 50 IBU’s!

This is golden IPA with an exceptionally rich and complex character. Fruity aromas of lemon with hints of pineapple combine crisply with toasty caramel flavours and a tasty malt backbone. Dry hopping with cascade hops ensures more hop aromatics are retained in the finished beer. Made with pride and panache, Double Trouble Brewing’s flagship brand Hops & Robbers is refreshingly delicious.

It pours golden yellow, with a thick white head. The nose is dough, grainy, light toast, tinned pineapple and weak citrus. The taste is citrus pith, lots of lemon, light tangerine, salt, toasted malt, slight astringency and metal, with a bitter finish. Thin-medium body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. A bit weak and boring.

Serving Type - 355ml can poured into a small pint glass.

Appearance - Pours a hazy golden-copper colour with 2 fingers of stringy white head which dissipates quickly, leaving behing some stringy white lacing and a bit of soapy residue on top.

Smell - Not your standard IPA smells. Picking up some light vanilla, toffee and caramel. Trying to pick up the lemon and pineapple but I'm jus not getting it.

Taste - Some 'bready' malts, vanilla, toffee and caramel dominate, which I find unusual for the style. Not necessarily a bad thing tho. Towards the finish some exceptionally light hop character in the form of citrus, possibly lemon, and a faint, lingering bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Medium body with low carbonation and a pretty dry finish.

Overall - 3.5/5

look: 3 | smell: 3 | taste: 2.5 | feel: 2.75 | overall: 2.75

Appearance: Slightly hazy orange/amber hue with a one finger foamy off-white head.

Aroma: A hint of lemon with some an echo of bready malt. Really not very aromatic.

Taste: It's hard to put my finger on what I'm tasting here. Bitterness for sure (50 IBUs or so), but no hop flavor. Some caramel and light amber malt but nothing to help balance out the raw bitterness. Hop bitterness through the finish and lingering in the aftertaste. I was hoping to taste some of the lemon and pineapple hop character that is described on the can.

Mouthfeel: At 5.7% ABV I expected a bit of a watery mess but it's actually almost medium in body which makes the idea of sessioning it less promising. Below average drinkability.

Final Thoughts: As a hophead I like to push my palate to the extreme with hoppy beers. Unfortunately, 50 IBUs don't taste good when they are not accompanied by fruit, pine, or earthy flavor. There is no date on the can so maybe it's old but if a brewery won't date their product then I can't take freshness into account when reviewing. Would I drink it again? No.

A middle of the road IPA in my opinion.

Served in a clear pint glass, the colour is rust orange.

Clear with a subtle effervecenes.

Thin head, no lace.

Fresh hop nose with a hint of lemon.

Robust bitters finish.

Smooth mouthfeel.

Small hints of soft toffee followed by the bitters.

NOT the can from Ontario. This is a review of the bottle brewed under contract by Dead Frog Brewing in Aldergrove.
A: clear orange jello. Head is small and dissipates quickly.
S: yeast, tin, caramel ... certainly not clean or citrus.
T: this is a pretty mild and inoffensive IPA ... and really not much of an IPA at all. More like a mainstream lager with some extra bittering hops. The finish is dry and bitter and funky. Not likeable at all.
M: medium to light body.
O: C'mon Legacy Liquor store in Vancouver -- this is really not a very good IPA like you said it was. And when I asked you if it was made by Dead Frog Brewing you said no ... well it's made right there under contract! Not an enjoyable beer at all.

Poured from a 500ml can. Pours a rich yellowish lager colour with orange tint. Nose has lots of lemon, banana and other fruit notes. Taste is similar with a nice sweetness and lots of citrus hop flavours. It's a little lean and light-bodied, but very crisp, hoppy and refreshing.
