Kuro ("black") version of Sapporo's Mugi to Hoppu ("Barley and Hops") happoshu.

Pours a dark brown, almost black, with a fizzy head that disappears far too quickly into nothing—no lacing or anything. Looks like flat cola sitting in a glass. Only the faintest of roasted malt in the nose. So far, not looking good.

The taste, however, is surprisingly pleasant for a happoshu. Despite having such a low malt content, the fact that what malt is used has been roasted goes a long way in providing a (relative) richness of flavor that most happoshu necessarily lack. (The high overall rating is thus only in comparison with other happoshu.)

[Note: Technically, according to Japanese tax code product classifications, this is a "Liqueur (Carbonated): 1" since it is a happoshu with barley spirits (barley vodka?) added to bring up the abv at a low cost.]
