22oz bottle, January 2013
5oz mini tasting snifter
A: Pours out a hazy, bright yellow orange like color. Thin layer of bright white head that sticks around a while before dropping into a collar on the glass. Leaves some sticky lacing trails.
S: You certainly still get the saison character on the nose. That barnyard funkiness. That peppery spice and some hoppy notes too. But that Chard barrel is there as well. It's pretty pronounced, but works well with the base beer.
T: Flavor on this is quite nice. Up front getting that saison spice and the hops on the tip of the tongue. As it progresses to the middle of the mouth, it's some of that vinous wine character meshing with the base beer funk. It's still a saison through and through, but that wine barrel oak helps to soften it up a little bit. Round the flavors. Almost creamy like. Dry white wine close.
M: Medium bodied.

500mL from Jim M. Thanks!
A: Pours a brilliant gold with 1/2 inch of foamy head. Head recedes to a thin whisp. Lots of bubbles running through this.
N: Lemon zest, yeast, and I’m getting what’s similar to a rubber eraser. Lavender and haystacks. Slight cheesine, some oak, and chardonnay grapes.
T: Sour lemons, floral elements, with a slight bitterness. Yeast is prevalent. Well-balanced with its elements; deft touch. A little vinegar adds an unpleasant sharpness at times.
M: Very dry - which is a good aspect - and it’s light. however, it gets a little watery which is both a positive and a negative.
O: A very well done beer with some minor flaws. Has a lot of reasons to recommend it, and I wish I had more.

Shared by yourefragile. Thanks Michael.
The beer is hazy and yellow with a soft white head. The aroma offers tropical fruit, floral hops, simply amazing. Wow. I could smell this all day. The flavor does not quite live up to the promise of the aroma. That said, this is a very good beer. Light and refreshing. I could drink a crazy amount of this.

big thanks to Nick for this
pours a hazy straw pale yellow. little to no head, a thin ring of lacing. a hint of brightness.
nose blew me away, smells like a belgian gueuze. lemon, apples, funky, oak. just brilliant.
taste is no way resembles a gueuze though. a very light saison. starts out funky and spicy with a light fruit aspect. starts to fade and thin in flavor through the finish. subtle white wine and oak on the finish.
light with some bite that builds then fades. fairly dry.
quite good but such a bigger bolder nose than the flavor. wish this had a bit more to match the nose. easy drinker, very good.

Huge thanks to kylep3...
Pours a hazed golden straw, moderate cap of white froth, some sticky lacing at the top of the glass. Delicate scent, light funk, vinous, fresh dried grain, woody, yeasty. Taste brings scent up a notch, a little more funk and booze than expected, wine grapes, oak, lots of dried grain, strong bready yeast, grassy, light citrus. Lighter side of medium bodied with some yeast chunkyness. Fantastically constructed, maybe a touch too delicate.

500ml bottle that was dipped in green wax. Awesome label. Cool but creepy drawing of 5 crazy looking hands coming out of the ground. You need to see it for yourself. To the right of the hands in big bold letters is "A Wine Barrel Fermented Four Grain Saison" and a small Government warning. To the left of the hands is a brief history of Tired Hands and a description of the beer. No date anywhere on the bottle.
When poured into an Ommegang Tulip, this wine barrel aged beer poured an extremely hazy yet solid lemon meringue color. It was a very bright color. It was so hazy that I couldn't even see a fraction of the silhouette of my fingers on the other side of the glass. On top of this beer was a creamy pearl white 1/4 of an inch head of foam. It had pretty good retention that left behind a tiny white film and a small number of white streaks of lace. Loved that bright lemon meringue color.
Not only does it look like lemon meringue, but it smells a little like it. I took a big whiff of this beer and I got a lot of tart lemons. Waiting patiently behind the lemons was some white wine and oak. I could detect a slight farmyard Saison funkiness in the back. The lemon ruled this aroma.
The lemon took a back seat in the taste. The first taste I got was the white wine. Directly behind the white wine was the oak barrel. After all that, in comes the lemon and other subtle citrus fruits. The taste then finishes up with a slight peppery yeast taste. The taste was basically tart and slightly funky.
The mouthfeel was light bodied with soft carbonation and with a dry white wine based aftertaste. There was very little funkiness in the mouthfeel. I would like to thank my good friend Del who waited in line for 50 minutes to get this beer for me. I'm not a big fan of white wine, but this is a great beer. They didn't let the lemon or the white wine totally take control of this beer. I would drink it again if I had the chance.
