1-liter growler poured into a matching Tired Hands oversized wine glass. It appears a murky brown color with a thin tan head. Some spotty lace sticks to the glass and a lighter brown to yellow is seen around the edges when held to the light.

The smell of this brew is veggies and an herbal element. A light spice and fruity tinges hang around the edges. It takes me awhile to put my finger on it but this smells like green bell peppers.

The flavor is mutally earthy and veggie. A mild fruit aspect tries to emerge at times but just like the nose, a character of green bell pepper and yeast dominates the profile. Fighting to discover more flavor to this brew, there is a trace indication of cacao or almost a bark-like flavor. Some herbal hops present themselves towards the finish.

This is a medium bodied brew with a light amount of carbonation. It was interesting to say the least. While it wasnt off-putting by any stretch, it also wasnt terribly enjoyable. This was suppose to be a dark saison brewed with maple syrup and cacao nibs. I dont think this turned out the way they intended because neither of those components really present themselves in the brew.

This poured out as a deep brown color with a soft looking off white head on top. The retention is minimal just leaving a ring around the glass. The lacing of the beer is minimal also. The smell of the beer is heavily roasted with some notes of chocolate in there also. The taste of the beer has big amount of roasted malt flavors followed up by a slightly salty chocolate finish... Interesting but not something I really cared for personally. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with a decent carbonation. Overall this beer was average in my opinion, wasn;t too thrilled with the flavor profile too much. It sounded like something that would be good but I wasn't digging it all that much.

First had: on tap at the brewery

Murky, dark brown pour, with a small cap of beige head that sank to a ringlet and laced the glass a bit. Aroma was pretty muted, limited scents of roast, grass, and yeast coming through. Taste was also a bit on the thin side, nutty malts, notes of grass and green peppers, a touch of yeast spiciness, maybe a bit of caramel, but none of the maple syrup used in the brewing made an appearance. The chocolate suddenly and distinctly and came in at the end, semi-sweet and powdery, making for a slightly and pleasantly chewy finish. Body was about light-medium, overall making the beer come off more as a thin English-style porter than a saison. It could be a grower, but a small pour of this was enough for me.
