Pours a hazy mahogany brown color with a crop of beige head. Fades out into a collar of film, leaving a few spots of lacing on the glass.

The "hoppy porter" description is clearly accurate here - a surprising amount of piny hoppiness cuts through the nose, followed by a pleasant malty presence with lighter coffee and chocolate notes. Nutty and roasty throughout.

Crisp snap of hops with pine kick things off, followed by a tempering malty backbone. Nutty with roasted malts, bread crust, coffee and a hint of chocolate. Mild sweetness and hop bitterness on the finish.

Medium body, well carbonated, a bit chewy with the typical Tired Hands creaminess that I've grown to love. The unusual level of hops makes this a bit of a hybrid, elevating it over the typical malty porter or hoppy dark ale. Quaffable and appropriate for the late fall season.

Review from notes.

A - Pours black as night with a small off white head leaving spotty trails of lace down the glass.

S - Smells quite hoppy with a bit of pine needles and light citric fruit. Some roasty flavors of coffee and chocolate help balance it all out. Very nice nose.

T - Very similar to the nose. The hops are dominant initially but they are eventually enveloped by the strong dark roasted core. Finish is a mix of the two flavors, clinging to the palate long after the finish.

M - Medium body with moderate carbonation. Roasty feel with some nice lingering hop bitterness through the finish.

O - A very nice hoppy porter. The hops and roast worked very well together. One of the best beers I had all day if I remember correctly.

On Tap at the brew cafe in Ardmore

A- Goblin boasts a very dark brown to black color with a strong tannish head with staying power. A nice amount of lace clings to the glass. A nice looking porter to go with the season

S- Smelling Goblin i get a lot of roasted/burnt maltiness with some hop presence leading to a undertone of caramel and cream. As with most dark beers, there is also bakers chocolate and some coffee present. A nice hoppy appeal here on later sniffs.

T- This porter is very rich tasting with a focus on the chocolate and burnt malts but neither outweigh the other. Some coffee creeps in along with some smoke and caramel, while the hops keep everything in perspective. All in all, this is a porter, a very drinkable one at that

M- Goblin has a great mouthfeel to it. Medium bodied. The carbonation is present,. The creamy nature of this porter is a delight to drink, making it easy to finish 16oz before I kenw it. Very nice feel, soothing, goes down easy.

D- I'm glad that this is only 6.0% because I drank this one quick. I could easily finish three of these, possibly four over a night without growing tired of it. Would love to pair this with some grilled meats on a cold winter day.

Listed as a "hoppy porter," hopped with Chinook and Simcoe.

GOBLIN was served in an 8oz. stem glass, dark brown with mahogany tints, nearly opaque, with a small dense cap of tannish head that retained well and left of bit of lacing on the glass. I'm a little skeptical when I see hoppy porters, but this one--much like the Deuce brown ale--was quite well done. Hops really came through in a big way in the aroma, quite a bit of pine, with coffee undertones. The taste was similar, though the hops were a bit more subdued by the dark malts typical of a porter; fresh pine needles, coffee, pumpernickel, and a little bit of bitter bakers' chocolate in the finish. Medium body, pretty smooth, very drinkable. Almost like an IPA/porter black & tan, and quite distinct from a Cascadian dark ale.
