Poured from growler into a Tired Hands stemware 8oz glass. The Thing is a very hazy, hay-colored beer with only a thin, white sudsy cap that soon quietly fades to nothing, leaving not a trace behind. Nothing too attractive here.
The aroma of this beer shows how odd and foreign it truly is, and deserving of the title "The Thing". Immediate notes of yogurt, lime, passion fruit, sorbet, and some more fruitiness, with some citrus and berry aromas coming out. Really quite exotic, bold aroma.
Lightly tart, dry wheat beer. Subtle flavors of passion fruit, lime, grapefruit, and kiwi. Somewhat lactic flavor. Soft carbonation, lighter body, and a yogurt-like finish.
I'm not sure what this beer is...like a cross between a Berliner Weisse, a saison, and fruit beer all in one. It's very good, and unique, and quite refreshing. I would call this one of the best fruit beers I've had.

4oz taster pour, at the brew pub 10/16/13
A: Pours out a slightly hazy bright light orange color. Initially there was a thin layer of bright white head, but that faded away rather quickly. Didn't leave any lacing.
S: Initially getting some of that fruit, certainly the passionfruit and grapefruit. There is some light tartness there. Some wheaty tones. As the previous reviewer mentions, it's like a cross between a saison and a berliner instead of being straight up for one style.
T: Nice punch of passionfruit tartness up front. Some lactic notes. It's really nice. As you drink it, you get some of that toasted wheat character and some of the other fruit. The finish is dry and refreshing. I need to get more of this!
M: Light medium body here, mainly due to the wheat addition.

First had: on tap at TH
This was labelled as a "sour wheat fruit saison," but the actual style was left ambiguous. To me, it seemed to ride the line between saison and Berliner weiss, but seemed to have more characteristics of the latter. A hazy, golden-orange pour, with a small fizzy white head that completely disappeared after about a minute, leaving it looking like a glass of fruit juice; no lacing. Big blast of passionfruit right up front in the nose, secondary notes of toasted wheat and grapefruit, with a touch of dry grass. Very similar in the taste, very nice blast of fruit, mainly passionfruit, lesser notes of grapefruit and candied lime peel, about middle the road as far as tartness goes, enough to get your saliva flowing, but not at all overpowering; toasted wheat with a little bit of crackery pale malt sweetness, and finally, a light grassy funk in the finish. Pretty good stuff here. It may not be a straight-up Berliner, but it will definitely appeal to those who like the style. Mouthfeel was medium to light-medium, carbonation was light, and it got even lighter...I wouldn't let it sit in a growler for more than a couple hours. Very nice overall. You want to try this before it's gone.
