Notes:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

British Crystal and Chocolate malts give this ale a medium body and rich, sweet aroma. Mount Hood hops add a spicy and floral nose. This smooth, malty brew was a Gold Medal
winner in the American Brown Ale category at the 1998 Great American Beer Festival.

Had time for a quick pint while last in Nashville, so tried some Big Riber brews I haven't tasted yet.
Clear brown liquid with a thick head of foam that lastest for half the glass. Thin sticky lines of lace. Some sweetish malt smell, a
bit nutty. Taste is sweet, earthy malt with caramel and nuts. Mouthfeel is pretty smooth, medium body. A nice overall beer, good flavor, but I have had better.

Appearance: clear brown in color with a thick 2"+ head that last a long time. Thick lacing paints the glass.

Smell: such a good looking beer and the aroma disappoints. Very little malt sweetness and a hint of earthiness are barley detectable by the nose.

Taste: mild malt sweetness, subtle hints of nuts, caramel, and a soft bitterness make up a simple brown ale. Decent flavor but it needs to be kicked up a bit.

Mouthfeel: smooth from start to finish. Short aftertaste as the flavors leave the tongue quickly. Medium bodied beer.

Drinkability: definite session ale for this place. Low alcohol levels means this can be quaffed all day.

The only brew from this establishment that I was really disapointed with. The beer looks very clear with a ruby hue. Could have been confused with some darker Pale Ales. Light head retention and lacing. Smells mildly malty, grainy, and artificially caramelly. Tastes similar to aromas with emphasis on the caramel sweetness. Feels weak and watery with a grain bite. Sweetness reminds me of Amber Bock. Finishes a bit sweet, but not balanced or prefered.

On cask anyway, this beer looks great, very deep cloudy brown, almost black. Tight, perfect, off white head that lasted throughout. The smell is definitely not pungent by any means, but you can pick up a little caramel malt and hops. The taste is sweet, despite the darker color, it doesn't come through as roasted bitter flavor (hence SWEET Magnolia I guess). There are apple and pear fruit flavors right away, but some darker fruits like plum come through in the finish, as well as a spicy flavor, maybe a little nutty but I didn't notice that as much. I was actually quite impressed with this beer.

Had this on tap in the brewpub. Says they use Mt. Hood hops. Pours a light brown color, clear, with very little head and doesn't leave any lacing on the glass. The aroma was very subdued - a little sweetness, but not much else. The flavor was very mild, but there was a lot of sweetness in this one. Some decent maltiness with a slight nutty tone. Finish is clean. Drinkability is good, but it's pretty thin. Could use some body.
