This is the oldest Italian Resturant in Portsmouth. Old world feel throughout. The have shipyard, Bass, Guinness, etc. on tap complimented by an excellent selection of bottled beer, such as Catamount, Blue Moon, Red Hook, etc. The food is excellent. The upstairs rooms are more intimate than the ground floor. The bar area is spacious and inviting. This is a must take if you want to dine and drink beer.

This place is great for good, and reasonably priced Italian food. I love going to this place and it is definitely kid friendly. There are plenty of booths and tables. The menu is fairly extensive, they have nice house salads, the bread is okay, service is friendly. I've been in here a load of times and it is one of my favorite restaurants in Portsmouth: unpretentious, reasonably priced, kid friendly. The beer selection ain't much to write home about, but the selection is good enough. I think they have about 6 or so beers on tap, and a smattering of bottles in addition. This isn't the place to go for a drink anyway.

The Rosa is a place where you go to get pretty good Italian food. It's not a place where you go for the purpose of drinking beer. The restaurant has been around for about 80 years, and they do a good job with the food. A recent visit on a busy Friday in April showed 13 beers on tap and 16 in bottles. The draft listing included Coors, Red Hook ESB, Sam's Lager, Bass, Widmer Hefe, Miller Lite, Black and Tan, Peroni, SN Pale Ale, Blue Moon White, Pilsner Urquell, and Guinness. The seasonal selection on tap was Harpoon Winter Warmer. The bottled beers were pretty much all macros.
So, don't go to The Rosa for the beer (hit the Portsmouth Brewery instead). Do go there for some decent Italian food.

The Rosa is a great out-of-the way place over by the old bridge and Strawberry Bank.
Long established Italian joint with a neon sign out front.
Very cool, carved wooden bar with a decent selection of draft.
Tuckermans, Sierra Nevada, Smuttynose, Shityard, and the usual Guinness and Bass.
Friendly service everytime I've been, and a nice quite atmosphere can be a welcome change of pace from bustling Porstmouth.
I highly recommend the mussels (prepared in a lobster broth), with a basket of bread (or two).
Food in the main dining area is good, but nothing to rave about. Reasonable enough too.
