Surprisingly balanced and drinkable given its stats. While most American Double IPAs use West Coast citrus hops, we went with old world noble hops to give it a floral, grassy bouquet and then punish you with Warrior hops.

DO NOT ASK FOR WHOM THE COWBELL TOLLS. THE COWBELL TOLLS FOR THEE.

From a can. Copper color with a decent layer of off-white head. Smell a little faint, mix of toasted malt and citrus. Medium body. Solid bready base with some pine, earthy, and grapefruit hop flavors. Well done

Poured from a can into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a lightly hazed orange amber color with a one finger head of puffy white foam. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a good sum of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the brew is rather strong of a mix of a tropical fruit smell crossed with a doughy pretzel aroma. The tropical fruits are strongest of tangerine but contain some aromas of mango and papaya. Along with the tropical fruits and pretzel smells comes a little bit of an herbal and earthy hop aroma. While pretzels and fruit do not sound like the best combination, it’s actually a pretty nice aroma overall.

Taste – The taste begins with a slightly fruit sweetened and doughy taste with the fruit being mostly of tangerine and papaya. Upfront there is also some caramel sweetness, which as the taste advances, grows slightly lesser in intensity. Along with the caramel, fruit, and doughy tastes, also are some hop flavors of a grapefruit, pine, and earthy nature. Upfront the grapefruit is the strongest, but as the taste advances it rapidly fades. All the while the pine and earth get stronger, and in the end really amp up to leave one with a nice dank hopped, but balanced fruit/malt taste to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the slightly thicker and chewier side with a carbonation level that is low. For the nice, dank flavors and the slightly doughy malt base the thickness is great and makes for a rich media for all the flavors to be well appreciated.

Overall – A rather tasty, dank hopped and robust brew with a well-balanced flavor profile. A rather enjoyable brew!!

Twice the kick of the average IPA; but of course it’s a double. The toasty flavorful hops give the bayou its best chance for the bibber to be asking for more. Rightly named...

From the can, it pours a nice ever so slightly hazy amber with a nice modest long lasting head that leaves lacing as you enjoy the beer. In the nose, it is a bit piney. In the mouth, it is pretty well balanced and piney.

Good looking pour. Pale honey color. Golden wheat or straw. Inch of white head. Smell is floral and citrusy. Typical IPA scent. Taste is also typical IPA but not kick you in the mouth hoppy. Smooth bite to it. Overall exactly how you would think it would be. Would drink again if I was in the mood for a basic IPA.

I've read that this Double IPA from Buffalo Bayou allegedly have IBU 118. I didn't get that when I drank it but it is possible. It is an interesting IPA. It is not juicy or dank, but more of a traditional well balanced IPA with lots of pine resin flavor.

Look: semi-clear golden color with a very thick white head

Aroma: pine resin

Flavor: Toasted malts, grassy, floral-pine-resin hops, a hint of citrus.

Feel: light to medium

[Original rating 2016-05-16] Draft at Craft Pride Austin TX. Pours clear orange with a thin white head, nice lacing. Aroma of caramel, flowers, citrus. Taste is similar, perfectly balanced with citrusy hops, citrus finish. Not a hop monster but if you like balance in your big IPAs this is for you. I don’t rate anything 5.0 because I haven’t had the perfect beer yet but this is one of the best DIPAs I’ve ever had.
