On-tap at FoBAB. Served in the accompanying taster glass.
A - Almost no head, just a thin collar. Body is pitch black.
S - Loads of whiskey here, and quite leathery, with notes of oak and perhaps a bit of fusel alcohol. The base stout seems to have been a bit overwhelmed by the barrel-aging, with only faint vanilla and cocoa nibs in the background.
T - The taste is better, with more balance. Nice dark chocolate, hint of chocolate, notes of roast, char, oak, and perhaps a hint of lactose sugar. Finishes with some whiskey bite, but there's only light vanilla from the barrel.
M - Medium-bodied, some roasty dryness and tannic oak, particularly in the finish. Low carbonation, and a tad watery. Not overly hot, even though the bourbon flavor seems to have taken over a fair bit.
D - I wasn't a huge Jones Dog fan to begin with, and this was more of a lateral move. I noticed Pipeworks has amped up the base recipe to 8.5%, so I suspect subsequent batches will hold up to the barrel-aging better. I'll re-visit this when/if they finally bottle it.
