This was the very first Abduction - the first time the extraterrestrials got a taste of a rich, roasty, chocolatey Imperial Stout with subtle bittering hops. This specific batch is an overhaul of the original recipe. We've upped the roasty character, and brewed it bigger, and richer with a slight kiss of orange peel at the end of the boil. Be Warned: the little green men will be quick to beam this off of shelves to enjoy on their home planet.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a short tan head that died down a bit but left some patches of bubbles on the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of raspberry liqueur are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of raspberry liqueur along with hints of chocolate malts. There is a light amount of sweetness.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I would have expected this stout to have a stronger body and malty base but both the smell and taste were dominated by sweet aromas and flavors of raspberries. No alcohol is perceptible in the taste.

Appearance - The beer was black with a modest tan head crowning the glass.

Smell - The nose is pretty straight forward roasty malts.

Taste - At the front was rich smooth chocolate syrup. This was followed up by bitter coffee and burnt malts. The beer ran a little bitter at the end, but there is something to be appreciated in abduction without all of the fruits and nuts.

Mouthfeel - The carbonation level of on target for the style and allows the taste to linger. The overall profile was quite smooth.

Overall - I am surprised that I like OG Abduction more than some the variants.

Overall a very good stout. No rough edges, a little too sweet, nothing overly exciting. Cellared approximately 2 years.
