Brother Blue Beardo is a Strong Dark Belgian Style Ale brewed with Demerara sugar, dark Belgian candi syrup and 220 pounds of Klug Farm Blueberries in each 7 barrel batch. The result is a beautiful blend of classic Trappist Ale notes of spicy yeast, dark fruits and dark sugar/molasses with the lightly acidic and perfectly fruity taste of blueberries.

Pleasantly surprised by this ale. The 10% is well hidden beneath a rather mellow, sweet yeasty blueberry feel. I almost expected a sour bite here but the berries sort of muddle into the beer, creating almost like a yeasty juice effect. Interesting enough to invite further sips, this is a very worthy offering.

Bottle won in lottery.
Pours a fairly opaque dark purple color with a smallish tan head that slowly dissipates. Aromas of caramel dark sugars and sweet berries with enough Belgian yeasty aromas to keep it from cloying. The flavor is what I expected from the aroma with a burnt sugary blueberry flavor dominating. Mild yeasty flavors and light phenols with just a touch of alcohol. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation. Interesting beer, I kind of dug it, but it's not horribly complex and gets a little monotonous to drink a big glass of it.

A: pours dark brown, with a violet tinge and a head the color of espresso crema.
S: very chocolaty, some tangy blueberry smells
T: chocolate, some blueberry tang, caramel and candied pitted fruits, with a boozy afterburner. Delicious
M: buttery and smooth
O: terrific, loved it
