Thanks to eyebereej for sending this one! Reviewed from notes. Bottled July '13, consumed 12/5/19. Poured from the 750 mL bottle into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass.
A: Very dark to nearly black, and opaque. Still has some visible carbonation bubbles. Forms a thin tan head that fades to a ring quickly.
S: Tart and fruity berry. Malic and lactic acidity and sourness. Roasted malts and dark chocolate. Nice enough aroma, and it has retained a definite fruitiness.
T: Lactic tart and berries. Milder malic acidic sour cherries. Roasted malts and some dark chocolate again, and some (I think) Lactobacillus funk here. More tart berries, and some over-roasted coffee within the roasted malts adds some bitterness. Lingeringly sweet-and-tart berry fruitiness with some acidic dryness at the end.
M: A full body with a sticky mouthfeel – but not thick like the “Imperial Stout” that the label proclaims. The alcohol is well-hidden for the nearly 10% listed. Low carbonation sensation, but such that it fits the beer.
O: I don’t recall having this fresh, but it’s drinking pretty damn well right now. The lowish carbonation doesn’t hurt this at all. The sour fruit is an interesting mash with the bitter coffee flavor. And the nice tart and berry flavors with a mild acid that manages to stay restrained. Maybe not a personal favorite, but this is a well-made beer.

Beautiful appearance. Great head, sticky lacing, maybe a slight purple hue or my mind is playing tricks on me. Aroma has some berry darkness with chocolate, coffee grounds, a slight balsamic oakiness and acidity. Flavor is juicy dark berry with oak, tannin, vanilla. Medium creamy body. Awesome dark sour.

Enormous thanks to anotherjoe who is responsible for popping my SARA cherry with matching proper glassware. 750ml capped presentation poured into the matching snifter. The brew is black in color with dark mocha head. Some spotty stringy lace sticks to the glass.
The smell is acidic with lots of tangy fruit inclusion overtop chocolate and coffee roastines. The taste is tart and fruity/tangy with roast like coffee/chocolate and earthiness before some minerals and meaty character into the finish.
This is medium bodied with modest carbonation. It is interesting but not at all what I was expecting based off the label description: Belgian stout aged with boysenberries and barrel aged? Not really a stout at all except for the looks. Whatever, its pretty tasty.
