Had my growler filled last night at the brewery.

A nice medium amber in color with a short white head.

Aroma of caramel, alcohol and hops.

Alchol flavors are big, along with a big malt sweetness. This is less of a hop bomb than other American barleywines like Sierra Nevada Bigfoot. But I learned brewmaster Greg Rapp isn't a fan of over-hopped beers, so that probably explains that. Not that this isn't a hoppy or bitter beer.

Slick body.

Overall a good, extreme beer. It was a tough decision picking out a growler since Rapp Brewing offers 20 beers.

A - One finger of white foam on a clear, copper colored body. Good retention and lace.

S - Caramel, bready malt, and some mustardy-pine hops.

T - Mustardy hops, bready malt, and moderate bitterness in the finish. Nicely balanced and drinkable does a beer of this strength.

M - Medium body, moderately low carbonation, and a balanced finish.

D - very nice, it is well balanced and oaky drinkable for what it is. Not as much emphasis on the hops as there might be, but the malt profile is well done.

Serving type: on-tap
