I always buy porters with reservation. Although they are a worthy style, sometimes they are not my favorite. My reservations continue when I went out on a limb buying a 22 oz bottle.

Well: I poured it into my favorite glass. What a beautiful very dark beer with a nice light tan head. Lace, lace and more lace is there.

The nose is not strong but very pleasant. A little sweet and caramel.

The taste is the closer on this deal. Very balance. Caramel, malt, sweet with a hint of coffee thrown in. The key here is the balance; just the right bitterness. So easy to drink. Not strong. Not watery. This is a truly great porter and a truly great beer. I can only say this of one other porter I have had.

A-dark brown color with a decent tan head and good lacing

S-chocolate, malt, molasses, hint of coffee, vanilla

T-dark roasted malts, chocolate, molasses, earthy, vanilla, decent bitter finish

F-medium body with moderate carbonation, smothers and creamy

O-a nice solid porter with good flavors and balance

Color is black, as it should be, with a very fluffy beige head. The aroma is an inviting mix of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. Sweet malt comes through first in the flavor, with plenty of coffee and chocolate. Dry, oak finish.

Smooth texture, phenomenal balance and flavor, and at only 5.6% ABV, it's not heavy handed. It's beautifully crafted brews like this that make me love porters so much!
