On tap at BRC in Houston, TX.

A: Pours a slightly hazy, but dull pale yellow/orange color. More pale than anything else. At first a two finger white head forms and recedes in a second. Light lace.
S: Snappy, spicy yeast. Very soft coriander, soft biscuit malt aromas. Everything is enjoyable, but very muted.
T: Follows the nose. Peppery, phenolic yeast is light and subtle. Coriander is soft as is the biscuity malts. Everything is just to mellow.
M/D: A medium body that is crisp and effervescent. A bit thin however. Not hard to drink at all. Though there is not much here to grab on to.

Not bad, but just inoffensive and to bland, I guess soft is the word, for me just too subtle. There are plenty of other great Wits around. Other Texas breweries at that. I am not going to discourage anyone from buying this, but not anything I am coming back to soon.

Appearance: Very hazy golden yellow, with vigorous, fine carbonation, and a large, dense, and persistent white head, which retains well. The lacing is thick and glass-coating.

Aroma: Bready wheat malt and coriander dominate the aroma. There is a mild note of orange rind as well.

Taste: Opens with sturdy notes of wheat, soon followed by a mild tart note. As the taste progresses, the coriander dominates. Late in the taste, there is a mild surge of bitterness. Finishes with a slight, lingering bitter note at the back of the mouth.

Mouth feel: Fairly full, with zesty carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: A very pleasant and drinkable example.

Presentation: Packaged in a short, custom eleven point one-ounce brown glass bottle with a pry-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

Naked Nun Batch 750ml #009 Bottled 4/11/2013:

Poured into a pint glass, color was a hazy orange with nice white head, smells of spice and citrus. Taste was the same with the wheat giving it body, very easy to drink and refreshing ale.. I could drink this everyday in the hot months to come, especially on the beach.

way over carbonated as it makes a loud pppsssttt, and starts to rise up the neck, then pours a huge 4+ finger head that takes up 2/3 of the glass but fades at a decent rate with spotty lacing, over a mostly clear watery lemonade color.

Nose starts like a saison farmhouse, grassy hay and farmhouse earthy funk like, light lemon and lemongrass, some wheat aromas, light bright slightly floral spices, a little citrus and hint nutty even, as well as light Belgian golden malts, citrus comes out more as it warms.

Taste starts with citrus and light orange peel, then quick spices like coriander and clove, floral chamomile and other flower spices. Then fluffy wheat and wit flavors, light golden malts, light lemon grass, hint grassy hay and earthy wheat, faint hint of farmhouse saison funk and just a touch yeasty. It also has interesting orange vanilla taste that I have no idea where from. Finish is quite dry, light citrus, orange vanilla, creamy wit and spices lingering, faint bitterness from the spices.

Mouth Is med to lighter bodied, over carbonated even for a wit.

Overall not bad, interesting flavor that combine wit beer with saison almost, most wit spices and wheat flavors with light saison earthy funk, little yeasty, and interesting orange vanilla flavor, but over carbonated too. Still tasty and interesting beer.

A – It looks like champagne…Yup…Solid clear/yellow/white head with a lot of carbonation flowing up from the bottom. Looks pretty good.

S – Wow, when this first came out of the bottle the smell hit me in the face and I literally hated it. Like I got angry about it for a second. But I just buried my nostrils deep into her undercarriage and she smells just lovely. Tart and floral, spicy and citric with lemon. Smells great! Cool. Neat-o!

T – Interesting. Dang…hang on….hmmmmild. Kind of mild. It’s like aggressively mild though, if you catch my meaning. It is tart and has orange and lemon, with some bread and a little banana as well. But the novelty is wearing off on me. I was getting giddy for a moment there, thinking I had stepped onto something grand. Not grand, just good. It also has some rather intense barnyard funk to it. If that was dialed back a touch this ale could be very interesting. Bold ass choices have been utilized here though, and I have to respect this brewery for that…Sweetens and much of the funk turns to a nice spiciness on the finish though. I gotta say, this is a real surprise, and damn interesting. Feels good.

M – The mouthfeel is light-medium with the pedal down on the carbonation and it really is consistent, good job there as well.

O – It’s good. Definitely worth a try. I wasn’t sure what I was in for, but I’ve definitely never had anything quite like this. It really is nice but it toes the line rather precariously between being not good at all and being wholly good. As they say though, fortune favors the bold...ALSO I'm editing my review just to say this, as it continues to warm, it has a very lovely bubblegum taste to it.

Appearance: Cloudy yellow color but with an amazing two-finger white head, but almost no lace. This is one of the cloudiest ales I've ever seen.

Smell: Spices were very noticeable, particularly the strong pepper notes of the coriander and the citrus (although it could have been orange, to me it was more like lemon).

Taste: The spices are definitely the show stealers here, leaving the malt and hops to hoof it gamely in the chorus. Under it all, though, is a very serviceably melody of a solid wit ale that was the perfect tune for a hot summer evening.

Mouthfeel: The carbonation was almost overpowering – a bit much, really, like it was tap-dancing on my tongue. The yeast definitely brought some bready qualities, but it wasn’t too bad.

Overall: I don’t love bitter wits, but this could be an exception. I may pick up another bottle and do some food pairing tests just to see if – as the label says – that it pairs well with certain types of foods.

a super clean straw yellow pour with 2 fingers of foamy white head. smells of bready yeast, lemon, orange peel, and coriander. tastes citrusy sweet with a bready bacbone and slight hoppy bitterness. light body with a slightly creamy feel, highly carbonated, crisp and refreshing. as far as witbiers go, this is excellent. the high carbonation makes this a MUST for summertime weather. i feel weird giving such a plain beer style such a high rating, but as far as the style goes, this takes the cake.

Pours a relatively clear yellow with a white head. Some wheat an bread, a somewhat citric and lemony. A little bit of banana and good coriander aroma. Flavor is citrusy and lightly tart. Orange and lemon, bread, and light banana. Not too much coriander, but a little bit on the finish. Lightly sweet in the back end. Very light body with high carbonation.

A: poured a very pale straw yellow in color with slight pale orange highlights and no head that left no lacing at all on the glass.

S: lots of herbs in the aroma with a little citrus, plenty of bretty funkiness, maybe. Slight pineapple in the background and hints of booze.

T: the funkiness is definitely there on the taste as well alongside herbs, slight citrus, belgian yeast character and hints of booze.

M: the brew was light in body with low amount of carbonation which had a sweet, yeasty, bretty funky and slight crisp finish.

O: I thought it was just ok and a little thin for the style.

11.1 oz beer in a Belgian 'Duvel-esque' bottle with a bottled on date of 03/02/12, batch 001. Pours hazy, dark gold color with a slightly pinkish hue. Small white head is as white as can be and shows some decent retention but not much lace.

Smell is...well...different, thats for sure. Not a whole lot of soft coriander and the orange peel is strong, a little pithy even. Has a subtle sweetness, but the spices are heavy on the aroma, a little mint even creeps in.

Taste is a little more integrated, but I am still not getting much of the coriander to help soften the sharp citric fruit peels...maybe orange, maybe a little lemon zest too? It plays along fairly well as a whole, but some of the parts have me wondering what the brewer was trying to accomplish. The mouthfeel is rather thin, and it has some sort of herbalness to it that tastes a little like sage or rosemary. It is an interesting take on the style and I enjoyed this bottle, but I dont think I will seek it out regularly. At 1.99 a bottle, it is well worth the gamble.

A- Hazy, brownish pear color with plenty of loose yeast in suspension and plenty at bottom of bottle and glass. Thin, quickly dissipating white head leaves no lacing.

S- A bit sour (my brother and co-taster agreed). Coriander and a light citrus.

T- Much more complex than smell indicates. Sweet with a hefeweizen type bubble gum flavor and aftertaste. Orange/citrus flavor is more prominent.

M- Light-bodied with dry afterfeel.

O- Had Scratchin' Hippo at a beerfest recently and actually poured it out. This is a much stronger effort. A bold wit that i recommend you seek out.

12oz stubby sent as an extra by ThirstyHerf. Batch 1, bottle 1129. Poured into a tulip.

A: Pours a hazy orange-gold with a nice tuft of white foam. Decent retention, no lacing.

S: Soft perfumy yeast, coriander, vanilla, pale malt.

T: Mild coriander, cakey malt, floral spice, a bit of citrus, big wheat in the finish.

M: Lively carbonation, light-bodied.

O: Not the best wit I've ever had - a bit weak. Still pretty nice.

Stubby Belgian brown bottle.

Appearance: Impressive bright white head holds a finger of tight foam on a hazy apricot colored glass that shows tiny carbonation trails when back lit.

Smell: Orange peel and coriander, classic wit elements on a slightly vegetal base. Belgian yeast esters.

Taste: Light body lets a little ribbon of vodka like alcohol through. Pretty well balanced, very light malt with a hop leaf waived over it. Lets the spices play their role in the limelight, and they are at a good level, full but not powerful. Yeast character shows as well.

Mouthfeel: Painful carbonation, prickly and sharp. Has a champagne feel in that the sips go to foam. Medium light body once I degass the glass with a lot of evil genius swirling.

Overall: A nice wit! The carbonation issue I had with the Hippo is here as well, which has me hoping for a bottling issue more than an infection issue. This is a little light, borderline watery, but some good flavor and no serious flaws.
I'd drink this again; worth a try!

A: Pours a hazy dark yellow with a nice white head that fades to a ring and leaves tiny spots of lacing.

S: The nose is incredibly good with large doses of lemon, orange, and other citrus aromas along with vanilla and belgian yeast esters as well.

T: The taste is nice as well starting with sweet esters followed by citrus and wheat flavors as well.

M: The feel is light and a touch drying on the finish.

O: This is one of the better Witbiers I've had to date and something I'm glad I can get locally. This will definitely make the hotter months of the summer somewhat tolerable.

11.1 oz bottle poured into an Adelbert's snifter. Batch 001, bottle number 118. Bottled 3-2-12.

The beer pours a hazy straw color with a large, fluffy white head. The aroma has quite a bit of coriander and wheat in it, with a little bit of orange peel thrown in. Smells about like I expected it to. The flavor is fairly heavy on the wheat, with a little bit of lemon and orange. There is also some lightly toasted malt and a little coriander. Thin to medium mouthfeel and a soft, medium carbonation. Easy to drink and quite enjoyable.
